Is it getting to the point where it's going to be too late for Sandin to fix his straight line speed/explosiveness?

He has to learn to play within his limits. Slower players than him are successful and so are smaller guys. Pinpoint outlet passing is more valuable than straight line speed. Is Keefe the coach to get the most out of him? He has a really good head IMO but he has to understand what he can get better at and what he should just not should be trying at the NHL level.

The club has been successful with players with monster talent but hasn't had a lot of success with developing the players who graduate from the AHL. I don't think the Leafs development created Hyman, he sort of created himself with an assist from Babs who let him percolate in the top 6 when he didn't look like he belonged there to a lot of us. Johnsson and Kapanen also broke out under Babcock, and and Brown too, although he also declined under him. I am not sure Keefe is a development coach but he doesn't have to be that guy, as long as they have someone who is reading the young guys. Maybe that's Malhotra as the players in Van seemed to have loved him.

I don't think Sandin is Rielly lite. I hope they don't have tunnel vision on that because he doesn't have the same tool box.

Engvall twice hit the post on PP.

I don't know coach, maybe you should have tried him last year. You know a player has a decent shot, can skate and has size front of the and around the net

Instead of keep playing Simmonds and Joe T

.

Look at Lily's outlet/breakout passes and his positioning. The guy is solid. Its a shame he isn't getting a chance to showcase his game. Leafs coaching staff should give Lily the same freedom they have afforded Sandin when it comes to mistakes and ice time. Lily's offensive game is solid too if he is given the chance to play that way
They're not even giving him the same freedom they've afforded Kral and Duzak, it's ridiculous

Not the biggest Engvall fan but boy does he have a shot.

Thats a terrible way to develop home grown talent not playing him because of "bonuses". He is a pending RFA after this season including Sandin anyway. So basically leafs are giving every opportunity for sandin to have a better "bidding leverage" than Lily; that should go down well when sandin hasn't outplayed lily at all
Agreed but unfortunately the way the leafs have allocated the cap this is what we get and it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better

Ho-Sang needs a contract and a spot in the top-9/PP2

I really think leafs gotta break up their PPs

1st PP unit
Willy (left wall) - Ritchie (screen)-JT (bumper)-Matthews(right wall)-Rielly

2nd PP unit
Spezza (left wall) - Bunting (screen) - Ho Sang/Kase bumper - Marner (right wall)-Muzzin

Sandin, Robertson all have NHL tools, just need more time in the over. Both will be very good someday if they can fix a few minor flaws.

I think they should do both to keep teams honest. Run 2 units but have the option and chemistry to load up in big moments, and play them the full 2 min.
