Great win,
Only negative is the leafs scoring the empty netter..if it had stayed 6-4 with Matthews last leaf player to score, I'd have gotten my a bunch of points in the prediction game..dammit.

I have said it before and I will continue to say. Draisaitl is far and away the least impressive superstar in the entire league. Like visually. You can't deny the production, but when he isn't putting up points....which is usually on the PP he is non existent and arguably a negative for the Oilers.

If Samsanov gets injured in game 6, who do you go with as your starter in a decisive game 7?

Don't have time to worry about hurt feelings, contracts, hurting Murray's trade value for the offseason, etc - unless he bounces back down the stretch, I would be going with Woll at this point. Murray has had 4 stinker games in a row + the injuries (which I now wonder if there are lingering issues from those affecting his game).

No no no I was told because he puts up the second most points so he is the best player. Counting his play in the neutral, defensive zone and 5 on 5 play is for dummies.

Marner turned the game around, Murray was terrible. Murray looks miserable behind his mask, the team doesnt believe in him from what I see. They play slightly harder for Samsonov. Hopefully politics dont play into who starts game 1 based on money earned. Its clear money is a main factor in throwing Reilly on the PP1 over and over again. Reilly is getting the puck and freezing, then with no deception passes the puck to the half wall, totally killing the PP. I can not recall Reilly ever outsmarting the high forwards and setting up any of the 4 all stars he plays with. Reilly cant even get a shot thru, has no concept of shooting just to mix things up etc. Reilly is the most over rated Leaf and is holding this team back with the role he is given.
I support you Reilly thoughts. He is not very good defensively and hus up ice ventures are dangerous for us because he is predictable and unsuccessful 90% of the time

The Leafs' comeback goals from their stars really show the difference between our stars and theirs (except maybe RNH). Active sticks in the o zone, neutral zone, and on the forecheck set up all 3 goals and completely swung the momentum.

Granted the Leafs had 2 PPG, but these primarily even strength goals are really the difference here and show how special the Leafs are. I bet Magic Mitch could also be a 120+ point player but he's much more interested in being the complete package.

Murray was also weak last night. For his own sake and the sake of the team I really want him to rebound, but I would not be confident at all going right back to him in the pipes

Sitting to the side waiting for McDavid to sauce it over is a sweet gig.

Agreed on Reilly not being the best on the PP. I hope he gets better. He seems to be scared of shooting or feigning the shot.

However, Murray made some good saves last night. He is in no way looking good, but I can't say he was terrible. The truth is that the first period, Leafs were just out of sync and let Oilers into the zone way too easy and were getting pushed around by Kane Eckholm and Nurse.

2nd period we woke up and Murray held us in there. Can't blame him on the PP goals.

I'm sure im not in the minority here

GLG!!!

17-4-2 against this fraud ass PP merchant team since 2016. :D

McDavid 67 games played, 127 points, 63 even strength points, 268 powerplay minutes played
Even strength goals for when on ice, 75, even strength goals against 66

Draisaitl 65 games played, 97 points, 47 even strength points, 261 powerplay minutes played
Even strength goals for when on ice, 71, even strength goals against 70

Oilers 31.6 PP perecent (1st overall)
231 powerplays

Nylander 65 games played, 53 ESP, 237 pp minutes played, EV GF when on ice 64, even strength goals against, 41
Marner 65 games played, 43 ESP, 237 pp minutes played, EV GF when on ice 59, even strength goals against 45
Matthews 52 games played 42 ESP, 213 pp minutes played, EV GF when on ice 69, even strength goals against 41

Leafs 25.8 PP percent (3rd overall)
198 powerplays

By both the eye test and the stats the Leafs are significantly better on both ends, like SIGNIFICANTLY. Edmonton is literally a PP team that has it's numbers inflated largely due to McDavid. Just flat out horrendous defensively, and 5 on 5 are pretty much on the same level as the rest of the leagues elite players. Even strength production is very similar, while the even strength defence has a significant difference. They get a shit ton of PP's and a shit ton of PP time and that is directly the cause of the huge point totals

It's so funny how mad Oiler fans get at Leaf fans when they lose to us...I don't recall as much salt and pants shitting anger towards Oiler fans when we lost to them last time.

Possibly the dumbest fanbase in the league (there right up there with the worst of our fanbase, just on the west coast so most people are asleep when they are dumbing it up), with even lower self awareness. It's a treat to watch.

Woke up feeling upbeat and refreshed despite losing an hour of sleep. Come back wins always make me feel great the next morning.

“McLeod, plus rookie defenceman and fellow mistake-maker Vincent Desharnais were requested by the media for post-game interviews. But the Oilers leadership group — the players, not management — quashed that request and sent out veterans Nugent-Hopkins and Kane instead to join Zach Hyman in describing this loss.”

Then Kane:
“He likes to dive and embellish,” said Kane. “You want to get that out of the game, but they prevent guys from the consequences of those actions.
“Fighting is a great deterrent for those type of players and actions. It just prevents guys from having to answer the bell like. He’s a perfect example of that.”

Kane described his loss to Bunting perfectly.

Murray needs to get more games in, his details /timing are off. Still want Samsonov to start game 1 in the playoffs but I’d feel better if Murray is on the bench with a few strong starts under his belt down the stretch.

Recall our vanilla bottom six. Now insert a spark plug like Acciari and a more dynamic Lafferty, suddenly we have changed our entire look. Thank god we didn’t actually think the Marlies call ups were the answer, you see now what can happen when you bring in true impact depth. I’ll take these guys over a maddening Engvall all day too. Great depth adds, and McCabe gives us a changed look back there too.

Acciari seven shots on goal, five hits last night.

100%, you should witness it live.

Tangential but related - the much maligned Alex Kerfoot.

He’s been bad and I was on the train but am now off, got 13-38-51 last year and is pacing for 9-24-33. Playing himself him down - small raise possibly, but if he could just keep production he might have got 5 from someone (Holland?). Jarnkrok is a big step up.

Love these new beauties toughening up a soft spot, and the biggest and best wasn’t even playing.
