Holl is better defensively but Timmins is miles ahead offensively. Hopefully with experience the work in his own end cleans up. He has potential to be a way better version of Holl if he does.
Holl, if he plays within his limited hockey skills, can be a 6th/7th man tweener in NHL .. but as soon as he thinks like Orr he is an AHLer all da way

I don't think that was the case.
People didn't mind bringing in Timmins, they just would have preferred another player than Douglas moved for him which is reasonable, IMO.

Good teams don't worry about that.
Have you seen Douglas's AHL stats since the trade? Not pretty.

Since the trade:

Timmins: 18GP - 12 points (NHL stats, plays defence)

Douglas 27GP - 8 points (AHL stats, plays forward)

I'd say it's looking like a good trade for Dubas. It also shows why trash organizations continue to be terrible year after year with player evaluation like this

Im ready to trade Holl now. We have his replacement and he is better and cheaper and younger and won't have brain farts next year.

I'm sure he'll make his share of mistakes having so little experience. The key is how quickly he learns from them and how the coaching staff supports his learning curve.
He does have some nice potential though.

There's a sizable contingent of Don Cherry wannabes here who think that just because Dubas was wrong on Mason Marchement that he's gonna be wrong on every single trade involving a big refrigerator on skates going forward.

Dubas has proven to be right on most of his trades, people who want him gone just wanna look at the ones he's been wrong on.

Interesting breakdown of the Leafs defense by Cam Charron yesterday. I think everyone knows that Timmins is fairly good offensively, but I was surprised to see that he's been the best Leafs' dman at limiting scoring chances off the rush and is also the best at retrieving pucks that have been dumped in. He should really be playing in every game, he has such a strong skillset and should only get better with experience

You have to take that with a grain of salt, the one time he was a top pairing , him and Rielly were a hot mess. Those stats are as a 5/6 dman. I still think Timmins was a steal but his deployment has been soft minutes and he's produced.

Timmins defensive side of the game can use some work, but that’ll come with experience. Really like the player and see a good future for him here in Toronto.

It also goes to show, size and reach does definitely help on the backend defensively.

Defensively, one thing routinely omitted, how quick the defender processes the right avenue and makes a quick out pass. Timmins senses the danger well, instead of curling back and creating more drama, it’s boom, up ice and away we go. Holl and Sandin get themselves in trouble a lot in this regard, Timmins I like what I see there.

Easy win.
There is a sizable contingent that feel Dubas wins every trade, never makes a wrong move, this is one he got right.
I like the ledger method, this is a win. Did the same with Lou, I find people here take sides and just confirm their bias everywhere. It’s the body of work, and it’s constantly being reaccessed. This trade was a slam dunk steal, fantastic move.

True enough and they tend to be the loudest. There is a huge group of us in the middle who try and look at things objectively.

Good game, but I think he looked a little rusty, and had to get up to speed.

But he looks like he thinks the game extremely well.

Like to see him after he gets a couple hundred games under his belt.

Okay, like to see what Sandin, Liljegren and Timmins will look like when they have a couple hundred games under their belts. I think all 3 might be on the "think the game well" list.

Let's compare,
Reilly appears to more offensively gifted as a skater, but, his production is actually far far less than Timmins
Reilly is weak defensively, so is Timmins
Reilly never plays tough, neither does Timmins
Reilly 8m, Timmins 1m

I’m not the biggest Holl fan but I wouldn’t trade. He’s fine as a number 6. Injuries will happen and we need depth. Need to keep him for the playoffs.

Timmins keeps impressing every game. Even if things fall apart still worth the risk at that low cap hit.

Agreed. This will be Holl's last season here, thankfully but it would be shortsighted to trade him now.
Let him walk in the summer.
