Too think that some Leafs fans didn't like this trade because Dubas traded away Curtis Douglas because he was big and tough.
I don't think that was the case.
People didn't mind bringing in Timmins, they just would have preferred another player than Douglas moved for him which is reasonable, IMO.

Next year
Can we get assets for holl and stop letting guys leave for nothing?

Then w complain we have no prospects
Good teams don't worry about that.

Holl takes up so much minutes on the PK, I don’t see how it makes much sense to move him plus this season our backend has struggled to stay healthy. I think you let him walk and sign a league minimum guy next year and push Timmins up in line up. Plus the boys absolutely love Holl. He seems to be a glue guy in the locker room so he has value to the team for a deep run.

Before the trade for Timmins was made and aside from Douglas being tough, he had 1 assist in 13 games this season with the Marlies. So, it's not like Dubas took a major risk in trading him and it being like the Mason Marchment for Dennis Malgin trade.

Great deal. I'd have been happy if he signed this for one year, as a "prove it" type contract. But having that 2nd year on it suggests he's happy to be here and want's to give himself the best opportunity to stick around with this team.
That could have worked against us if he develops to his potential.

We may very well have been looking at a higher resigning cost for a 2nd and subsequent years.

I absolutely love this trade. Turned a near zero asset on the outs into something that's more than a project. And this extension is a no lose situation as well. Timmins is a modest improvement in mobility from guaranteeing himself another decade in this league.

P.S. I remember saying something to the effect that most orgs blast a grunt into the center of the sun if all he does is shrug his huge shoulders at an opponent blasting his goalie. Well, he did end up in Arizona.

Seems like an easy Holl replacement. With better offence but some work needs to be done on bad turnovers the odd time.

Timmins is still really young too despite all the injuries.

This is a really good deal right now.

Hopefully the cap shoots up this off season. These deals will come in handy to round out the forwards.

Great for the team. Just don't expect miracles. He's only played 50 odd games in the show. Would love to see him develop the way I think he can, but it will take patience to see him get there.

Already shown he can be an effective third pairing d-man, though his defensive game needs refinement and development. But that's hard to complain about 59 games in.

Assuming he can be relatively healthy there's no reason he can be a good fit in the long term. Some nice upside.

For context Holl didn't become a third pairing regular until he was 28.

Yep, impossible not to like this move.
oh yeah? read the posts!!!! lots of ambivalent people lol. No real hate for it tho.
Look this whole trade garbage and get Timmins, show he is NHL calibre and with some seasoning 2nd paring, and now signing him for a notch above league minimum for 2 years STILL will not make the Dubas haters happy.
Kinda shows you that you can't please some fans.

Our D is not looking too bad for the next little bit.

I think some people forget how young our D are.

Rielly (28) - Liljegren (23)
Sandin (22) - Timmins (24)

Kral (23) - Niemela (20)
Mete (24) - Villeneuve (20)

Free agent signings and trades will likely help fill some holes, but having those players cost-controlled or on long contracts for a while is a nice start.

He is already a huge upgrade on Holl .. a massive upgrade .. and a great deal Dubie well done cheers .. but keep Holl for playoff run as we will need defenders if we make a run .. a 2nd round pick will make little difference

Holl is better defensively but Timmins is miles ahead offensively. Hopefully with experience the work in his own end cleans up. He has potential to be a way better version of Holl if he does.
