Agree on Halpern and Rupp... Addition by subtraction, both r awful. As far as I'm concerned, they can start fixing up a CT Whale jersey for Halpern.

If Ferriero plays a few more games like today, he's gonna steal someones roster spot. Keep im mind, Arnott is now going to also take one of the 23 roster spots. Guess Bickel or Gilroy will have to go down to Hartford.
 
Missed the game today, had to work late. Heard we had a great 3rd period, and obviously outshot them a lot, how were we overall? Good even before the 3rd?
 
Good game all around. This is the first game this year where I feel like I watched a New York Rangers game.

Boyle played a great game. I thought Ferriero fit in very well. Did exactly what I expected. First line obviously. I also thought McDonagh and Girardi looked good tonight. Staal and DZ too.
 
I don't know why,but Del Zotto has always been more proficient offensively at even strength than on the power play. Stralman is the exact opposite.
 
Also, enough with the ****ing ill-timed fighting. The best part about Brandon Prust was that he always had his finger on the pulse of the game and his fights were generally well-timed. In fact, he didn't pick all that many fights considering how many he got into.

Rupp and Asham just go out there and fight. It's annoying already.
 
Anisimov and Dubinsky (to much lesser extent, in my opinion) and Feds will be missed. How could their absence not be noticed? If it wasn't, there would be something really wrong, follow my logic?

That's where you get going on the new revision. Seriously, not all is quite right yet, but it will get better.
I would like to see stabilization of the 3rd and 4th lines, to allow guys like Hagelin to get some traction. Enough of the blender approach all through the lineup.

Dominated the whole game, it was really just a matter of time before they scored. Got to do something about the power play, if we are going to be contenders for the Cup (and the jury is still really out onthat) have to do much better. They overpass, take forever to get up ice, are way too predictable, can't win a faceoff. Anything else?

Yeah, I keep saying, the team needs to find their new identity. They're not the same team as last year per se.
 
Dubinsky makes way too much money for his production in a hard-cap league. Feds wears down as the season progesses, due to his age. Anisimov looks great one game, disappears the next, if he becomes more consistent, he can come back to the Rangers as a FA in two years.
 
We have a lot of players making a lot of money.

Nash 7.8
Gaborik 7.5
Lundqvist 6.875
Richards 6.66
Callahan 4.3
Staal 3.975


So for our top 5 skaters and goalie that is 37 million dollars of a 64 million dollar cap. We are going to continue to have inconsistency with depth so long as that is the case. The only solution is to mix good veteran signings with ELC kids.

But what i'm saying is we asked for this. Years on I've been reading that we have a team full of third liners, all depth and no world class talent. Over the last 4 years we picked up three separate franchise players from three different organizations and have them playing together. That's tough to do, and since we aren't a team that tanks, this is a unique circumstance with that sort of ability on our roster. Now that we have the talent, we'll have to deal with a bit of a ragtag outfit in the bottom six.

I'd much rather have an incompetent bottom 6 than an incompetent top 6.

The question is, are either of these scenarios the way to go to win a Cup? Too many third liners and you don't have the offensive horses to get you there. But the last two Cup winners have gotten there based on their forward depth. Neither the Bruins nor the Kings have overwhelming forward talent in their top-6, though their top-6s are certainly quality. But it's been the quality of play from their bottom-6s that have set them apart.

Right now, we're top heavy. Hopefully, over the course of the season, the situation with the bottom-6 works itself out on its own. We have the parts now. If they gel, we'll be in great shape.

I didn't think they dominated all night and I really didn't think they won this game as much as it was Toronto handing it over to them.

I don't see the same team that would kill teams like this last season with stifling defensive play and overwhelming forechecking. Maybe I'm being greedy, but I'm not impressed at all so far.
 
Watching the game on replay right now (for some reason my DVR didn't record the game. I lost my **** upon returning home from work but whatever). I absolutely love Stralman on the powerplay.
 
Yes, I know the team can look top heavy, but when you look at what is accomplished on the ice, it is clear that the on-paper bump in talent can mean squat.

I look at last season, with Fedorov, Anisimov and Dubinsky intact. I was never unaware of their value (again, I simply have to be clear that I already wished for Dubinsky to be traded, and am happy with that).

The team has to grow. The squeeze on this is the shortened season, and I believe that is a bad thing, at least an extenuating circumstance. Other than that, i am so happy to see Nash, Gaborik and Richards out there. I thing the other pieces will fall into place.
Getting rid of deadwood like Rupp would be useful.
 
Aside from penalty kill I do not think we lost much with Feds. He did very little all season, aside from being more or less an extra defender on the ice. Reached Betts/Sjostrom status.
 
Hagelin looked like his old self finally.

DZ made some more nasty outlet passes.

Nash continues to be the biggest threat on our team.

Ferriero didn't look out of place at all

Hank got a rest tonight.
 
I know it makes us one dimensional and easier for teams to shut down our scoring, but damn watching Gabby, Richards and Nash play on a line together is a hell of a lot of fun

We outshot them, we out hit them, we outscored them...im not sure i see what you saw....i cant think of any stretch of more than 2 minutes where we didnt completely own the play

even when we were down 0-2 i was very happy with what i was seeing.

complete and utter domination by the Rangers...I can't believe anyone would say otherwise.....except for Barry Melrose...:shakehead

Perhaps not a 60 minute domination...but for the most part we did outplay them. I do however, remain quite concerned about our inability to score on the power play or even win important face-offs.
