They can't score, though. Why is Liles crashing the net? Don't they have any forwards? ;)

D looks better, however. Kostka (?) looks like a keeper so far!

Yep. Definitely want to see Phaneuf-Gunnarsson, Kostka-Gardiner, and Liles-Franson defense pairings. Got last years top pairing that played oh so well, and this years Marlies top pairing which was also very very effective. Add in Liles and Franson in the back and you have alot of offense from the D.

To be fair, the Rangers defense has sucked so far - ours hasn't been that bad. But I do think a minimum of 3 GA is in the cards.
At this point in the season I will agree with you on us having the defensive advantage but we'll re-visit this one in about 20-25 games.
They just chased Henrik frigging Lundqvist they'll eat us alive lol.

Chances of winning are slim to none when the Pens are healthy and firing on all cylinders.

Leafs Lines: Lupul-Bozak-Kessel, JVR-Grabo-Kulemin, MacArthur-Kadri-Komarov, Brown-McClement-Orr-Steckel
I think that's a good little tweak in the lineup.

While putting all the underachievers on the same line, and limiting their icetime is one approach, I'm not sure it's the best alternative.

played so well did they? where did they finish again? what is it about last year that makes you think they played well together?

Underachieving doesnt mean unskilled.

Grabo hasnt even been that bad in terms of skating and effort. You figure he will break out

I figure that putting him with better and more motivated player(s) would be a better way of getting Grabo out of his offensive funk. I don't think that JVR will do much to motivate his new linemates. I'd rather see Kadri and Grabo on the same line with tons of minutes / PP opportunities.

January 23rd Pregame TOR vs PIT

Whenever Pittsburgh and Toronto face off it promises to be a high scoring affair. However, this year, with Toronto’s newly found dedication to defense, it may be a different story.

What are the lines? I thought Kadri would be moved to 2nd line. At least he gets more powerplay time. Also MacArthur has shown good chemistry with him last year.

What a revelation eh?

From Carlyle's presser: "we're looking to get Kadri more ice time"

I had to pinch myself after I heard that

I wouldn't mind seeing that. Put skill with skill, see what happens.

Yeah, I just hope Kadri can stay consistent. Can you imagine a break out season where he's almost ppg? I doubt that would happen but it would be a great story. (I predict around 30 points this season)

I want Kadri to get as much experience as a centre as he can. The more he's exposed to that position, the better he can get defensively and he MAY just MAYBE turn out to be that #1 centre we're missing.

Am i the only one who doesn't mind if the Leafs don't make the playoffs as long as they keep playing great defense and keep the games really close

Kadri should stay center. As a playmaker, he gets by far the most benefit out of the position. Grabo can use his speed to blow by defensemen along the boards. He should probably still take the faceoffs if it turns out that Kadri's still bad at it. I think the biggest problem with Grabo when he slumps is that he doesn't trust his linemates, and tries to do too much on his own. Giving him a better linemate may alleviate some of it.

That's how I see him. He's only been on the 1st pairing by default and certainly wouldn't be in any long term plan to be there.

I thought he's been pretty poor the 1st two games without Phanuef to lean on. I wonder if its any coincidence that Dion looks better?

Dion has the tendency to make his defensive partners look better. Not quite sure how he does it, but there's enough evidence to support the claim: Aulie, Gunnar, Kostka, etc. Maybe it's about being extremely vocal on the ice, so his partner knows exactly what's expected from him.

Yes? What's the point if there's no fruits for your labour? This isn't peewee hockey. Winning IS everything.
