Jumbo won't do as a winger on Matthews line full time. He will have some spurts, but I think long term it won't work. Hopefully Dubie is looking around for another forward.

He needs to be closer to the Spezza workload to stay fresh over the regular season and playoffs.

I don’t understand why Matthews is playing.
They must think he can’t do any more damage to his hand but he is contributing nothing offensively.
It also affects Marner cause he can’t get the puck as he usually does.

Im pretty concerned with matthews injury. Not taking any shots which is just weird.

Funny how our team looks off when he isnt playing well. Yeah he is our MVP. Thornton looks awful again today.
They've proven they can play well without him, it's not like we're fighting for 4th spot, his wrist should be sitting.

Not a good period.
Andersen was very strong.
Sometimes you have to give the other team some credit. Horvat was playing excellent hockey in that period.
Their ice may be as bad as ours.

Can someone tell me how you can slash a player's stick, break it, and not get 2 minutes for slashing?

Anybody concerned with the fact that Mitch looks like he's overthinking things and trying to do wayyyyy too much to make up for the fact that he can't just set Auston up for bombs?

That line has looked nothing like it once did.

The Canucks may be missing Pettersson but were technically missing matthews right now with him not healthy. Hes nowhere close to himself, the leafs should sit him and let him recover.

If Thornton Is going to play 16-17 minutes a game he shouldn’t play back to backs and should probably play 35-40 games in the season. Spezza plays 11 minutes so he isn’t as strained

Happens. Toronto dominated the Canucks the other night and the score went the other way. Hockey works like that sometimes.

Fair enough, just not used to seeing them playing like that this season..so far anyway..and I have some annoying collegues who are Canucks fans..could get irritating to hear it from them lol

Matthews is playing fine, carrying the puck and making defensive plays. He's not scoring though.

Marner has been awhole lot worse in terms of puck management and making plays. Same for Thornton.

Leafs dominated the first period. Canucks had a better 2nd. Seems pretty on par with the score.

Pretty even game.

xGF%:

Leafs: 1.44
Canucks: 1.44

We should expect more though.

Officiating was brutal with all the slashes Canucks are getting away with though and that interference on Matthews was a completely blown easy call.

I don't necessarily disagree with Matthews sitting if his wrist still is a problem as it seems, but you are definitely exaggerating the issue. Matthews has still made a bunch of strong offensive plays, tonight alone. Just not shooting like we know he can or much at all

Not sure what needs to be said, just make smart adjustments based on who is playing well.

Sit Matthews (still badly injured) and Thornton (advanced age).

Yep, I'd say that the 3rd line is going to start and that the top line will now be Tavares - Willy - Hyman. then I'd let the forwards know they aren't giving the d men options, so if the d can't make a pass theyll go glass and out so it'll be up to the forwards to make plays. Players who can't give an option or make a play will get some rest on the bench.

I don't know about the Wilson hit. Looks like he was initially aiming for the body and moved his target while avoiding the elbow. Deserves a couple games, but not 5+

Jumbo won't do as a winger on Matthews line full time. He will have some spurts because his natural talent is still there, but I think long term it won't work. Hopefully Dubie is looking around for another forward.
Yep, definitely needs strong load management a la Leonard. Issue is though, who do you put up there instead? Personally would love to see Robertson get a shot that role next season but right now is slim pickings since HEMi line is fire
