Genuinely dont think Wilson will be available.

Our chances of getting a top 6 Power Forward might literally be Bertuzzi in Free Agency
We have one if coached properly. Knies has all the tools of a great power forward. Fix coaching and you fix that problem in part.

I hear ya. What really gets me is watching how good some of the other teams are with no 11 million dollar stars and then listening to the narrative from some the we could never trade any of them because we would automatically lose that trade.
Who cares if we lose that trade on paper if we get a more committed core and the team gets better

They haven't won anything with these guys, so why not finally try something different, instead of burning off more years of contention with the prime of this core?

The most common refrain I hear is something along the lines of "at least they are making the playoffs, they aren't dead last anymore".

That's a low bar to set if you ask me.

Yup. I would trade any of them for a decent return

I think if we need more than Wilson to get over that ref thing. Bc if we have a few players to play like Wilson, league and refs won’t make all the calls.

This.

I don't believe in the league-wide conspiracy.

I think it got more to do with our team playing soft, if you insert a player that likes to play on the edge, he'll look whistle worthy in comparison. No need for a conspiracy.

In conclusion, we need a couple of players with an attitude.

I mean if we’re not going to win might as well have fun destroying other teams physically. That said, no to Wilson. He seems like he’s not going to hold up and he’s cost too much to pry from Washington

that's the problem with that ilk of player, they shorten their own careers by playing that way, very short shelf life..........

When Tom Wilson singlehandedly destroyed the Rangers, New York's response was to fire management and make themselves a lot harder to play against.

The result: The Rangers made the conference finals the very next year after missing the playoffs altogether the previous season.

The Leafs get humiliated and emasculated every year. Their playoffs performances have been characteristically heartless, gutless, and pathetic. The teams response has been to give everyone high fives for a job well done and bring the whole gang back again next year.

The result: they continue to go out early in the playoffs every year.

This team needs to undergo an entire body transformation.

Like the Atlas ads in the back of the old comics. Where the skinny guy gets sand kicked in his face. Mr. Muscles takes his girlfriend away while skinny guy runs home crying.

Well when that skinny guy got home, he pumped iron, got jacked, went back to the beach, and punched Mr. Muscles in his stupid ugly face and took his woman back.

That's what the Leafs need to do.

Unless drastic adjustments are made to this teams attitude they are just going to disappoint again. They'll be going home without the prize. When they get there their wives and girlfriends will be making out with one of the guys from the winning team.

Pack your cases and don't come back until you win something.

Loser.

That's what this franchise needs to do too. Ship out a couple these pampered millionaires. Get some real men who want to win.

Not just guys trying to extract every last dollar they can from the team.

It's not that the refs are necessarily specifically punitive towards us, it's that they always look to equalize the penalty calls. So if you have a clean, soft team vs a dirty physical team (like the Panthers), you'll still end up with the penalties relatively even.

So if Wilson is going to the box a lot, then our opponent will be going to the box more as well, which would bode well for us given our quality special teams.

Suspensions though...yeah, while Parros is in charge there's no avoiding that.

This is exactly the problem the Leafs have.

They play too clean, but they’ll always get the same amount of penalties. So muck it up and there’s no change, but you’re not going to get bullied anymore and maybe …. Maybe … you’ll start bullying another teams.

They have the talent to win, they need something else. Enough of this early 2000’s senators team building

I’d offer Nylander for Wilson. He’s pretty much exactly the type of player the soft leafs need in their top 6. I bet Nylander wants 9m too so he’d give them cap savings.

You would get 1 year of a small cap saving and then would have to re-sign 30 year old Wilson to his retirement contract. He is older and slower so closer to falling off the cliff before the end of his deal. I figure he would cost 2-2.5M less than Willie on their next deal and will be a Lucic type plug within 3 years.

Also Keefe hockey is for jackrabbits and that isn't him. A few big guys like Zach Kassian had the foot speed but none of them seem to show it after 30. You need to find this sort of player in their 20s more than any other type.

I mean every team that seems to get further usually has a talented dirt bag so I wouldn't be against it.

Like mentioned above in the thread... if he's on the Leafs ... one wrong move and the refs would just screw us.
That’s when the fans cover the ice with garbage and they do that a few times and bettman and the referees will back down the team and the fans are to complacent they need to pull a old habs trick and it worked well for them look at times they got away with some of their penalties

Some good posts just above mine.

We need the next “Tom Wilson”. Not the the old one. Better yet - draft a couple of them.

We need less pure skill, more desire and functional toughness.

Not that easy to find those guys in the draft. Burke was always trying to do this - remember him drafting Ross and Biggs early in consecutive drafts?

Reaves is a terrible hockey player though. The key is finding guys who can play, such as Simmonds until he dropped off. Rare commodities these days. Jack McBain would be a bottom six that I’d go after for some physicality.
