This thread reminds me of how lucky we were to have Wendel Clark. A unique player with goal scoring skills who could hit/fight.
This is it. It’s not just a guy who can hit but one who’ll hold others accountable and have them looking over there shoulders.

yeah maybe Wilson will be too costly or NA so you need the next best thing plus as mentioned Schenn & a couple others as supporting cast. Not guys like ZAR or Lafferty either.

should’ve gone after Perry a couple years ago. Would’ve been a nice complimentary 4th liner On the cheap.

Great replies….

Attempting to bolt on XYZ aspect of what this team is missing hasn't worked. It didn't work with adding leadership, it didn't work with adding physicality in the bottom six, we're not going to become hard to play against even if we add the biggest psycho in the league. Our softness is an identity problem, not a personnel problem. We ran a bottom six and blueline absolutely chock full of hitters and bruisers, and it didn't mean squat because the core are what drive the team and they're not killers.

Add Wilson and subtract Marner, and now we're starting to cook a team that's nasty. We also desperately need the Muzzin replacement #2D who can handle big minutes and is an imposing physical presence. We need a little bit of the ol' Burke era testosterone, pugnacity, and truculence, and it needs to come from the core. Wilson works in Washington because it's Ovi's team and Ovi was an absolute wrecking ball in his heyday.
I dont think we’re moving any of Marner, AM or JT. So what do you do? You add that psycho and every other player on your team grows a couple inches, especially if they’re on your line. Plus as mentioned you add some complimentary players.

That may change with Treliving in the big chair.

He's exceptionally close to The BettMan and Daly, he did them a solid by babysitting the Coyotes while they were scrambling around trying to find investors, he also helped getting the yotes TV contract together.

In the business of favours', big Brad has a deck full of them to call in, but that said the bookies really matter to the league, which sometimes can shade the odd outcome.
Very cool post

Leafs will start the 2023 season with a bigger D...Book it

The trick is to draft and develop a Tom Wilson. I think they tried that with Tyler Biggs and it failed so miserably that they never tried ever again.

Agreed that the way to do it is to draft.

Biggs was a Burke era pick though, most of his scouts got canned by Shanny IIRC. Hunter picked a few knuckle draggers that never panned out and Dubas focused on skill above all else. Knies probably his "toughest with skill" pick I guess.

Marner for Brady Tkachuk is my fantasy move, but there is no way Ottawa would go for that. Just further goes to show what a bad contract Marner was.

Crouse and Auston Watson are two physical wingers is like to pursue. I also like Max Domi. Hopefully Knies can be a top 6 power forward for us.

Bottom line is that we need to add physicality to the top 6, there's no question.

Wilson, Crouse, Marcus Foligno, and Schenn. That would be my wish list.

Kadri...

Hope you enjoyed Alex Kerfoot all the while.

Exactly. Kadri was the ideal fit.

Another HORRIBLE mistake by Dubas.

They had a Wilson-lite with more scoring punch in Marchment...but he was traded for skill that couldn't skill in Malgin.

Yes, having Marchment and Kadri is what you need to advance in the playoffs and win championships.

Seriously, WTF was Dubas thinking about five years?

Crouse is the guy I want. Crouse, Bertuzzi, and Provorov.
Agree 100% about Lawson Crouse being an ideal fit in Toronto - - tough, aggressive, willing to fight, can score a few goals and great leadership in the room.

I’d ship Matthews home to Arizona for Crouse, Keller and Barrett Hayton.

I want no parts of Hayton. Let the Yotes include their choice of Cooley / Guenther and I'd take that deal in a second. Matthews to ARI for Keller, Crouse and Cooley or Guenther.

I can’t imagine Arizona being willing to deal either of those two along with Keller and Crouse.

I’ve liked Hayton’s game since watching him in junior. He’s had a slow start to his career, but he did put up 35pts in the final 47 games last year. He’d be an ideal 3rd line C for Toronto because of his defensive ability and face off skill.

Leafs need the next tom wilson, not the one who will be on the wrong side of 30 when his new, expensive contract begins.

I’ve posted this before. Go after emerging guys, with lesser names, or reclamation projects.

I’ve suggested Jack McBain as a target.

I think you go after Comtois after Ducks don’t tender him. No, he’s not in the same category as some of the others, but he’s still a big boy who can throw his weight around and showed offensive prowess before ending up in the dog house.

Bertuzzi and Gudas could be interesting UFA additions.

Wilson, Domi… pass. Wilson too old and Domi really isn’t physical, but he is a dirt bag.

Depending on the coin, I'd be quite interested in Bertuzzi, Domi, and Gudas. That's a lot of added jam with guys who take regular shifts and play good minutes. Bertuzzi and Domi loved getting dirty and tend to score big goals.

Why is Arizona doing this again? Is Keller Older? More Expensive?

Yeah if I’m Arizona I say if Matthews wants to come home he can take the Tavares route, Keller, Crouse, and Hayton (whoever else) stay.

Four players I'd like the Leafs to look into this offseason -- Scheifele, Konecny, Provorov, and Crouse.
