Well Jarnkrok is a damn good signing.

Now if you can move Kerfoot and Holl that would give you 6.2 million in cap space because they have about 750K now according to cap friendly.

El Nino has been out there a while you might be able to get him around 3

sign Sandin for 1.4 same as Lilly

Sign Engvall for 1.5

that takes about 5.8million leaving you with about 400K to start the season and that's before guys like Clifford or Simmonds are sent down. which they would be

Does this mean we need to free up more money by moving Holl/Kerfoot or do we have enough to sign Engvall and Sandin?

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Robertson/Knies - Tavares - Rodrigues
Kerfoot - Engvall - Nylander
Sheahan - Kampf- Abe-Kubel
Clifford - Gaudette - Simmonds

Rielly - Brodie
Giordano - Liljegren
Sandin - Holl
Benn - Mete

Trade Muzzin and use the cap space for Rodrigues and Sheahan
And by Rodrigues I meant Jarnkrok obviously

People panic in this thread because they felt we were looking worse how you guys feeling now? because I got to tell you I didn't see it before this Now?

I don't see it even more now Jarnkork weather you see him as a replacement for Kase or a replacement for Mikyehev he'd going to more than fill the void left by either of those guys.

The Leafs have a strong top 9 and it just got better today

Assuming they have 21 skaters, (as they usually do) with Jordie Benn as the extra, they'll have about 3.5-3.6ish to sign both. Should be able to do that comfortably.

Edit: This is assuming they move Holl

I still think they are in trouble just based on the high risk goaltending move

Trade Holl and sign Subban to a Spezza hometown special and we have "decent" depth on the right side with Brodie, Liljegren, and Benn.

It's still not better then last year. Odds are Kerfoot is traded so adding Jarnkrok is a wash.

Yes but you don't know what he's traded for or who replaces him.

What if he and Holl are traded but Niederreiter is brought in? and yes if you got rid of kerfoot and Holl you Could do and probably have a little bit of money left over even after signing and Engvall because cobined they probably don't hit 3 million.

Or what if it's Sonny Milano?

What happened to Ho-Sang? I thought he was suppposed to be the steal of the century, spending a month or two with the Marlies before coming up and dominating the league.

I don't recall hearing anything about him after about November.
He was never that, but I think there were high hopes for him to earn an NHL contract. However, it didn't work out that way. He won't even stay for year two of his NHL deal. Bobby McMann and Curtis Douglas earned contracts with the Leafs. Wether either will make the team remains to be seen.

He and his teammates were happy for Soup hitting the jackpot.
Yeah, and rightly so. Campbell also came back for the Marner Assist charity.

I still don’t think we are as good as last year as we sit here today.

Let’s see what that analytical “top 4” Holl gets us, or maybe that’s why we haven’t moved him yet, the price is so low out there for his services?

People said that 2 years ago. They were better this year

Everyone was dumping on kase and bunting

We're not trading Kerfoot. We have 3m+ in cap space when we cut Gaudette Anderson and Simmonds.

Agreed

It appears the Leafs strategy this year at least at present is to dress nightly 7 NHL forwards making $1.5 mil or less down to $750k among their 12 starters with 3 X $11 mil + WN @ $7 and Kerfoot @$3.5.

That is Bunting, Kampf, Engvall and Aube-Kubel the only semi certain of those 7 the other 3 is anybody's best guess at this point.

That is best case scenario at 100% full health.

Using unknown LTIR money at TD time at expense of continuing to empty the draft pick cupboard is uncertain and unwise.

The only late season help I can see coming that we hope can make a difference is Matt Knies after his college year ends.
Along this line of thinking, many are assuming that Kerfoot is most likely to go to make room for Engvall and Sandin - with Jarn being a similar player.

That would make our newest acquisition our 5th highest paid forward at a measly 2.1M.

We could move a Brodie/Muzzin instead to open up the cap, but that would mean more borrowing from D to pay for F, pushing our D budget to less then 20M to support our newest question marks in net to keep the pucks out.

Bad business.

I see us finishing up with something like this:

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Crouse - Nylander - Tavares
Engvall - Jarnkrok - Robertson
Steeves - Kampf - Aube Kubel
Beagle

Reilly - Brodie
Giordano - Lilijgren
Sandin - Ryan Murry
Benn

Ideally would have enough space for another Dman

We'll have to see how things stand come opening night. I think having for example Girordano opening night ahead of Dermott is a + same with Lily ahead of Holl.

With forwards it gets a bit more murky - but will have to wait and see whose on the roster. And also unclear how well any Marlies grads will do ect

For sure things will change between now and opening night. Then, we'll change another 3-5 players between opening night, and the start of the playoffs.

This was our roster opening night last year.... Just to remind people..

Edit; You know the funny thing, we could have 11 players from this roster, gone before the start of next season, at least nine anyway. That's some pretty substantial roster turnover.

so the top 9 as it stands today is as follows.

Bunting Matthews Marner

Kerfoot Tavares Nylander

Engvall Kampf Jarnkrok

Now I expect Kerfoot to be traded and honestly I wouldn't mind trading Engvall because I don't think Engvall can repeat what he did last year and I also think Robertson can take Engvall's spot.

But as it stands that is the top 9 and that's a pretty good top 9 particularly on RW and at center there might be a little bit of a weakness at LW but when you have a RW and center position as strong as the Leafs do you can get through having a little weaker LW position.

on D you have

Rielly
Brodie
Muzzin
Holl
Gio
Lilly
Sandin
Benn
Mete

that is 9 guys that can all play NHL games, I don't think Holl will be here I think there is another trade coming and I wouldn't be surprised if he's in it.

that being said even if Holl is gone, and he should be because he objectively hurts this team that is still 8 games that can play NHL minutes that; is pretty good.

then there is goaltending and that is where the question is. that's where I don't know but I don the potential in a Samsonov/Murray tandem they just need to stay healthy hopefully the medical staff do their job and keep the goaltending tandem healthy.

but even with all the goaltending questions I can't see the goalie tandem being any worse then it was last year after November it was complete dog shit and they still won 54 games.

this is a really good team,I don't see it being significantly worse like others do.

Holl and Kerfoot out.
Dylan Strome in.
Hopefully enough cash left to sign Sandin and Engval.
