Made supper today.

Hurtski, thanks to you, made a stir fry

Nice! I can barely taste anything and I have a bunch of stuff going on for work and in life and I'm sick right now and got lured to a buffet with some friends for lunch. Bad combination.

Montreal is over-rated. I wouldn't want to live there unless you speak good French. That's my two cents :P

Gonna rant about my math now. Feel free to scroll along if you don't care. You've been warned. I'll keep it short.

Essetially, we were told our mid-term marks today, the marks uni's will use to judge us off. The 2 other classes are 88 and 91, but I knew math would be bad, I'm thinking 67-72 range. Well today I got my mark to be a 64. So after class I went to my teacher and asked how my marks broke down, wondering where I was struggling so much. (these totals are out of 70, later adjusted to equal 100 as the extra 30 is final exam mark) My tests (worth 42%) averaged to a 65, this was not a surprise. We had one assignment (worth 8%) I got an 83. We also do a daily quiz. Essentially if the previous day we had a lesson on new content, we would have a 5 or 6 mark quiz testing us on this new content. The total of these quizzes is worth 20% percent of our mark. I knew I was averaging about a 75% in this area. So I got to my teacher, he tells me my test and assignment marks, and then says I'm at around a 50% on the quizzes. 45/91 total marks or something like that. He then explains that when I was on vacation to Holland, I missed 5 quizzes. He let one go, but the other 4 I got a zero for being absent.

At the start of the year he told us we get one "freebie", and if we aren't in class it will be a zero. However I gave him 3 weeks notice of my absence, and he was well aware of this. I did not have an opportunity to make up these quizzes, I wasn't even told they would count against me. I have made up all the work I was told I missed.

So now I am applying to uni with a 64% in 4U Functions..any ideas LL? I don't think talking to my teacher would get anywhere, so I'm not sure what steps I can take to ensure that these quizzes don't count against me. This effects my mark by 3 percent of so I'm guessing.

edit: I didn't keep it short.

edit 2: Based on my math, with a75% in quizzes my mark would be a69%

I want to live in Montreal lol. Would love to be in a strange place with a new language. And my french would improve more in a couple weeks in Montreal than it has in 7 years of french class.

Explain the situation to the teacher about applying for university (they want you to succeed just as much as you do). (I'm having trouble putting my thoughts to words so if this doesn't make sense, ask for me to clarify) The quizzes you missed were for a unit, try to get the test mark you got for that unit be the same mark on the quizzes you missed. It sounds like you do better on the quizzes than the tests? So it's reasonable to assume that this isn't inflating your mark, just making it closer to what it would be if you didn't go visit family. I assume you don't visit them that often? Maybe emphasize that.

Well I missed all the content from the unit, and teacher wasn't much help when I went for extra help, he was essentially saying it's my fault for going away. So I only got a 57 on this unit test. I'm willing to write the quizzes, or just have them wiped off. And yes I do do better on quizzes.

You went away for a wedding in the family wasn't it? How often do you go there and see those people? I would try to get that 57% on each of the quizzes, it's a reasonable request because it's not like you were skipping class for the sake of skipping. Not a 75% but it's better than nothing.

Daily quizzes seem kinda ridiculous to me, imo. The teacher is basically expecting you to only miss one day of school that entire semester which is very unrealistic.

I don't know, maybe go talk to your guidance counsellor or principal and get them to try and talk to the teacher or pull strings for you.

Brody what do you want to study in university?

I didn't do great in grade 12 math either- I murdered the exam so I ended up with like an 80 or so (which obviously isn't terrible). If your teacher is bad then use online as a resource (I have to do this for everything in university). There are tutorials for absolutely everything.

Learning to teach yourself is the best thing you can do to prep for uni. All high school did was show me that I could put in 30% effort and get amazing grades. Made me the laziest ****er ever, and thus I got totally rocked in first year.

And second

Third

And forth

GOing on 5. LOL

That's a good idea as well, but I would use that as a backup plan. I would try to work it out with the teacher first.

I want to do business I guess, but I don't even know what. I really wanted to go to Western, didn't get accepted so just got a job and have been waiting. My avg was like an 84, apparently they wanted 85+, I don't even know. I'm probably going to apply to different universities either this coming year, or the one after. The work experience has really helped me a lot though, because during high school I never had a job. Oh, and the unis I'm probably going to apply to will again include Western, but I'm not going to get my hopes up again, so like Ryerson, York, Waterloo, etc.

I'm done hs

Is there a baseball site that lists put outs, assists, errors and that stuff for each player as they happen? They are counted for points in my fantasy league but they don't get updated right away (league is on espn). I'm curious to see if I've caught up to my opponent, but don't know yet since that stuff seems to get updated at like 3am.

That site is way over my head right now

But I found what I wanted, thanks :)

Yup, remember this next time you're typing something mean about me, like what you posted above.

You got awfully close to hurting my feelings.

Lol. Daily quizzes? Why would a teacher want to put himself through more work by marking. Unless of course you switch your quiz with another random student and they mark it. Then, it seems like a good idea. He will be taking 10-15 minutes out of his teaching time. Could browse HFBoards in that time frame, or update the fantasy team before the night's activities.

Grant, check out Fangraphs. Best statistical site for baseball. Don't worry about the advanced stats (unless you are interested in learning), as it won't be applicable to fantasy baseball. Go to leaderboards and check out pitching/batting. Or go to each team respectively. When you search up an individual player, they will have the game-updates if he is playing. I am not too sure how quickly it tracks though. I know in the Yahoo Fantasy Baseball, it comes with this feature.

Also, I am pretty much screwed for this upcoming exam tomorrow. And the Prof. gave us the questions ahead of time! Instead of studying, I have been trying to do the math based on what questions he will pick out of the options he gave us. I've been stuck.
