In the building tonight. Great game. Honestly I love this team. We're like two shitty bounces going our way from this city starting to love this team.

Haven't heard partisan venom like that from the (tiny as hell) crowd in a long time - a dozen whistles after the disallowed goal and there was still justified outrage being expressed.

Adams might not be a great GM, but he's way better than I expected. He's added these "western" players that we lacked forever. Greenway is a humble keystone. Byram and McLeod are thoroughbreds. Benson has "it" - he's one of one. This is way more of a team than our past collected rosters.

Had the "stinger on weck," so a chicken finger on a roast beef sandwich. What a time to be alive.

He just didn't add a top 4 RD and top 6 F. So his good additions don't absolve him of the blame for not improving the lineup at other positions. Good for McLeod and Zucker, but not for the rest.

They need to improve the team still . So Adams need to go for it

I thought the first period was really good. Things got kind of sloppy after that. If this was Levi’s audition to stay up with the big club I think he failed. Probably time to send him down to the Amerks for some more seasoning (whenever UPL is ready to go).
Like most everyone else, I think Levi needs time in Rochester once UPL is healthy, but he played a decent game tonight. I just don’t want him handling the puck.

What did the first and second lines look like?

McLeod looked like McDavid in the highlights.

Peterka-Cozens-Quinn
Benson-McLeod-Tuch

Benson and Peterka also flipped around for a few shifts at times. Benson had himself a game - scored one just as a PP ended, setting part of the screen on McLeod's goal, being in front on Cozens disallowed goal (the reason for it being disallowed), and a couple other dangerous looks.

Also, that may have been the weakest game out of Greenway and Zucker all year. Considering they've been shouldering more than their share going into the game, an off night was inevitable. Hope it doesn't last for either.

Unfortunately I think we’re going to have to deal with it all season in order to make the playoffs. But if we do, I think we soar from there.
The team needs to get good before the zebras will give them any benefit of the doubt. You see the shit Tampa got away with when they were contending, and now Florida.

I skipped the third. Was too tired, and thought they were going to fold. Glad to see them win. Did they play a gritty third period?

Power with 23:00 minutes, Dahlin with 27:31 and Byram with 27:35. Byram had 10:47 in the third period alone, Dahlin 10:33 in the third and then the entire OT PP.

This reminds me a bit of the Big Three in Montreal.
Now if they could stop mindlessly wandering behind the net, that'd be great! I <3 Dahlin, but he goes for a stroll behind the net leaving the front wide open far too often for my likings. Is Byram the best defensively of the three? I haven't been keeping a keen eye on them, but I rarely notice Byram making dumb plays. Of course, I've only watched about 1/3 of the season thus far.

Personally, I think I saw Binnington falling over on the OT goal and it should've been reviewed. Since it was Buffalo's arena, there's a very real possibility that a breeze originating from the Buffalo area interfered with Binnington's ability to play his position.

Frankly I'm shocked they bothered to call the goalie interference on St Louis when the guy barreled into Levi. Levi clearly interfered with that mans ability to play his position. As compensation I hear the referee's briefly discussed just giving St Louis the win, but ultimately decided that'd make it too obvious.

Seriously f*** those refs and the war room.

Very gritty IMO. I honestly feel bad for Cozens getting that goal disallowed. That was a monumental effort from him, the likes of which we haven't seen since his very early time here perhaps. If he can learn to play like that more often, he can be a force.

That said, hopefully it gives that line some confidence to play like that and results will come. Glad the team found a way to get that disallowed goal back. Huge for them.

Have to wonder if the downgrade from Mcleod to Krebs played a role?

Byram is the worst of the three so far, Dahlin is the best, despite the mistakes. Byram had a lot of not good defensive plays, but he's a offensive D.

HDCF/HDCA:

Dahlin +16
Power - 11
Byram -15

Thanks! I usually watch after taking an edible, so my hockey analysis has gone down the drain the past few years, haha.

Our top 4 is skewed towards attack, this has its advantages, but we clearly lack balance and at least one good defensive top 4 RD.

Agreed. I also think the case for me thinking Dahlin was worse defensively is he'll be dominant for 98% of the game, then just have a mind lapse that can lead to some chances against. I'm probably hyper focusing on those mind lapses because he's one of our best players.

From the games I've seen, plus highlights, they all have mind lapses, but mistakes are inevitable, I've seen the same thing with other teams. But this is another minus of our unbalanced defense, they sometimes perform tasks that are not quite typical for them.

I missed the game but read through this thread and looked over game analytics.

Benson really sparking us, kid has it. Stud. Especially with Tage out.

With Gilbert playing only 11 mins and no SH time does Joki draw back in soon knowing that either him or Clifton has to play on off side? or maybe even Ryan Johnson on this next west coast trip(if they send Levi down)? I'm leaning toward Johnson.

Nearly 40 yr old Suter played over 33 mins last night. Wild.

I turned this game off. Last year, if they fell behind or didn't score the first goal, it was a certain loss. At least this year it seems like Ruff may be pushing the right buttons and have them on the right track.

Still saw lots of things I didn't like about how they were playing. The way STL would engage and battle forwards around their net, tying them up and battling, was completely missing last night in front of Levi. Can this be taught to guys like Power, Bryson, and Byrom? I don't know. It's funny that Dahlin came through. Defensively, I just didn't like what he was doing and thought he was having a bad night.

Going to take me a while to get over that loser PTSD.
