I really don’t get why Canadian, Swedish, Russian and US players have slow start in an Olympic year, don’t they want to be on the team? The fact that Stamkos got like 7 pts already showed he wants to be on the team bc he knows he is not a lock

Maybe it's time to go something like

Bunting Matthews Spezza
Engvall Kerfoot Nylander
Ritchie Tavares Kase
Simmonds Kampf Marner

Give each of "the big 4" a line of there own to drive. Mitch being demoted to the 4th line worked back in his rookie year, maybe he needs it again.
Engvall and Kerfoot are turn over machines. Need to get rid of both of them. Kerfoot is overpaid by 3.5 million.

I am not in the dressing room or the Leafs org. But I am assuming they have a number of people that are saying it isn't wise to have a goalie go back to back. I am guessing Keefe isn't purposely screwing over the team by putting an inferior goalie in the net.

Goalies playing back to back nowadays are VERY rare, and Campbell has never been a full time starter, and has a history of injury's when playing too much.

I am guessing the Leafs org. has a little more information then we do on the forums.

In a vacuum obviously start the better goalie, I just think they MIGHT have a little more information then we do.

They may have more info available...

Doesn't mean they have a clue how to use it.

Yea wouldn't it be awesome to start the starter 82 games of the year.
Did I say that? Campbell was rested. He had 3 days off. "A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush".

Ok I get it. You didnt want the Leafs to get 2 points.

You outlined the scenario pretty well, but I don't think you need a room full of geniuses to make a 50/50 call. Start your starter at home on the first of the back to back on plenty of rest? Or give the game to the worse guy assuming your team comes out with a normal effort? Now they go into Pittsburgh with a tired and demoralized team and the better goalie.

Need them to invent some new advanced stats to explain why the current advanced stats likes our offence so much.

My eye test is not impressed. It's not good hockey . Good possession yes but overall not good hockey.

I don't disagree, but Toronto just played a team on a back to back, and couldn't capitalize.

Can't help but wonder if management s hesitancy to resign Morgan is to see if Sandin can do a similar job for 4 million less....

You're definitely right and I think there's also some typical "galaxy braining" by committee going on.

Like we'll test run Sandin in the eventuality Morgan Rielly leaves, but this kind of utilization of Rielly will also become a wedge that drives him out the door. But if Sandin is up to the task, I guess it's just the way the business works...

It's easier to get rid of management than turn over the roster

Although I'm open to that to right now to
Sure, blame the management. I dont love Dubas by any means but I dont blame him for "investing" on these players. Maybe its time to look at the selfishness of players like Marner. I know Marner gets his fair bit of hate from Leafs fans, but if you and your daddy are going to demand elite salary then show up. He hasn't.

Yea fair enough. I have my opinions, I would like to think that a multi-billion dollar organization has a bit more of a clue then us fans on the internet.

Wouldn't it be wild to run an organization with a bunch of forum poster strawpolls. Maybe we could do better.

Why can't they go with Campbell back to back?

After a number of days off...during the beginning of season.
You are just increasing the chances that he gets hurt. Do you really want to take the chance of us having to run a tandem of Hutch and Kallgren for the next few weeks minimum , for the sake of getting 2 pts from a team in a different conference?

maybe this early season struggle will put some media and fan pressure on this team and either they play better or Dubas finally has to trade a core player. If he does do that you have to look at the core 4 now. Matthew won't go. Tavares has a no move and well you got Marner and Nylander and we can see now Willy is the better player.

As for the lines, it's time to split up Matthews and Marner. Montreal put the blueprint on how to beat that line. Double team Matthews and let Marner and his muffin shot beat you and that just won't happen. We see Ritchie as useless

Time to roll this combo

Kerfoot - Matthews - Nylander. You got 2 shooters on this line plus a guy in Kerfoot who is a pass 1st guy and understands his role to be the D-conscious guy on that line.

Bunting - Tavares - Marner - You got 2 shooters in Bunting and Tavares both guys are willing to be in the blue paint to bang in the garbage when the play gets there. Marner can set up either guy vs only looking at Matthews

At least these 2 lines have 2 shooters and a passing guy on each line

Ritchie moves to the 3rd line and hopefully works a cycle line and worse case moves to the 4th line and move Spezza up to the 3rd line during the game.

Gotta be another 750K goalie out there who can pass waivers when needed be.

Marner looks broken.

I really Marner, so I do not criticize him.

This is the odd part.

I think I remember him playing better and looking more like a dangerous player under Babcock, a coach it turned out he hated.

Now he gets to do what he wants, and it is a big, meh.

Maybe there was more structure under Babcock, and players like Marner and Matthews were given a bit of a leash?

That is the other odd part. Seems like these new guys at management and coach, they seem even more inflexible than Babcock.

What are they going to do now to jump start the offense?

Wait.

There are no other moves left.

We dressed a uni goalie as a backup. We aren't concerned about goalie injuries...

Zekes for days will remind you Campbell has never been injured mid game and been pulled.

Well, we know the Leafs are their own worst enemies. So we'll either see their A game tomorrow so they can dick off next week, or they'll keep finding new and unusual ways to not get it done. This sounds like frustration, and it is. But it's also exactly who Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander and Rielly are and have been since the year they got Babcock fired. Squarely on those 5 guys.
