We can hope, we can certainly hope. Hopefully he's made his last trade as the Leafs GM too but unfortunately i sense a panic trade of our 1st rounder and/or Amirov/Liljegren/Niemela to get try and back on track
I think he might try but they can’t let him.

I don’t really care to rehash how the Dubas Lamoriello thing ended up. If the core isn’t good enough to make the championship climb and are generally unlikeable as a group, they’ll be dismantled like Kessel Lupul Bozak and we won’t miss them. It’s supposed to be fun. We’re supposed to like them.
Yeah, I have to agree. I don't dislike Tavares, Rielly or Matthews. I'm disappointed in that they're not who I thought they would be for us. But Marner, mannn is that guy hard to like at this point. He's nothing like he was in the first few years in the league. His elitist, petulent attitude sickens me. In demanding the moon, and delivering a turd in the playoffs and this season, he has become THE most unlikable Leaf I've ever seen...and I was alive during the Ballard years.

Last summer was the time to get a feel for what Rielly's camp is looking for. The cap is flat and not going anywhere, if he fits re-sign the player. If not, move him in off-season and address other areas. We know we're going to let him walk, it's horrible asset management. Same thing with JVR, Gardiner and Andersen in the past.
Obviously they could not reach a number that both sides agree on.
Reilly is walking, barring a miracle.

Holy Crap jersey tosses already

Already is a relative term though..for most fans this isn’t 5 games into the season, it’s season 6 of seeing the same shit..and this core had so much promise which makes it that much more frustrating

So if you don't have a handshake deal at the 2023 Draft, then off he goes?

absolutely. Like I said. At the end of the year. See where he is at. If he wants out. You facilitate a move.

if not. You keep him and see. If they go on a run. He will want to stay. If he doesn’t.

simple. Try to negotiate. If nothing is coming then you let his agent negotiate with a few teams.
Like CBJ did with Jones. Or trouba.

you can offer sign and trade for the 8th year. Agree and trade on July 2 to save a team the bonus etc.

you cannot. Let Matthews walk. He would never want that. Look at the RFA marner debacle. The biggest star in on the biggest team playing out the last year? That would be insane. He would never do it. That would be Nuts. He watched Tavares like that.

I thought pre espn that he was a no brainer to stay. He has a whole marketing team. Has some injuries. Pandemic. We can offer 8 years and bonuses. The bieber connection and being the all time best leaf is massive.

but if hockey takes off in the us due to espn. He may want to go south. If he does. Then he won’t stay the last year. It would be madness. It’s already silly now. 3 years away

I wish we could move on from Tavares for hockey reasons and Marner for a lot of personality, branding issues.

Personally I think JT has been better than Marner so far this year. At least he is getting some chances. Marner looks quite lost and weak out there.

I think the hard business decision is go to Matthews with a more or less blank cheque and a commitment for a long term deal with a feeling of whether he wants to cement his legacy here and be the cornerstone for the next phase of the build and if there's no deal to be had, he's traded the day before the NTC kicks in.

Is Dubas the guy to make that trade Stephen? I'm just not sure. The way it's going, it may be a moot point, he won't be around a few years from now.

I think this teams early success is coming to bite them back currently.

Would anyone hate this team's core if they missed the playoffs the first 2-3 years in their ELCs as the team got better and then made the playoffs the last 2 years but failed to make it further?

This team cannot carry the burden of the failures that preceded them, they can only be held accountable for their current failures and as much as it is a result oriented game, you have to be process oriented if you want to eventually win the Cup.

The Leafs can't win or lose the cup in a few games but little improvements go a long way and sadly I just don't see that from them.

When I watch the Bruins play, they play the same way win or lose any particular game. The same goes for Tampa, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Vegas, Washington etc. With the Leafs, I just don't know if they have decided what kind of way they want to play. They do a bit of everything.

Regular season Leafs hockey just isn't very exciting right now and truth be told, I've yet to watch a single game from start to finish this year. It's background noise for me right now while I do other things.

I just can't get myself to invest in the team until I can see a different result when it matters most.

Luckily due to the Cap, Dubas can’t trade picks and prospects for any quality players bc Leafs got no cap room.

A couple of early alarming stats,Montreal has had the lead once in their 5 games, it was against the mighty maple leafs. The leafs have a mediocre 2-2-1 record, 4 games against non playoff teams and the fifth against a sure fire lottery team in Montreal this season

Yea fair enough. I have my opinions, I would like to think that a multi-billion dollar organization has a bit more of a clue then us fans on the internet.

Wouldn't it be wild to run an organization with a bunch of forum poster strawpolls. Maybe we could do better.
Dave Nonis was gm of 2 nhl teams including the leafs....thats all I need to know about a billion dollar org having more of a clue part. I have no doubt fans could do as good or better. Sometimes it seems like those in charge are too close to the forest to see the trees and the fans (not all) see a wider picture. Many times on many different subjects regarding the leafs team and tactics, player personnel etc I see the fans on here recognizing things that management takes a lot longer to see. I mean Im up for the job if you guys are.

Lets be real. Leafs will be fighting hard for a wild card spot or at best maybe 3rd in the atlantic.

Expectations should be low. Current form leafs (management, coach, core roster) will not be true contenders

I think the biggest problem for me is actually the flat NHL cap and how Gary Bettman has turned the sport of hockey into a game of accounting before anything else even in a pandemic. So the entire framework is broken because the league is inherently knee capping a lot of championship climbs. Like why did the Lightning have to take apart their super team, or why are teams like Colorado and Toronto dismantling year after year before they even get there?

That said, the whole Leafs product feels stale because they’ve put themselves in a straight jacket and the core consistently fails to deliver on what their brand is, which is a highly skilled high octane offense that’s fun to watch. Aside from the frustration of half assed efforts, it’s just kinda… boring.

The Leafs are burning their window with this interim coach.

Team balance is a JOKE!

This team isn't going to accomplish much anyway even if they make the playoffs IMO

Campbell (22)+Mrazek(12) combined played 34 total games last season; we have a pending UFA as our #1D; no cap space; a 2C (JT) that cannot keep up with the modern day fast hockey; depth isn't anything special

heavily reliant on the 4 guys putting the team on their back in Matthews, Marner, JT, Nylander with 50% of the cap allocated to these 4.

Moron GM keeps yapping about how pens team had similar cap allocation but freakin moron forgets that prime Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Fleury is not the same as the 4 guys we have not just positionally speaking but in terms of actual hockey acumen, effort, will and execution.

Might end up being a long season OR we may make the playoffs and then get our asses handed to us again in the 1st round
