The game had a playoff feel and they were about as good as one could have expected. Domi was noticeable, Matthews and Nylander floated around couldn’t do much, and Mitch wasn’t allowed to play.

Marner should be riding pine for his performances lately.

He's had a few stinkers during this stretch. Coach needs to send a message about accountability. Sitting the greatest hockey player since Wayne Gretzky for a game would get it across loud and clear.

If Mitchy doesnt like it, who cares, he's gone in the offseason anyway.

I'd take my chances with a $13.25m unicorn over a small, soft, scoring challenged play making winger who disappears when the going gets tough and wants $14m to stay. Can't win with him making $14m along with two other guys who can't get it done making close to $25m.

One of them has to go, but I think you've got the wrong guy if you think it's Marner. Believe me, I've been frustrated with him as well, especially during the playoffs (I would have shot him to the moon after the Montreal debacle), but he does offer more during the regular season as a penalty killer, playmaker, and point producer than Matthews. In fact, I think Marner plays better without Matthews as indicated by his game when Matthews is injured. I agree with you that there is no way we should pay him more than 12.5 million but then again, I don't think your unicorn is worth $13.25 million.

Da issue in da playoff type games are always da same .. lack of foot speed and grit from Matty and Mitch .. Willy played ok .. JT played better than I expected .. Rielly looked like he was a lost puppy struggling to figure out what to do .. Benoit got overwhelmed with speed .. Laughton looked like he didn't belong on that ice surface .. but bottom line we don't have enough sustained grit like forecheckers and we don't dig down deep enough on backcheck either .. and lastly we lose too many puck battles where it comes down to who wants it more .. Berube can't teach those things .. hockey players either have it or they don't .. and our core doesn't have it .. and they never will .. like i said we will only win if our D plays shutdown hockey and our tender plays light out hockey .. we need to win 2-1 games bottom line .. Rielly and Laughton need to come out of da lineup and get perpetually sick in playoffs .. Rielly on;y plays if we get tampa

Marner is an expensive Johnny Hockey (RIP). He is not a game in and game out game breaker like McDavid, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Pastrnak, Kaprizov, Kutcherov, Matthews. Hell even Nylander when he wants to be. Yes, I included Matthews because he has been a game breaker until this year and it is very likely he is not 100% and why he is having a down year (still has more goals than Marner).

You do not keep a 20 goal scorer over a guy who can score 50 in his sleep. 100% Leafs agree and why they were happy to move Marner for Rantanen.

its a great opportunity to restructure the cap allocation and finally make a team to WIN

but treliving throwing a 1st rounder for laughton is something that has me scratching my head really.... so a little scared what he would do with the cap even if I want him to not re-sign marner and tavares
