Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose to Florida 3-2

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Biggest play in the game. He had to get it out there and you knew inevitably that they would score.
Florida is a good team, Leafs were right there with them.
Matthews isn’t right, that’s a concern. Worse I’ve seen him play, easily the best game I’ve seen Domi play. Nylander even had a couple hits, crowd had a good chuckle there.

Looking forward to the rematch in early April.
Was the crowd as electric as it sounded in the first period? There was a definite buzz coming across on the broadcast (felt like more than usual).

Laughton just stopped functioning on that PK. Just let Bennett go to the net when they were somewhat tangled up and just watched as he tapped it in. No idea what his game plan was there.

The guy is playing like he is putting money on the opposing teams. Check out his coverage of Mackinnon last week... Absolutely mind boggling.

What about Marner? You missed him in your analysis.

Florida was also missing Marchand, Tkatchuk and Ekblad.

Not quite playoff like but definitely more ramped up than any game I’ve been to in a long while. I expect tomorrow to be even more so. Looking forward to it.

Typical. The big boys don’t show up when it matters

Keep running it back though. Can’t wait for another first round exit

Such a garbage organization

Doesn't matter if you get Carlo, Laughton or any other pieces. If Matthews and Marner disappear in the big stage games it's all for naught.
Up to this point, they've shown me zero evidence that they have it in their DNA. What's more concerning, Matthews is no longer scoring at will and he's clearly not 100%.

Makes me think trading 2 firsts, Minten & Grebs was basically all for show and a big waste in a lost season. We're going nowhere with Matthews at 75%

He looks 35 - 50 percent to me. HIs lethal shot is completely non-existent anymore. Put the guy on the IR already and stop holding the team hostage.

The guy comes from a non playoff multi year rebuild in Philly. Pro scouting gets a thumbs down for targeting a guy who hasn’t played meaningful games in years.

We have to move forward spreading the wealth around
i think a lineup like this should be tried at least

knies-matthews-domi (~19 minutes)
jarnkrok-tavares-marner (~17 minutes)
mcmann-laughton-nylander (~17 minutes)
3 of holmberg, kampf, lorentz, reaves, robertson, Patches, (~7 minutes)

obviously the minutes can change based on pp's and pk's but that's what I would be in favour of doing. I think the team overplays the stars, especially marner too much.

in that florida game, nylander and laughton had some nice cycles to each other, and I think laughton gives us another reason to look at nylander on the third line.

The only thing with this lineup is that nylander has to really win his matchup, especially on the score sheet as that's where we create the biggest advantage for us in theory, otherwise him just being out there and either A) generating but not scoring or B) getting hemmed in is a collosal fail of the ideology and should be shut down. Nylander needs to be ~PPG and his linemates need to be ~45-50 point paces. He and his linemates need to perform similarly to his line against montreal.

Oh hey, we’re back.

Typical Leafs playoff loss. Stars were ghosts, special teams were trash, and we couldn’t score more than two goals. Same old same old. Division title is a pipe dream now.

We're not a very good team. Routinely out chanced, out shot, out worked etc. The difference between us and Florida is massive and our only hope is our goaltending gets scorching hot

Auston Matthews being paid 13.25 to disappear every 2 seasons is insane

No thanks - He'd just be another Clarkson on the Leafs.

He wouldn't work here, not enough Dogs around him here. He works in Florida because that team is literally tailor fitted to his identity.

Should have grabbed Rantanen.
Treliving didn't want to give up Matthew Knies which is f***ing insane

The guy shooting 24% on a line with 2 elite forwards couldn't be moved for a 100 point, playoff beast
