This is a preview of the playoffs sadly. Until Berube wakes up and doesn't get fooled by 1 period against a bottom feeder and puts Matthews and Marner on separate lines. They will get shut down against good quality teams.

I definitely didn’t have Washington this high in the standings on my pre-season bingo card.

Besides the goal… I thought Tavares was the best Leaf tonight… he created some good chances.

I know we lost but JT looked nasty on that goal

Honestly, felt like the never scored lol

That was easily the worst offensive effort of the season.

I don't care about the Caps defence, find a f***ing way.

Hope they are a lot better against a hot Pens team tomorrow (who are also on a b2b with travel).
It’s hard to score when a team is allowed to hold and crosscheck with impunity, probably why the offense goes dry in the playoffs.

They need to find a way to win these games.

Washington is a big strong team. They really exploited the Leafs tonight. Stolarz was the second best goalie on the ice tonight as well.

Marner was invisible.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but Stolarz couldn’t do much about either of those goals.

Washington played better and wanted this game more but holy f*** can we ever win the penalty differential? Add to that the absolute bullshit calls against us while they were allowed to obstruct is absolutely shameful. Does anybody at the league review these games?

But I’m disappointed by our effort level in a home game where first place in the conference was up for grabs.

Tough break with their second goal. We were going to lose at some point. Depth scoring is a real problem right now, if the big boys aren’t scoring we’re in tough. Hopefully that changes as we get guys back.

Onto the next one.

Leafs lose to the refs

Soft call after soft call on the Leafs, but Washington wasn't scoring so he kicked it to the front of the net.

What a ridiculously stupid take on what happened. The official was pulling his leg backwards, you cannot kick something forward by moving your foot backwards. If you want to lay blame for what happened lay it where it belongs - right on the shoulders of Captain America who made a crappy, lazy ass pass attempt that ended up costing his team the game.

There is NO depth scoring on this team. Tre has to make some moves at the trade deadline to acquire some help in the bottom six. Grebenkin, Reaves, Holmberg, Dewar, Lorentz, are not going to get you many goals. Robertson, who should be getting goals, is playing himself off this team with the lack of scoring and boneheaded plays and penalties.

A pass along the boards is a normal play. I don't even know how you blame Matthews on that play.

The ref moves his foot backwards thinking what? The puck is going to go through him?

Definitely playoff reffing.

Kadri - Matthews - Marner
Domi - Tavares - Nylander
Knies - Minten - McMann
Pacioretty - Lorentz - Reaves

Make it happen Tre.

lack of depht with all the injuries start to hurt

Leafs actually have 5 top 9 player in the line up and a bunch of 4th line player or AHL level player...Leafs absolutly need to upgrade 3rd line for playoff

You had the fact washington could hook/ trip and whatever they want and made a perfect pass for mcmichael.

Goals are overrated come playoff time. Come playoff time, it's about winning battles on the ice. Goals are a byproduct of positive play. All those players you mentioned, we need them.

Getting McMann and Domi back soon will help. They are both quality to 9 players. Hopefully one of Pacioretty, Robertson or Minten can crack it as a top 9 forward and then we trade for one at the TDL.

Bound to lose a tight game. Happier it was because of questionable reffing than the team making a mistake.

The struggled with Washington's pressure though so this is an opportunity for feedback. I did like that they kept their composure through it though and got chances.

The soft calls against the Leafs were one thing but what decided it was the non holding the stick call on Carlson. The ensuing shift was the bad bounce of the ref leading to the winning goal.

Encoring that those bad bounces seem to be the only way to score against the Leafs these days. Even the first goal was a nice tip.

The fourth line is a black hole though with Reaves back. They seem to be getting caved.

With 6 regulars out of the line-up, and a less than strong effort from our first line, this is an understandable loss. Stolarz, JT and Tanev were our best players. Tomorrow's another day.
