Tight checking game Matthews & Marner not noticeable, when they have time & space they are great, especially Marner but it looks like the same old story.
Game resembled previous playoffs...opponent plays with speed, and checks hard and Marner/Matthews struggle. Nylander looks good because of his incredible skating. Nylanders game seems to transfer to any style of game.

This is what kills me with our team. Way too cute and im sure Berube was talking to Matthews, Marner and Nylander when he said "not north enough".

These were consecutive shifts, Matthews line then Tavares after. Marner and Nylander both elect to not shoot in prime spots, instead they elect to hold the puck and pass to defenders. Both defenders shots are blocked. Marner actually had the space to attack the net and get a close rànge shot but he took the outside right away and looked pass the entire time.

In tight checking games with 20 shots on goal, its critical to take the shots when you have them. Stop looking to create a highlight reel.

Prime spot to shoot from is one thing, and having something to shoot at is another.

I get playing a tighter system, a more robust & tight checking game that's better suited for the playoffs. HOWEVER, if it comes at the sacrifice of any kind of offensive we're back to where we usually end up in the playoffs anyway, not being able to generate offense and get goals.

Shouldn't be that hard to do.

With gambling now legal I can see someone wanting to conduct a study like that. Sue the NHL if they find conclusive evidence of calls being influenced. Or use it to their advantage by betting appropriately depending on what the conclusions find.

Just from my own observations I don't think officiating tends to be the deciding factor in most games, but has at times been an issue, and this year the officiating appears to be a lot worse than normal for some reason.
They would have to wait for a game in the States to do that, because match fixing is legal in Canada.

That’s the point of starting early and hoping to get comfortable in them and clean our game up and round our team performance

That's not even possible. There's always an opening. As Gretzky once said..you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
Have you not played hockey? "There's always an opening" is total bs

In case you haven't noticed, you miss most of the shots you take too, particularly when there's nothing to shoot at.

Do you even know what hockey is?... literally impossible. A goalie cant take up the entire net and the players cant predict a goalies movement. Maybe if the goalie came out in butterfly and was 2 inches from the puck. Robertson just picked a corner against one of the biggest goalies and best goalies in the NHL (Vasy) from a worse angle than both Nylander and Marners spots (attached below).

Has anyone seen Austin Matthews…….I am not sure who the imposter is that is wearing his jersey but I hope they find him soon.
The team was more of a “team” when he was off.

Where is the hitting, the intensity, the extra effort and the nastiness they showed while Matthews was out that made them so successful?
I was actually starting to like Marners game. That’s all gone now that the great captain is back.
