Dermott should definitely come in for Sandin. I imagine Engvall indirectly replaces Tavares.

Question really is if they bring in Galchenyuk instead of one of the old guys on the 4th line. May have to consider Galchenyuk over Thornton.

Hyman/Foligno - Matthews - Marner
Galchenyuk - Kerfoot - Nylander
Foligno/Hyman - Nash - Mikheyev
Simmonds - Engvall - Spezza

Price is the only thing that worries me. Sucked in the AHL but made some good saves and had some luck today. The Leafs were the better team today otherwise.

Ya I was wondering about that... got to give them some sort of breather.... just seemed like desperate coaching

He used his timeout earlier but still it seemed like a desperate move at the end where you could see a player like Matthews was just wildly chopping at pucks and barely moving.

When you have a deep team you have to trust someone other the your core players to play the final 4 minutes of intense action.

Marner made some garbage decisions tonight. Shot when he should pass, passed when he should've shot. He needs to be better.

Thornton needs to kindly f*** off. Both goals are on him. I don't understand why he's on the PP, he killed all momentum and made the stupidest turnover for the gwg.

Sandin needs to win that foot race, he had a huge lead over Byron too.

Spezza was pretty bad as well.

We shot ourselves in the foot with all those delay of game penalties. 5 on 5 play I thought we badly out played them, way too many stupid penalties. We absolutely need to win the next game. Refs were great tbh, I thought they did a great job overall. They missed a too many men on Montreal, but overall I was happy with it.

He's always trying to be too cute
I'll take being too cute for his creativity.

Tightening up the basic plays would be great, like making a tape to tape entering the zone instead of a wayward pass that gets cleared or hitting a lowman for a dangerous walkout instead of hitting a stick

I’m not sure I can be mad at this one. I knew as soon as Tavares went down we were losing. It’s not fair to have to play after witnessing that, but that’s sports. I don’t think their heads were in it after seeing that. Back at it on saturday, we need Galchenyuk or Robertson in!

Who actually finds this team entertaining? No heart, No passion. It’s actually jarring watching this team after watching a few games the last few days
It's getting quite sickening watching pairs like Mackinnon/Rantanen and Kucherov/Point decimate their matchups while our 34/16 pair continues to "run into hot goalies".

Probably sick of the Tampa Bay comparisons.... but they did
We shouldn’t even compare a Stanley cup winning team to this team. It’s only game 1, Many overreacted, still think leafs win in 6, but in general, that team had more success even before that cup in a span of 3-4 years than our teams has in 50 years.

I will find 1 bright spot tonight is Nylander. He was dialed in and a beast tonight. I would have been feeding him on the PP vs going thru Marner. He was hot tonight but never took a shift with Matthews to spark something.

if Nylander plays like this that will only help

Keefe and Malhorta can f*** right off with putting Joe on the top PP unit, over Nylander. The puck dies on his stick the entire year, and suddenly game one of the playoffs its going change? Thats bad coaching at its finest, losing JT doesn't help but putting Thorton on the PP is just stupidty.
Agreed.
Just wayyyyyy too slow at decision making. Had like 3 turnovers on that PP before that SHG. Nylander also was having a solid game and was sitting
