Dermott should definitely come in for Sandin. I imagine Engvall indirectly replaces Tavares.

Question really is if they bring in Galchenyuk instead of one of the old guys on the 4th line. May have to consider Galchenyuk over Thornton.

Hyman/Foligno - Matthews - Marner
Galchenyuk - Kerfoot - Nylander
Foligno/Hyman - Nash - Mikheyev
Simmonds - Engvall - Spezza

Price is the only thing that worries me. Sucked in the AHL but made some good saves and had some luck today. The Leafs were the better team today otherwise.

agree with this post, Sandin isn’t ready. Dermott is more stable. Is anyone else against Bogosian playing with Muzzin? I just feel like he should be the match up defenseman

I will find 1 bright spot tonight is Nylander. He was dialed in and a beast tonight. I would have been feeding him on the PP vs going thru Marner. He was hot tonight but never took a shift with Matthews to spark something.

if Nylander plays like this that will only help
"Beast" ehm... he was good though.

Montreal does not scare me in the least. I will be shocked if we lose this series.

I would be shocked if the Leafs lost to the Habs in this series as well, BUT on the otherhand because its the Leafs at the same time I wouldn't be shocked if they lost to a team that's below them that they should beat.

Galchenyuk better be playing next game. We scratched him for Rielly fking Nash. Keefe’s seat is getting warm.

Riley Nash played as advertised. Absolutely nothing offensively but gave up nothing defensively.

That will be very important later. Don't think you take him out over a guy like Thornton, especially if you are adding an offensive specialist like Galchenyuk.

Anyone trying to make the argument Matthews was bad tonight is to put it bluntly terrible at evaluating hockey. He was all over the puck, had like 8 shots, credited with 5 hits but I think it was more, hit 2 posts. He played very well. Obviously we need production, but his effort level is without question and he had his chances

Yea, we kind of got a little screwed there. Lost 1/2 the first period after the JT hit.
We had it going til the Refs called that cheap hook on Spezza, that killed the momentum in the 2nd
Then the delay of game nonsense killed the 3rd.

They need to be better but had a lot go against them
When you have a PP with 8 minutes left in a 1-1 games, and give up a SHG, its on you. No one else.

Told you that Thornton Spezza Simmonds line is too slow. Put Brooks’ back at centre.

We're even fortunate Bert because the tempo and speed of this game was not at the level of some of those other series where its a track meet particularly that TB/Florida series.

Still that greybeards line look slow and ineffective.

We might see some younger faster legs as the series progresses particularly in that back to back set.

The thread title is a bit much LOL.

I will say that's the ideal game 1 for Montreal, Toronto can't score, Price is stellar, and the Leafs lose a star player for the series.

This place is gonna be pretty toxic so I'll see y'all for Game 2.

Agree. But I'm trouble finding a definite lineup I love.

I wouldn't mind
Foligno-Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Kerfoot-Hyman

It's not the 1A, 1B we're used to but it's still two strong, two way lines, neither needing sheltering. Play the shit out of both

Then bottom 6 I'd be tempted to go
Galchenyuk-Brooks/Engvall-Spezza (offensive situation bottom 6, matchup buster.
Soup-Nash-Simmonds - true playoff 4thine (defense+ aggression)

Disagree.

1. Blew 3 chances on 2 on 1 plays, without getting a single shot off, because Montreal backcheckers out husseled our guys, who waited too long to make a decision.

2. Powerplay was hideous, again. All that offensive talent and absolutely no class on thr powerplay. Just a disgraceful unit... Gave up another shorthanded goal

3. Matthews hits a post and Nylander hits the cross bar with a wide open net and all the time in the world. Again, players that are offensively reliable, choking when the games really count.

How many high danger scoring chances and man advantages do you want in one game? It was the same think against Columbus last year. All that money on offense and no scoring class.

We hit 2 off the post on the PP, Matthews had a solid 3-4 chances on the PP. Thornton f***ed the powerplay, apart from him the rest of it looked better. That very easily could've been a 3-1 game for us, game of inches.
