Nice take on the Habs but the shot totals were not indicative of a “park the bus” game.

Montreal depends on Price.

we depend on 34 and 16.

Price earned his money tonight.

34 and 16 did not deliver.

How bout Simmonds out too?

For all this alleged grit he's supposed to bring, he sure made himself invisible lately.

Can we just go all in on our speed and skill identity? Mixing grit in does nothing, every player who comes here eventually blends in and completely abandons their physicality.

We lost with that identity once or twice already. Wanna make it a 3rd time now? That's a great idea to bring in some more skill to play like 10 shifts on the 4th line.

They'll come back and win this series. But it's the response

Kawahi would have taken someone's head off in a game if Lowry was taken out
Lowry would have killed someone. That's the bothering part
I would rather they actually score. Because they don't appear to be able to do that in the playoffs.

Boy Marner really loves playing playoff hockey. Games get tight and he can't be found.

After they lose this series he is the 1st guy I would deal to shake up the team and give them flexibility. He is simply not a playoff player.
I mean I have been told Marner is our best player. If he is, we are in trouble.

We didn't even make the playoffs last year.
Now we're back in, only lost by a goal. Montreal is so hot right now.
Our top guns have only been together for several years.
Baby steps... :sarcasm:

Galchenyuk for Tavares.
Brooks for Nash.
Play Thornton less, but I wouldn't bench him just yet simply because I don't really like Engvall at all.

Damn...hope Johhny T is OK. I've ignored hockey this year but it's tough not to see that. Hopefully one day MLSE will finally fire that loser Dubas and we can start a new.

If you pull off the triple fail on the SH goal, you don't deserve to win.

The vets who were supposed to make an impact were pretty garbage too. Simmonds, Thornton, Spezza, Foligno, Nash.

I thought they were saving it for the playoffs but it seems more likely that they just have nothing left to save or give or contribute in any form whatsoever.

Weird with the 3 delay of game penalties but the 3rd one, Nylander, was 100% him nervously trying to avoid a hit...in a playoff game...when we’d already taken two of those.

Thing that bothers me is I know talk on their room is to “punish our soft core until they expose themselves as pretenders”. And this sunflower nylander does his best to prove them right in game friggin 1.

How about Simmonds? Foligno? Where were they?
It's okay the grit fans will realize skill is what wins. Not grit and heart and those buzz words.

You need everything to win - grit, skill, speed, toughness. The teams that win have it all. I guess st Louis didn't have that much speed when they won, but they were the most physical team in the league.

No doubt. Then dont' play him much. that's on the coach
But to keep playing Simmonds and Mikhayev and Joe over Engvall who has 4 goals last 6 games and Gally that's on the coach as well

I been screaming about SImmonds all seaosn, he just sucks

Oh well yeah, they sucked too, but didn't really cost us the game like Thornton.

But I agree with you, much better options are sitting scratched that will play hungrier.

Every single line played like they had no chemistry.

They need to create at least one line that plays tough. They spent the entire game spinning away from checks and throwing the pick over the glass.

As expected the soft play of the rest of the team even makes Foligno look like a medicore, useless player out there. Put this guy with a couple of aggressive, tough players and create a line that's scary to play against.

Who's the 2C next game? Spezza? I can't imagine Kerfoot or Engvall or Nash.
Gally has to be in for one of Simmonds or Thorton. Well need the offense.

After seeing the blood dripping down Tavares' face, I told my wife the leafs will lose this game but win the series.

They wouldn't be able to get the Tavares incident out of their heads today.

But Saturday forward will be more "win this for Tavares" and rally them.

I have never in my life felt so horrible and I have seen Berrand incident

THe way he went back............... Man I love JT. I hope for his family's sake he's ok. This is the man who won us the gold single handilty against the US

Keefe and Malhorta can f*** right off with putting Joe on the top PP unit, over Nylander. The puck dies on his stick the entire year, and suddenly game one of the playoffs its going change? Thats bad coaching at its finest, losing JT doesn't help but putting Thorton on the PP is just stupidty.

Positives:
-Montreal didn't sustain a lot of ES pressure
-Their PP is as poor as ours
-Our PK was fantastic
-They only score off the rush
-Jack Campbell looks good when he's not trying to play the puck
-Matthews, Nylander, Hyman look hungry

He leads our team in playoff scoring.

No, that is not a good thing.
