The Leafs will still end up winning the division. Everyone has to take a big, deep breath.
Maybe, but what good has that done us recently? We've already proven that regular season success is not positively correlated to post-season success for this group.

The leafs battled back and played pretty good.

Nylander played ok, but that penalty in OT sealed the game for BOS.

If I may ask an obvious question: why watch the team through 82 games then?

I mean, I totally agree with you in that these f***ups are annoying as hell to watch and the team is massively flawed, but why watch every game if you don't have to?

It’s what fans do.

Too soon to tell, lets talk after five or six years, anything sooner should be blamed on Boy Wonder just like he got to blame everything on Lou. If Shanahan is the puppet master who’s to dispute it was HE who wanted Domi, Bertuzzi, Klingburg, and extending Keefe?

This is just so incredibly funny because its so very true

Boston is different man…. They’ll always have stars

It’s not about being different, it’s their coaches have a brain. If you’re calling up a skilled young guy you need to play them in the top six with skilled players. Our dumbass organization brings up young guys and plays them with guys like Kampf and Reaves and expects them to have an impact. Other organizations understand that these young guys are good enough to to play and you need to insulate them along side players who can make plays. Unless the guy you call up is a legit fourth liner.

Thought we played a solid road game. Boston showed why they are the class of the league yet again. This game had a playoff intensity, and we ultimately lost due to making 2 very costly mistakes.

1st GA was a complete fire drill. Ya Klinberg deserves a ton of blame on that play, but realistically that was 5 men all in the wrong position. Mo was literally at the point second before that puck crossed the goal line. Truly baffling display of "structure" in our own end.

2nd GA is all on Brodie. You just can't try and make that play at the far blue line against a team like this. There's zero awareness on his end to who is on the ice for the bruins. I knew the very second he dove for that puck that there'd be an odd man rush going back the other way. It was a lose lose situation. Not exactly sure what he was thinking TBH

Other then that, I liked our battle for most of the night TBH. Our first period was really solid with exception to the brain far 1st goal. Our 2nd period was really solid, probably should have gone into the intermission up 3-2. The 3rd was a bit of a chess match, but I was happy with the period overall.

OT was meh. Willy can't take that penalty. But other then that, we did OK.

Shootouts are irrelevant to me TBH.

That said, I just cannot understand the lack of response to the Marchand/Lilly incident. I am not expecting Reaves to fight Marchand. That's a matchup that would result in an instigator, and almost guaranteed to be broken up before it even starts. But the team didn't even seem fazed by it all. The apathy displayed on that bench is unacceptable, and it needs to change right away. You got Lilly down in the corner, and Bert chuckling at Marchand on the bench?? I would not be surprised if that was the reason he actually got benched. It's not OK.

So many takeaways from that game:

- As I posted before the game, TJ Brodie is shot. Guy is the worst player on the team at the moment, and he plays 21 mins a night. With Liljegren out now, this is going to be BAD.

-Calle Jarnkrok is completely useless and should not be in the top 6. He can’t pass, he can’t shoot, he doesn’t win battles, why is he there? Nylander was on the ice for him for 5 seconds on the top line and they score immediately.

-Ryan Reaves is entirely useless. Doesn’t hit, doesn’t fight, can’t contribute on the ice. Why is he here? Brad Marchand should be in the hospital right now with Lily.

A little late, but if keefe sends kampf out for faceoffs and I guess defence, and kampf sucks on faceoffs, why wasn’t Tavares sent out tonight instead? He was 52% vs Kampfs 38%.

Tavares has looked faster this season so I just think it would be a better shot of winning the draw and still having offence out there. Obviously it’s 3 on 3 ot with shuffled lines, but keefe makes a lot of head scratching decisions for the lineup
Tavares may be our best faceoff C, but he'd easily our worst defensive C. Kampf was good on faceoffs last year, and our best defensive C. This year not so much.

Aside from the Lilly fiasco, what I noticed was:

Sammy played well, except in the kiddie game ending.

Lagesson was decent.

Nice steal and pass by Willy and pass by Matty on Mitch's goal.

'Selke level defence' by Mitch on Boston's second?

And leafs was playing at 5 d with 3 of their top 7 d injured, should that be more easy for leafs?!?!?!

It was a great game, both team played pretty well and finish with a tie... we saw a lot of good thing from that game, just dont understand all those complain. Win or lost in shoutout change absolutly nothing except 1 extra pts free...
Do not care that we lost a game in November in a SO. Losing Lily made no difference. In fact, they were the better team after losing Lily. My concern is that this team did not show any snot against our biggest division rival after what Marchand did to their brother.

He was great last night but I'm not sure what he was thinking there.

Domi and Bertuzzi are 9th., and 10th. in scoring behind Knies, Jarnkrok and Klingberg.

Really need them to provide some offense, they aren't exactly bringing anything else.
They need to be much better. Need more from them forsure. I hope the next 10 games they start figuring it out.

I would add Kampf to that list. He gets too much from the coaches for very little he brings

Our bottom 6 again didn't contribute to any ozone time. Esepcially 3rd line. Gregor was good.
But Domi, Kampf are hurting

One of our top 4D was hurt in an extremely cynical and dirty play and nobody on this pathetic ***** ass team did anything

He's your teammate ffs, if that isn't enough to get a reaction this team is beyond help

This is the most unlikable team I've ever seen, heartless cowards every last one of them
There’s that, yes. I don’t think you can do too much to the weasel in that game. Would have liked to see someone finish a big hit or something on him. How many more times do we play them this season?

Beauty game that aside.

Go with 7 D, presss box the 12th. forward.

We don’t even have 5 capable NHL D men right now with all the injuries. They need to us Liljegren and Timmins LTIR space to call up Robertson and McMann. Inject some youth into the line up

I don't get how other organizations promote random guys like Poitras and Lohrei and they just play the game like it's normal hockey while guys need to be potty trained on the ice and they worry about gitters and all sorts of nonsense. It's like they get coaching or something and all the development we doing Toronto is pure nonsense.
Well not really random guys my friend but good drafting and developing when you can replace the likes of Bergeron and Krejci and suspended McAvoy with Matthew Poitras, Johnny Beecher, and Mason Lohrei and not skip a beat starting 9-0-1 in first 10 games.

Leafs think they hit the bank with #38 Fraser Minten in 2022 of a future bottom 6 checking centre, but Boston drafts Matthew Poitras #54 overall same draft class to replace Bergeron and he has 3-2-5 points in his first 10 games in the NHL. playing top 6 on an undefeated team.

"Play the Kids" is something other organizations are not afraid to do. :wg:

The Leafs will still end up winning the division. Everyone has to take a big, deep breath.
You also said that everyone would forget the LA game after we best Boston. Well guess what, we didn't beat Boston, I still remember the LA game very well and the way nobody cared about Liljegren getting hurt by the biggest dirtbag in the league is just another piece in the constantly growing, massive pile of evidence that proves that this team is soft as butter, they don't stand up for each other and therefore, won't go deep in the playoffs.

Still a good regular season team though so winning the division is a possibility. If that's something you can be proud of, hey that's great. For myself, I want a team that competes when the going gets tough, sticks up for each other and can go deep in the playoffs and this group of softies ain't it.

Edit - winning the division is also a long shot. Boston looked good to me, they're for real. They have a winning culture over there and they don't take many nights off during the season the way the Leafs do. Maybe if they suffer a bunch of injuries we have a shot but that's just a strong team from top to bottom. Team is the key word there, we have a bunch of individuals, Boston has a team.
