We don’t even have 5 capable NHL D men right now with all the injuries. They need to us Liljegren and Timmins LTIR space to call up Robertson and McMann. Inject some youth into the line up

They only allowed 2 goals in Boston with 5 defenders.

So, here's the question?

Boston can't score?
Samsonov was excellent?
Team defense is good?

A good system permits the introduction of non-experienced defenders to get experience. You don't put a developing player into the line-up to lead the team. You put them in to be lead, and learn the NHL game. Prospects do not get NHL experience in the AHL.

Domi and Bertuzzi are 9th., and 10th. in scoring behind Knies, Jarnkrok and Klingberg.

Really need them to provide some offense, they aren't exactly bringing anything else.
Bertuzzi leaves Boston because of the likely thought process they will be in decline, and he will play alongside Matthews and Marner, rack up tons of points and then cash in big on his next contract. Klingberg playing the #1 PP with the Core 4 likely thinks he will pile up the points to benefit him personally going forward..

Leafs have a "Mercenary" feel to their team building process where players use the Leafs only as a stepping stone to help future contract earnings, that same thought process might not only extend to external arrivals put Leafs own players demanding "Market high" contracts to provide their services to the Leafs.

Players that take team discounts more inclined to put the team first and not themselves.

In a team sport where everyone seems too focused on themselves first, particularly if you create a society of paying top $$ first, and then expect results second as opposed to earning those contracts on merits of not only personal but rather team success, is putting the cart before the horse strategy.

Well not really random guys my friend but good drafting and developing when you can replace the likes of Bergeron and Krejci and suspended McAvoy with Matthew Poitras, Johnny Beecher, and Mason Lohrei and not skip a beat starting 9-0-1 in first 10 games.

Leafs think they hit the bank with #38 Fraser Minten in 2022 of a future bottom 6 checking centre, but Boston drafts Matthew Poitras #54 overall same draft class to replace Bergeron and he has 3-2-5 points in his first 10 games in the NHL. playing top 6 on an undefeated team.

"Play the Kids" is something other organizations are not afraid to do. :wg:

I did think about Minten vs Poitras and it does give me Nam flashbacks about all the prospect yo-yo’ing that has occurred under Dubas and Keefe over the past 3-4 years.

Going back to Robertson in the playoffs, Sandin on PP1, Barabanov, Lehtonen experiments this team doesn’t seem to provide a lot of structure when promoting players to roles. Or the Leaf Marlies development they go through doesn’t prepare them for the real game and real roles, with no small confidence building steps that snowball into success.

Too soon to tell, lets talk after five or six years, anything sooner should be blamed on Boy Wonder just like he got to blame everything on Lou. If Shanahan is the puppet master who’s to dispute it was HE who wanted Domi, Bertuzzi, Klingburg, and extending Keefe?
lol what? 5 or 6 yrs? You are a much much much more patient person than myself. Im looking over at Calgary and thinking who put this shits how together then Im looking at all the new guys on the leafs and thinking who the hell brought these guys in then Im looking at the coach and thinking who re upped this guy?..........He needs more time but so far.....yikes.

Pretty much bang on. Had the Leafs won in overtime or in a shootout, the reaction on here would be completely different. Two high-end teams with injuries basically played to a draw. I don't get how people can be so negative about this.
Watching yet another of our guys take serious abuse with zero response has a lot of people uneasy as it is showing us this team has not changed in the slightest even with a guy like Reaves around. Haves and have nots and the haves while talented as f are soft and not built for the playoffs. Our powerhouse forwards couldnt get the job done against a mostly ahl defense. I wouldnt think it would need to be explained as to why people are upset with that game but your welcome.

That said, I just cannot understand the lack of response to the Marchand/Lilly incident. I am not expecting Reaves to fight Marchand. That's a matchup that would result in an instigator, and almost guaranteed to be broken up before it even starts. But the team didn't even seem fazed by it all. The apathy displayed on that bench is unacceptable, and it needs to change right away. You got Lilly down in the corner, and Bert chuckling at Marchand on the bench?? I would not be surprised if that was the reason he actually got benched. It's not OK.
Our core and coach do not have any of that DNA in their system and never have so good luck with that changing, especially right away...lol

Exactly this. We showed once again that we're not a team, we're a bunch of individuals who don't stick up for each other and the guy thinks people care about a shootout. SMH.

Was Keefe or any of the players asked about the lack of response by the press?

Fans watch all 82 regular season games of a team that tries only on the rare occasion when they feel like it?

More power to you. I admire it, truthfully.
Old habits are hard to break. I usually miss a game here and there so I'll probably only watch maybe 78 or so. ;)

After last night though, I don't think I'll be watching closely. I'll probably have the game on while I play guitar or do whatever on my computer and turn to the TV when a goal is scored or when our players are laughing after one of their teammates gets hurt by an opposing player.

The core was imprinted with a little too much Patrick Marleau in their early years.

Do not care that we lost a game in November in a SO. Losing Lily made no difference. In fact, they were the better team after losing Lily. My concern is that this team did not show any snot against our biggest division rival after what Marchand did to their brother.

And whats marchand did? Trip liljegren when he tried to win a 1v1 battle

It was just a hockey play missed and he didn't try at any moment to hurt liljegren.

If you have Reaves out there you’re still f***ing around unfortunately.
While Reaves has limited skill he was brought in to be our bouncer and take care of the dirty business and Ive seen enough of him in the past to know thats what he does and is pretty good at. Its becoming very clear that Keefe doesnt like rough and tumble hockey and has told Reaves to stand down. Its not the first time he has done that and Im sure it wont be the last but I wonder what Tre thinks about that. He stated he likes the tough stuff (snot) and he brought in Reaves so Reaves could do his thing only to have his enforcers wings clipped. Doesnt help that pretty much every single player on the leafs has no desire to get involved that way. The bench where Reaves was chirping Marchand after the can opener was telling and has reaffirmed my belief that this team is a collection of individual players and is def not a team. Im craving a team that will go through the wall for each other....this bunch is not it and never will be.

Ok lets put it this way....If the roles were reversed how do you think Vegas, Tampa, Boston, react?

Hey, I applaud you all, I'm not trying to talk shit or anything. I admire the dedication to be honest.

I don't have a lot of free time so the choice is made for me, so to speak.

I was trying to be being facetious on the timeline, a dig at the Dubites. I don’t like what he’s done so far either, but lets be honest he wasn’t given any real time to get the team prepared for this season. I still think part of the reason he was hired is because maybe the board are losing faith in the Shanaplan, I know I have……….

Another thing that pissed me off last night re: Lack of Leafs response to the Marchand play, the very next shift Montgomery sent Brad right back out there knowing damn well he's going to be safe because no Leafs player is going to do anything. And he was exactly right.

When the opposing coach rubs your spinelessness in your face and you still don't respond, you really know you've got problem.

Game really did not matter .. once your team-mate goes down with a very very dirty play it is F***** war rest of that game .. this core does not have it in them .. they will never be winners .. too many sweet mommies boys

You also said that everyone would forget the LA game after we best Boston. Well guess what, we didn't beat Boston, I still remember the LA game very well and the way nobody cared about Liljegren getting hurt by the biggest dirtbag in the league is just another piece in the constantly growing, massive pile of evidence that proves that this team is soft as butter, they don't stand up for each other and therefore, won't go deep in the playoffs.

Still a good regular season team though so winning the division is a possibility. If that's something you can be proud of, hey that's great. For myself, I want a team that competes when the going gets tough, sticks up for each other and can go deep in the playoffs and this group of softies ain't it.

Edit - winning the division is also a long shot. Boston looked good to me, they're for real. They have a winning culture over there and they don't take many nights off during the season the way the Leafs do. Maybe if they suffer a bunch of injuries we have a shot but that's just a strong team from top to bottom. Team is the key word there, we have a bunch of individuals, Boston has a team.
Did you notice the bench when Reaves was having a chat with Marchand after the can opener? Everyone looked like they didn't care. So instead of all of them at the very least giving Marchand an earful they gazed into space. But the most egregious look was on Bertuzzi's face. That half smile while looking anywhere but at Marchand was disgusting and inexcusable. I wanted to jump through my tv screen and smack his ugly face. I hope someone has a screen shot. If you're not going to contribute offensively, or hitting, at least show that you care about your teammate.
