He's been in crisis since day one of camp... last year he was great on his redemption tour, but turns out there's a reason the Caps walked on an ultra talented Russian goalie, first round pedigree and didn't even regret it for a second despite missing the playoffs.

This is not a serious team. I know this will trigger people but Nylander should be on the trade block. They won't be able to afford to re-sign him and he's the only top player they have even a semblance of control over. Even if you think they can make a run in the playoffs, he isn't the difference anyway. Either trade him for a good defenseman, a good goalie or prospects/picks. I really like Nylander, this isn't some hate post. They have to cut their losses with this core at some point.
