We got Robidas Island for the "injured" players. We need another island for the healthy players who simply suck. Let this island be called Samsonov Island!

That was one of the worst games defensive structure wise that I think I’ve ever seen. So many odd man rushes. Sabres allowed to pass right through the neutral zone for breakaways with no resistance. That’s a complete effort and awareness fail on the Leafs part.
...and on top of that, the goalie cannot goalie. Double whammy.

...not sure they have discovered fire yet. Feels like a game like this doesn't even move the needle for these guys.
it has too move the needle man, I expect a runaway freight train, demolishing everything in its path moving forward now. No way they take this one lightly. This is massive blow to their ego.

Serious question
Does anyone still think this is an elite team……or a cup contender?

I think you’re asking the wrong question.

Did the Leafs continue to improve as a team after 2021 and 2022 and round out as a truly elite contender? I think they are off trajectory.

But the league also got a lot worse with more parity so in theory it looks like from a relative strength perspective the Leafs are right there in the mix.

Basically we got worse but the bar to win the cup has been lowered.

They have not improved in a number of years. It’s just more of the same dam crap every year.
What is the common denominator…………the core.

Agreed but that’s part of the team…….thats what elite contenders have and we do not
A couple of the 5,6,7 are better than I thought. Still need the 1 or 2 and a 3 or 4, but they still have lots of time and will have lots of cap space.

Matthews, our star was out with the flu, and THEY SPANKED then pens 7-0....my point, dont make excuses, grab a dictionary if you don't know the meaning.

Just so I understand... what was I excusing? There needs to be something to make an excuse for.

I said I'd like to see a healthy team before I say they can't contend...

It's a simple concept. I'd like to watch the optimal team they have to make a better decision since sometimes they look amazing and sometimes they look bad.

Embarassing performance by the entire team including the coaches who think they can fix that broken sieve Samsonov. It's one thing to have a shitty save percentage or gaa but the goals this pathetic excuse for a goalie is letting in is inexcusable. A couple of players who need to get their heads out of their asses are Tavares and Brodie. And once again, Timmins is NOT an NHL defenceman. Robertson is not ready for the NHL. I expect them to come back with a much better effort against Columbus. If they don't, then Merry f***ing Christmas to all Leaf fans.
