Say what you will about Babs' character and tactics. This old school male way of interacting may be identified as bullying or plain psychotic behaviour but it hardens the athletes if it doesn't break them. There are several examples of championship caliber head coaches known for not just their brilliance but their head games and their aloofness.

I just can’t get over the fact that it was ZAR making an Engvall style feather pass into the feet of Lafferty on an easy zone out vs their 4th line.
Talking about the 1st goal?

Holl shovels the puck weakly from the goal line to ZAR who then flubs it leading to a turn-over.
Perry skates around the back of the net and comes out the other side where Holl is positioned to hit him and stop the play.
Holl waves his stick and doesn't make any contact at all.
The puck goes to the slot, gets scrummed, and the puck goes into the net.
All the while Justin Holl is standing to the right of his goalie not covering anyone or boxing anyone out or playing the puck, or actually doing anything.

The play started with Holl, was exacerbated by ZAR, and further exacerbated by Holl.

Yeah agreed, not complaining about the ones called against us, more so the ones that Tampa got away with and were not called. I find it hard to believe that a team as soft as melted butter can get 8 PIM's and Tampa get 2 up till the 3rd...
They're sneakier.

You dont notice a trip on the puck like Killorn did to Gio as much as you notice Schenn inventing a one hand cross check. Just like you dont notice the whole arena standing up for Paul holding McCabe at the benches like you do a baby slash on the stick that was immediately followed by mirror image play by Perry

Theyre both to blame. ZAR has time and space to make a good decision but doesnt. Then they both blow coverage on their TB assignments infront. Perry walks to the front and ZARs man scores.

Oh yeah I share your Holl frustrations for sure. Believe me. But the 4th liner just needs an out to avoid putting our D into scramble mode to begin with. You can’t be that brain dead and make plays so unsuitable for your role.

Having a meltdown after seven games in the season, or one game in the playoffs, is equally short sighted, and premature. How did all that panic after seven games look, by the end of the season? Patience...
I have the complete opposite take.

The 7 games to start the season showed that nothing had really changed. They don't really care. They float around. And over an 82 game schedule their talent alone will make them high in the standings. And then that nonchalant attitude will ONCE AGAIN rear its ugly head in the playoffs.

So when the leafs were "regular season good" again by December, everyone look back at the October threads and said "See? Told you so. They of course got it back together." and I was screaming "NOOOOOO!!!!!! That's not the correct take. This team is ALWAYS 'regular season pond hockey good' but hat horrible start showed. they. haven't. changed. and we'll see it once again come playoff time."

Most leaf fans had the CORRECT response 7 games in, and they're having the correct response now.

How does one see which ref called which penalty in any given game? Couldn't tell from Scouting the Refs

It's pretty conclusively not a goal. They keep talking about the post, but nobody else is talking about the post. You can draw a straight line across the goal line itself and easily see that it's not over the goal line.

Either way, there's also the issue that it was called a goal on the ice despite the ref not actually seeing it across the line.

So either they messed up, or they messed up. Either way, they messed up.

They did it again!

Or maybe they had a better shot than TOUGH CALL utube channel and their very convenient fade to black. Easy to get your bias confirmed with the appropriate channel ready :)

They do tend to be smarter about it.

Do you know what the difference between losing 7 to 3 and getting your arse kicked and losing 3 to 2 in a game you should woulda coulda won?
Nothing.

The boys need to take that sad look off their faces and get p****doff.

Wake up call received. 6 games left .
There's talent here

Forget about the refs, ain't nothing anyone can do.

For a moment there in the 2nd period we saw the right team appear.

Lots of time left.

Huge difference for a fragile team that shows up unprepared, and has lost 6 years in a row. . Lose a hard fought battle, you build on that. Losing the way they did again, only adds to their apparent insecurity and lack of mental fortitude

Wrong as usual. I didn't say I had evidence.
Except you did, seen here:
They had the evidence, they showed it, we saw it
And then I asked you to provide this evidence, and show it to the overwhelming majority that disagree with you, and you have repeatedly refused.
Or maybe they had a better shot
Ok, where is it? I'd love to see it. So many people talking about this magical secret evidence that nobody can provide. Show me the evidence.

Lol, what? I didn't even post that video.

I can’t believe we got dominated by 38 year old Corey f***ing Perry that can’t even skate and didn’t have a point in his final 10 regular season games. Unbelievable.

reffing aside, we got exactly what we deserved. Sure, I don't like how the game was officiated once the score was 3-2. It really felt like Wes and crew smothered any possibility of a comeback with some of those calls. But at the end of the day we put ourselves in that spot.

The refs did not lose us that game. They were not great, but we were worse.

Accountability is key in losses like this. We need to understand that a start like the one we had is unacceptable any time of the year, let alone playoffs. Top to bottom we were outplayed, outcoached and out prepared.

That said, it is only 1 game. Lets not sound the fire alarm quite yet. they still need to win 3 more. If anyone thought this was going to be an easy series, let game 1 serve as a reminder that we are playing the B2B2B cup finalists. This is far from over lady's & gents.

I say it often on here, but it is kind of funny how we expect complete composure from our players on a nightly basis, yet the second we stumble and have a showing like the one last night, this forum is predominantly in melt down mode. Lets do exactly what we want our players to do, regroup, learn from it, and move on. Plenty of hockey left

Go Leafs Go!
This is a good take, agreed. From 3-2 the reffing screwed us but we did it to ourselves as well.

Anyone know why ZAR was on the ice with 19 minutes in the first period coughing up muffins to the other team? Jesus Christ what kind of coach runs the 4th line for the second shift of a first home playoff game. There are 2 other fresh better lines that need to get their feet wet and get in rhythm. That was the most frustrating thing and then we just got snowballed after that because leafs and the arena were shocked.

Terrible coach

The ref called it a goal and the video review people called it a goal and most of the posters here agree, but Dekes made his pronoucement and can't be argued with, so we must all be lying.

Did the video review folks call it a goal or did they deem the review inconclusive so they went with the call on the ice?

Youd think Sportsnet and the broadcast would show it, no? Generally thats good content for intermission, post game, etc that the broadcast and NHL would both want out there.

I posted the best broadcast view i found
