Weird to me people keep ripping on Matthews and Marner. They were fine. Obviously we want more from them, but they were dominant at times, and really weren't an issue. I imagine theyll look better with more consistent ice time. On the other hand, the entire defense has looked like complete dogshit, faltering the moment they've seen a semblance of pressure, giving away the puck like crazy. Giordano and Holl were especially bad, and I don't think Schenn playing is wise even if his numbers were fine. Not to mention the entire bottom-6 basically did nothing positive all game. I'll give Sammy a pass because most of the goals weren't overly bad besides the Point one at 0.1, but we need some saves if we want to win the series, and he needs to be better.

The only three positives I'll take out of this:
1. Tampa's top line was complete, utter dogshit at 5v5, and they won't be getting that much PP time the rest of the series combined.
2. We'll have different refs next game.
3. William Nylander is really good at playoff hockey, and he showed up again.

You lose 7-1 you lose 2-1
It's the same

Lets get the next one

I am still baffled, why we didn't show emotions. Especially considering leafs were out of the game in 2nd period
We should have been sending a message, hitting anything that moves
Try to get into Vasi's head
exactly this, should of been pretty self explanatory, but this team just did not seem to get that

This game is on Sheldon Keefe. And no you can't change my mind. It was absolutely bad coaching, line up decisions. Can't adjust, can't coach on the fly and can't run his bench efficiently even with last change. Cooper schooled Keefe right from the get go when Keefe was trying to play catch up and cooper already caught him off guard. Meanwhile Holl was an absolute PYLON when Tampa scored their first goal (Holl was a pylon the entire game btw).

Bottom Line: Keefe was TERRIBLE!!!! I can write an essay on how bad Keefe is. Since picture is worth a thousand words I'd do that instead of writing a novel

He has to start coaching to win.

Lilly in for Holl.

Knies in for Kerfoot or ZAR.

Basically roll 3 lines:

Knies Matthews Jarnkrok
Marner Tavares Lafferty
Bunting O'Rielly Nylander
Acciari Kampf Aston-Reese

Rielly McCabe
Brodie Gio
Schenn Lilly

Sammy (short leash)
Woll

Got spanked, learn your lesson and move on. onto the next games
Unfortunately they don’t learn any lessons. We have been watching this sort of thin for 7 playoffs now and nothing changes.
This game was just like 50% of the games they have played since the trade deadline.
the only thing they learned tonight is that Tampa is still a good team and they are in trouble

never the players, always the coach.

Forget that this kind of game has happened since before him, it was all his fault.

I called in the playoff series thread that what keefe was doing is a mistake. go check that thread or my post history if you want.

I could see this coming long ago

Coach's job is to get his team ready, start on time and not screw off. And if things fall off the railings then coach on the fly and adjust.

What "adjustments" do you think Keefe made? And if you want to call out players then call out the GM who didn't move these players

Are you going to call out Dubas?

Winning big didn't help last year. Maybe losing big will.

Until the Bunting penalty I thought the Leafs were the more physical team. Can't lose that edge.

Thought Willy was good. PP was 50% so that is a positive.

PK was terrible. Sammy was below average. That can't happen. He doesn't need to steal games but he has to better.

This is where I believe ROR, Schenn and the rest of the new hired guns make a difference. No chance they let this happen again.

It’s pretty simple to me. The Leafs star players don’t perform well under pressure. The top players raise their games when the games matter most. The Leafs stars play scared.
Didn't we stomp them 5-0 g1 last year? Don't think it has anything to do with that.

Entire team came out flat

I mean we can keep making changes trying to add more "toughness" the truth is this "core" ain't it. Look at Tampa down Hedman and Cernak and the best players took over. Point and Kucherov took over and Marner and Matthew's were ghosts other than a meaningless garbage time goal.

Something, something...the Leafs won Game 1 during the last playoff meeting between these teams and that victory didn't help much by the conclusion of said series. While a playoff series isn't won or lost after the opening game, it's still disheartening to have dropped this one at home. For the love of everything hockey, the Leafs "need" to be better on Thursday and win that game.

Please put Nylander with Mathews. You can load it up with Marner, or keep Calle there but Nylander really is wasted playing a slow game with JT. When Mathews and Nylander are playing Willy is the trigger man (and scores goals). I'm tired and losing series after series riding with Mathews and Marner together. Try something different Keefe (like sitting Holl).

Tampa used the exact same strategy as last year.
Use the Leafs lack of discipline and bait them to easy power plays.

"Bait them to easy powerplays" Those were f***ing brutal. The call on Kampf especially, should have been a penalty on Tampa, they choose not to call it while like 3 players mug McCabe on that shift, and then call that a f***ing slash

The only two goals I'm genuinely mad at the team for letting in were the first two A- which happened because of absolutely sloppy and unacceptable play.

The 4th also sucked because that PP for Tampa was questionable (at best each team should have had a guy in the box when it happened, but wasn't the case).

Vasy looked beatable for a decent chunk of the game. If they can avoid being goalies, that'll be a big bonus for the rest of the series

When you’re down 3-0 to start the redemption tour, it’s definitely no one else’s fault but your own. Is this the run when we accept who they are?

I actually really liked what I was seeing between the first two Leafs goals. The guys were moving the puck well and controlling play. That 4th goal against really just sucked the life out of them

Justin Holl was on the ice for 6 goals against lol
Yeah.....but they would have given up 15 goals if Justin Holl wasn't dressed. He saved the team at least 9 goals tonight........someone post some numbers with x's before them to tell us Holl is awesome.
