Did we get crushed last night? Yes
Is it concerning? Yes
Is it insurmountable? No

I wonder what the mood was on the Capitals board in 2018 when they dropped the first 2 games of the series to Columbus, at home.

Then, game 3 went to 2 overtimes for Washington scored. The capitals went form being one shot away from being down 3-0 in the opening series to Columbus, to winning the cup.

The playoffs are crazy and a lot can happen.
Not remotely comparable. The Caps have advanced to the 2nd round multiple times prior to their cup run.

Did watching last game not show you anything?Yet again Rielly is our best defencemen when the chips are down

Brodie was as advertised first year, but on a steadily decline since. Brodie is a solid #3, but he isn’t the best on our team.

That 4th goal is all on him going for a low iq play, and he gets beat by point leading to 4-2. These type of plays he goes for too much in the playoffs. He needs to be much better than he was last night
one game doesn't tell you much. For the last three seasons Brodie has had a demonstrable and noticeable negative effect on the quantity and quality of pucks directed on the Leafs' net. And Rielly.... has had the complete opposite.

Their defense WAR are 100% and 2%, FFS. Give yer head a shake.

I have heard enough evidence this morning to lineup with what I saw last night that I am tired of Keefe.

I honestly believe Dubas brought in the right pieces and Keefe is going to blow it.

I do not believe it is on Keefe to get them ready because at this point if the core can't be up for a game on their own then they never will be.

But his decisions are borderline ridiculous. Step the f!@$ up and sit Holl 70 seconds in when he doesn't smash Perry.
They tuned him out ages ago, we win in spite of him. When I watched All For Nothing and saw how he talked to motivate them, just profanity and cliches, I got worried. The press love him because he never stops talking, but he’s just a mediocre coach.

If the Leafs played a worse game during the regular season, I just don't remember it.

This was not on the goaltending.

This isn't on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th line.

This wasn't on any of the pairings nor any individual defensemen.

Everyone contributed, everyone! Your favourite player, his favourite player, they're favourite player, and all of your most hated players wherever the narrative falls. All share in the blame.

ROR seemed to be the only guy with his head on straight.

It's over and done with, get past it and get your heads in the game. The most important game of the season is coming up. Whining, passing and moaning isn't going to help, so toughen the f*** up, and move forward.

The notion that you had a better view than a television is laughable.
Even looking at xg% that were score and flurry adjusted 5x5, Marner and Matthews look ok. The problem is that you can't discern the differences between even strength and the significant short handed time with perfect memory given the adrenaline boost.
Your eyes and your recollection fail you.
Everything from shots on goal to expected goals does not support what you are saying. There isn't a hint in any number that would even suggest what you describe as true.
3 goals were scored by Tampa 5x5 and none of them were against that line.
Hockey guys don't need to assess any numbers .. it is all right in front of you .. you could watch Mitch swinging his arms coming back on backcheck (please Mitchy everyone in building saw da BS) .. and Matty trying to use edge work both with and without puck and falling all over ice avoiding hits and giving up pucks .. these 2 flat out just don't have enough speed to hang with either Point or Cirelli .. take a look closely at their technical strides and talk to Barb if you dare and she will tell you herself .. these issues have been around for over 15 years with both kids

That’s a bit disingenuous, the 2nd goal was partly on Marner for the flip pass, they brought the puck right in and scored, and he and his linemates were in a change

That line wasn’t awful, but they definitely weren’t “fine”. They, like the other lines, did squat when the game was in reach. They scored when it was 7-2. They should come out with much more urgency and need to finish more

No way, barring injuries. He doesn’t have much left.
Yeah, putting in Wayne would be a sign of desperation and would show that Cooper and the Lightning rat f*** players are getting into Keefe and the team's heads. As much as I'd like to see Wayne beat the shit out of Perry, Perry would never drop the gloves with him now anyways and they'd just goad Wayne into penalties probably.

6 straight first rounds exits. This is NOT comparable.
The goal is not the second round. The goal is the Stanley Cup. Here is the Caps playoff history with Ovi, prior to their cup.

2008 - out 1st round
2009 - out 2nd round
2010 - out 1st round
2011 - out 2nd round
2012- out 2nd round
2013 - out first round
2014 - missed playoffs
2015 - out 2nd round
2016 - out 2nd round
2017 - out 2nd round
2018 - cup

That's 10 YEARS of not being able to make it past the 2nd round, even once. What's worse, 6 years without making it past round 1, or 10 years without round 2? The answer is, both are terrible. And everything that is being said of the Leafs now, was being said of the Capitals then.

Let's say that in 3 of the past 6 years we made it to the second round but then lost. Are we really supposed to believe that anyone would be satisfied with that? The story would be "this team just can't get past the second round".

My point is simply that when the Columbus Blue Jackets took the first 2 games in 2018, people were like "here we go again, underachieving Capitals about to bow out in the playoffs, again". They flipped the script. It's possible. That's how they're comparable.

Wes McCauley calls Kampf who has 4 penalty minutes ALL year for cross checking with one hand on the stick. The one goal game is now a comfortable 2 goal lead.

It's called the TSN turning point.

Keep in mind Keefe testified in court against on behalf of McCauley's brother in law.
Fixed for you.

Both a result of hitting a guy from behind with your stick when he has the puck close to your net, because you lost position. Not necessarily blatant, but that's a situation where they get called.

Schenn didn't touch him with his stick.

Kampf, by the letter of the law, fine. It's awfully wishy washy though and a Tampa player did the exact same thing on the same play.

It is why stats guys live in their dads basement watching on their computer screens .. stats mean ZERO in hockey .. if you can't skate at SPEED and you don't compete for pucks then you are road kill in hockey nothing more nothing less even if you are skilled
Stats guys?
This stuff is pretty basic. I know generally what time of the day it is but I glance on my phone to give me an accurate time. I measure km distance through an odometer when I travel...instead of using my opinion give or take a few here or there. Rarely would I get challenged for the time or the distance if I use those 2 methods by a person who is trusting their unaided sense of time and distance. It's basic IQ that is a problem here.
You can play the role of a luddite or flat earther if you like but I have managed pretty well using all tools available. I live in my own mortgage free house...currently dropping over a quarter of a million bucks in renos, raised 3 children that are educated, productive, smart and athletic. I visit my aging parents occasionally. I own a number of my own computers so I don't have to borrow my fathers, who happens to live 35 minutes away.

Been alive and into hockey for well over half a century. Your smarmy appeal to your own authority seems at odds with your claim that you were even with friends. You seem a bit insufferable in your pompousness.
Piece of advice....buy a watch if you dont have a cell phone and want to know the accurate time. Nobody will think it's your dads.

Is it possible all of this has to go down so Woll can step into Game 3 and become the next Dryden, Roy?

I am losing it over here hoping for miracles

I agree with all of this except the JT thing. He might be a PPG player, but in the playoffs, we will get outplayed and outscored with him at center. He's a defensive liability and is slow as hell. He needs to be shielded. With the home ice advantage, Keefe can put him at center with Marner at wing and give him the easier matchups.
In TB, they will target him just like they did last year.

Nylander never should have been with JT though. Whether he's at wing or center doesn't matter. Those two don't play well together.

Keefe really screwed that game up.
It is sad. That in order to succeed in the playoffs we should have to shield our captain. Players that are slow and ineffective are removed from the line up with a stroke of the pen. Make any excuse on the injury report. This is called Addition by Subtraction....
