Read what I said:

"If the idea is to win a cup, they will have to do much more than the fancy stats.
They will need to play more and play better."

Also:

"One could argue that between the fancy advanced stats and traditional stats, that the following fits under that description:

Total team goals - 3
Total team goals against - 7
Total even strength goals against - 3.
Combined, the 2 players had:
0 goals, 5 assists, 5 points, 7 hits, 4 blocked shots, 4 takeaways, +2, 86% expected goals for at even strength and limiting their direct opposition consisting of the guy who scored 51 goals this season to an expected goals % of 15%.
Could they do better?
Yes.
Were they in any way responsible for losing this game?
Not in the slightest.

"

Please keep up.

At no point did I say they were not good.
I said that if the idea is to win the cup, they will have to play more, contribute more actual production than the advanced stats - thus being better.

You said they weren't good, which is categorically and emphatically wrong.

does the marner giveaway that led to the goal count in this or does it not count because he scurried off the ice in the nick of time after making that brutal giveaway?

Occasionally, stars do win it themselves and that's why they earn big playoff reputations. Isn't that the whole premise of a Big 4 is, that any one or two of them can go off and make a big difference?

Again, you're right the loss isn't on them at all and they played ok, but they need to be special.

our overpaid clowns NEVER do anything like that in the playoffs. the only thing we EVER get out of Dumb & Dumber is some stupid spreadsheet with XGF stats. and we're supposed to praise them and worship them for that bullshit while other stars score .. wait for it... GOALS.. multiple GOALS... key GOALS.

Reactions: Cleetus
Tampa scored 3 even strength goals.
Nylander was on the ice for 2 of them.

He was better than he's been most of the season, but he wasn't exactly"on" tonight.

1 power play goal, 4 total shots, 0 hits, 0 blocked shots in 16 minutes doesn't exactly scream good playoff game to me in terms of effort.

We have people like Cleetus saying that Matthews and Marner have to be better:

Matthews with 2 assists, 0 goals against, 5 hits, 1 blocked shot, 3 takeaways, 18 minutes played and:

Marner with 3 assists, 0 even strength goals against, 3 shots, 2 hits, 1 blocked shot in 22 minutes with 4:33 penalty kill.

I mean, can those players be better?
Yes.

Did they play poorly?

Not in the slightest.

The first one he only stepped on the ice after the puck was turned over and already in the Leafs end, and didn't have a chance to get in the play.

The second one he was the forechecker when they made the breakaway pass that split the D.

He was easily the best Leaf.

and the player who made the huge giveaway was marner the little rat got off the ice just in time

5 on 5 Corsi: 60% Leafs, 40% Tampa.

I think the Leafs could easily beat Tampa if the winner of the game wasn't actual goals scored, but expected goals for.
Hey, we win, we win, F me..... Love it! lol

What about expected playoff wins when Wes McCauley or whatever his name in Refs? Or expected penalties... Let's go, I need my cronies, too tired right now to do it myself.

They played a great second and decent third. And a terrible first. 7-3 is a deserved final score and yet does not reflect the totality of the game. To me, there is plenty to like going in to game 2. Can't afford to give away any more free periods, and I don't expect them to.

They knew the importance of tonight a full year ago.

They knew it was against the Lightning months ago.

They knew it was on home ice weeks ago.

...and they still showed up like that?

This series is long from over. But some of you have continually believed in this group of players. They've let you down in the past, and they're going to let you down again
