Sammy has been putting in the work, trending the right way and building trust. So when he went full Campbell tonight it was very disheartening to see it.
Leafs lost game #4 last year to Tampa Bay 7-3 where Campbell gave up 5 in a period and half of work so its not like this outcome tonight is foreign to this Leafs team in the playoffs.

Nylander absolutely has to be given the most amount of minutes, in the best possible situations for the rest of the series. He's the only one that actually looks like he's trying to sort shit out within the big 4.

Tavares is a waste of space in the playoffs. Disgusting signing.

Marner is absolutely mentally scarred by previous playoffs and is absolutely petrified.

Matthews generally loses faith in his linemates and tries to do it all himself. Honorable, but the wrong decision.

in other words they aren’t a team.. just a collection of players.

I wouldn't say Willy is #1.

If Matthews asks for 15 the only way the Leafs can say yes is if the Leafs win the Cup this year. I really don't believe Matthews does ask for that much.

You might have to shop all 3 and see what gives the greatest return and start from there

I've been commiserating with a buddy, listening to Caress of Steel through most of the game.

So...Being a man of Willowdale myself, I have a game related question:

So you're The Toronto Maple Leafs. Toronto, Ontario, Canada. NHL, etc, etc...RUSH is from Toronto...Listening to H&O in these circumstances is torture. The weirdo-kumbaya-fest has been fun and all, but can we please...

...PLAY MUSIC THAT SCREAMS WERE FROM TORONTO AND LOVE HOCKEY just ONCE more in our lame-ass demographic cultish appeasing existence?

Right!?

Subtle turning point of the game.

You hit someone already playing scared, big whoop. Dropping the gloves for a guaranteed powerplay is gritty playoff hockey, which he didn't do.
My favourite was the clear interference that allows Tampa to score and shift momentum back. That sure was a penalty last year, sometimes.

It’s been 7 years of this shit guys.

We lose this series and there has to be a rebuild.

There comes a time where you ave to cut your losses and come to the realization when a certain group of players have it and when they don’t. And Matthews, Marner, Nylander etc have proven time after time after time after time that they simply DO NOT have it come playoff time.
Is this you telling me to cut my losses and give up on this trash franchise and league? Cause I'm not sure why I or any of us are still here giving a shit.

Let's be honest, dzone coverage (with help from ZARs pass) let the leafs down to start and bunting (plus PK) let us down to put us fans out of our misery. On to game 2

The ZAR pass torpedoed them. Why a sandpaper energy guy is finessing a pass out to the feet of his teammate when his job is to get a clean out set the tone for the evening. Holl looking like he wasn’t sure he was supposed to be there in front of the net sealed the deal.

I understand that but that poster usually only comes on to attack other posters. He very rarely offers his opinion on anything.
I’m not ready to give up but you have to admit that it gets harder every year hoping and wishing it will be different. We hear them say after losing last year that it sucks, blah blah blah and then they come out like this tonight with a totally disgraceful effort.

Honestly, we played badly at the start, had good pushback, that Kampf call was deflating, and then the Bunting one sealed it (he deserved it).

I'm more annoyed they had no pushback and didn't try to punish Tampa more when the game was out of reach, they actually looked better than Tampa for the first half of the game.

Can anyone honestly say they were shocked by that result?

I'm not surprised when they win 7-3 and not surprised when they lose 7-3.

When someone or something tells you who they are, believe them.

What can you do but laugh?

That just about sums up my feelings on this game.

I don't think my expectations could have been lower, and I'll still immensely disappointed.

Matthews, Marner and Nylander NTCs kick in July 1st; everyone knows it. We won't have much leverage even if we try to blow it up
The best path to take is trade Matthews before July 1st for a boatload. Resign Willie for $9M, Marner for what he's making now. Fire that fraud Shanahan and that fraud Dubas, let the new GM reshape this whole thing.

What can it be, worse? lol

Matthews and Marner got owned?

What f***ing game were you watching?
the team got owned, Can you not read or something..... Marner and Matthews need to be better, pretty simple, the whole team as well. why are taking my post and mis reading it to call me out, be better, or block me

nylander goal followed by this powerplay gives us the momentum for the eventual win i think, instead different path happened.

Any lessons learned tonight or are we not doing that anymore?

I find it unfathomable that they came out and started the game like they did... our top guys have some sort of mental situation they are not able to overcome. Inexcusable to start a playoff series like that, especially when you know your opponent!

Despite that, loved the pushback in the second. I don't care if I ever see Bunting in a Leaf jersey again, dood can eff-off. Clearly does not know how to walk the line. I felt the call on Kampf was the game turner, there were a few similar plays right before that went uncalled. Tampa PP was running hot... and dumb penalties bite you in the ass.

I was also disturbed by the pre-season effort for the third period, considering Tampa was down to 4 D...

Felt like to me these losers know the gig is up for this core. Interested to see how they come out Thursday, but chasing the series is not in our best interest.

Sigh, and the beat goes on.

Also not sure why the hell Nylander is being taken off PP1? I understand that O'Reilly scored, but I would argue that when Willy is on, he is our best PP player. And he is always on in the playoffs.

Keefe galaxy brain BS like usual.
