Speed, or lack thereof from the backend if / when Holl McCabe Schenn are in the lineup at the same time will be a huge concern. Saw McCabe's lack of speed with my own eyes tonight. A pattern is emerging where we make the team much worse in our attempts to inject more physicality. I stand by my opinion we should have just went all in skill and chased guys like Kane after O'Reilly. We will actually be relatively the best in that department so we can get away with being softer than opponents. Now we're just tied skill wise and weaker in other areas compared to our first round (edit - playoff) opponents.

I mean, I really like McCabe from an isolated point of view, he's a dress-and-forget reliable bottom pairing D...was he the best move based on our team makeup and 1st round opponents?.....highly doubt that. This game sort of showed that. We didn't capitalize on the finishing touch after adding O'Reilly and the cash flow for trades evaporated into thin air on things we shouldn't have chased (Sandin counts as cash flow for trades).

(Let me be clear I want more physicality, I just don't agree with how we do it and the final outcome of the roster based on everything)

Aren't we now supposed to be back to a 3 headed monster down the middle?
Oh righ....Keefe did say something about that. The issue is(as someone just posted above) that you wont get much production as there isn't enough playmaking for whoever is on the 3rd. As long as JT and O'Reilly aren't together(both too slow) i think almost anything else is going to give us more balance.

We must have had a dozen attempted seam passes picked off in the neutral zone tonight

one game. Flush and move on. But ick it was not fun to watch.

the problem is the coaching right now. The Holl obsession must end.

Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days

Don’t really have the wingers for that third line

Kerfoot - Oreilly - Lafferty?

You’d better not expect more than 40 point from oreilly then
Particularly come playoff time, that'd be my concern about playing a former Conn Smythe winner at 3C. Doing so seems like it'd be either a sign of enviable forward depth or mismatched lines. My worry obviously lies within the latter being closer to accurate.

Almost didn't watch this one. Stopped after period 1. The giddiness in the pregame thread for a bunch of "gud pro" depth additions gave me a bad feeling. Why did we think 4th liners and a 4th defencemen would change this teams identity? They're marginal improvements in less criticial sectors.

We needed speed and scoring SKILL on the LW. Same thing we've needed for 4 years. Our third line is still a big useless blob of nothing. Kerfoot and Holl are still on the team.

I hope Dubas has another move planned, but who out there can move the needle now?

I'm not overreacting to one game here. I felt the same way yesterday. If dropping Engvall and Sandin for a couple #7 dmen was really Dubas' last move I'm baffled. Holding out hope for a serious talent injection to our middle 6 before Friday.

Also Matthews should be embarrassed after this one. Get off the blow or get over the ex-girlfriend or whatever the f*** it is already.

There's no reason for Holl and Schenn to both dress. McCabe is more or less replacing Sandin, who was far from a speedster himself. Gustafsson is presumably the guy to inject speed and skill on the blue line but uhhhh he has some issues, to say he least.

Then again there's also no reason for Rielly to be playing with anyone besides Brodie and Liljegren, but here we are.

Remember that time when all the boys went out fishing in the ocean sun before the game against the Panthers? And got their asses handed to them? I guess that they never learned anything from that.
