They were running around and not playing good defense. That was 90s style hockey and while entertaining, there is a reason that teams don't play that style anymore. You can be not soft, land some hits, and still play sound positional hockey.
They hadn't allowed a shot until the 2 on 1 so I wouldn't say they were not playing well.

I do think they got caught up trying to prove they were going to be physical instead of just playing and letting it happen.

We did see, and I hope and pray Keefe comes up with a plan, that Bos will and does turn the puck over frequently in their own end with a hard forecheck thrown at them.

The Leafs will have to hit hard, but stop raising their sticks while doing so if the PK is going to be trash

It doesn't matter how embarrassing we play, many will forgive them or compose reasoning as to why we deserved to win if we could have a redo. Sure, Reaves made a costly mistake

I applaud the positivity.

We had 1 goal from Kampf which is a mulligan from the Reaves error.

Was there any offense from the top 9 forwards? We either overcome obstacles or we lose. There is no chart or rhetoric that would make me unsee some really poor hockey from the leafs last night. They had momentum to start the 1st and 3rd. Is that deserving enough to win 60 minutes? It's not.

Our 2nd line was invisible and Matthews had jitters.

I love the positivity. I really do, but it's not just the results; it's how they're playing that's insanely concerning. They looked utterly hopeless. Let's see how this next one goes. They can't possibly be this bad again, can they? We shall see.
All we can do is wait and see, but the reaction last night was pretty much identical to the reaction after game 1 last year. I expect that they will come back with a stronger effort in game 2.

We killed our speed to add grit. It's a misguided understanding of what this team was actually lacking
You need guys who can do both .. domi is fine .. matty is fine .. both can skate and play with grit .. line 1 played a very even gane against bruins except for 2 stupid penalties .. but we require that line to beat bruins by 2 goals net per game .. this line can clean up their game in game 2 .. but can lines 2 and 3 .. i think without willy and mccann we are doomed here .. those 2 add so much speed that we missed last night

Ya, good luck with that.

Which is completely unacceptable. He's been given team-friendly contracts for a long time and he's underperformed in the postseason relative to his regular seasons for a long time.

He needs to play better and he's long since run out of excuses.

I wouldn't take much from the third period. Boston stopped caring about trying to score and it showed in the possession numbers.

I don’t think this series should’ve started until Monday. Why do some teams get the advantage of rest and don’t play until Monday but we don’t.

Bottom like jt is a good kid and he tries his best all da time .. but bottom line is HE CANT KEEP UP when playoffs start and picks up 10 percent .. it is same with mitch .. folks these 2 as i have been telling you for years as i coached and watched them both for a couple decades they dont have da speed andor the grit to play without speed .. only chance keefer has is to stick them on 3rd line and limit minutes .. but he cant because shannys and tavareses are family friends for decades
I have zero doubt JT isn’t giving his best, the other “superstars” not so much. Everyone knew the final years of JT’s deal would suck, and now were dealing with it………..

Keep doing this and the goals will come.

Chicoutimi
shot 36 vs 24
scoring chance 38 vs 21
high danger chance 20 vs 8 ( only 2 on 2 and 3rd period)

and people reacting like Boston outplayed leafs and leafs wqs totally trash.

When you goalie gave up 3 weak goal, it will always be hard to build momemtum, put pressure on opposite team and win. The best save on that game leafs had came from the post.

I said it last summer if leafs didn't made move as goalie than Woll would be leafs only chance for a run. Samsonov gave up some hope with his game last 2 month but this Samsonov is the o e who been cleared of waiver. I just dont understand why keefe still keeping samsonov after the 3rd goal and 4th goal

We have not scored a 1st period goal against Boston this season, 5 games. 1 goal in last 3 games.

Yup let's continue to invest in the 3 amigos.

What we need to do is overpay Marner and give him a NMC. The leafs have a proven track record. The biggest loser in all of pro sports. Now go vote for Trudeau again and sniff some more glue. This team is garbage and was misbuilt by a child who never played hockey. That was pathetic. The marlies could do better.

I give Domi credit for trying but he let him emotions get the better of him, similar to Kadri. If he does it n game two, are we going to exile him?
It showed they don’t understand intimidation and tough hockey. Low IQ players.

Domi is too important to exile. Matthews needs him. I don't give us a great chance in this series but it gets worse without Domi.

Too many penalties, no timely saves, their goalie was a solid wall in tight. That's your game.

I thought we were quite competitive actually, clean up a few things, we should be fine. It's all how we respond tomorrow. Going home 1-1 was always the goal, so I'll reserve ultimate judgement until Monday night.

Big guns, I liked a lot of Marner. I don't think they scored when he was on the PK and he was quite effective on the boards too. That said, not very dynamic or aggressive either. His line mates weren't a factor as well

Matthews line was just okay as well, he gets the puck and looks to dish immediately, take that huge frame and drive my man, you're unstoppable when determined.

Didn't mind Holmberg, made nice today plays in tight and I thought Robertson was disruptive.

Reaves makes an error, but otherwise the fourth line was very good all night, owning the boards and cycling really well. Liked Dewar and Kampf was effective.

I start Woll tomorrow, Sam's swimming routine makes me nervous, his body language was fighting the puck and lots of mesh available. Calm down or get out.

It's a long series, so I don't know why we jump off the ledge after one game.

Mitch is too .. even though his dad torpeod coaches mitch is a happy kid who always tries .. when playing best on best in a fast game he has struggled through middle of ice his entire life .. everyone who has coached him knows da issue .. he pulls up at blue line and waits for other guys .. it is his only play because he cant open up ice himself by himself with speed .. same issue with jt except 10 times worse

Same story every year. You guys keep pointing to all these chances we generate and blame the goalies and it never seems to dawn on you that maybe, just maybe our highly paid forwards who are eating up all the cap yet can't seem to convert their chances might be the problem.

We are masters at making opposing goalies look like superstars.
