Tre focused on a quick strike offense at the cost of a defensively aware forwards and PKers. We struggled all night defensively with poor puck movement from the D and bad wall management from the wingers, then had 2 PP goals against us. It hurt our ability to sustain pressure and kept us in our end

It's not all on him as Marner and Tavares weren't good and I thought Rielly struggled, but a lot of the roster construction was on display tonight

My problem with that is it wasn’t even a game to start with. At the very top I saw zero star player contributions, weak goaltending early and often, leaky special teams and disconnected transition game. All the parts you cited weren’t good. But the core of the team is the problem for me.

As much as this start sucks arse, I believe your Boys will be back.

This is far from over.

The organization? Perhaps but highly unlikely. This iteration? Not a chance.

I've been optimistic in the past. But this pattern is so undeniable that to think a different outcome is on the horizon would be irresponsible.

This is a team that has enough emotional gain during the regular season as Leafs, that the adrenaline dump felt between seasons, and of having to exceed it for the playoffs, is akin to a fighter having to fight again after his fight. There's just nothing there.

Hoping Nylander provides a spark. Why? No idea really.

Dubas effed this club in so many bad ways we are still struggling eventhough his stupid as was fired. It will take at least a couple years to undo at least some of the damage that pos has wrecked on the Leafs.

Leafs are handcuffed until Tavares is off the cap anyway.

They should just let the kids play and gain experience and run out the clock until tavares is off the cap. time for a proper anti-dubas re-tool. gotta do it right and with patience.

We need more "snot".

I thought we had enough to win in the playoffs, but not looking like it.

there wasn't a single positive to take from tonight's game. Not ONE.

Aside from a few minutes of pressure to start the 3rd this team did sweet f* all for the other 57 minutes.

There is NOTHING positive they can draw upon from this one. Every single one of these flowers were utterly invisible tonight.

We all knew they weren't winning this series and that they were going to get pummeled again but WOW even tonight shocked me... I knew they were going to blow this but holy f* I din't know it would be as bad as it was... this was game #83 of the season and it was the worst game of all 83 they've played so far.. they saved their best for game #1 of the playoffs
At least we aren't a guy like Dangle that has to do this for a living....so there's that.

In fairness part of the core was missing tonight and he's our best transition player.

Goaltending was awful, but special teams was also built to struggle - at least the PK. Throughout the year we also added players who struggle with transition like Boosh and Edmunson. As good as Benny has been, it's not his strength either, which led to less time and options for our better players.

I thought Matthews was decent, needed more from Mitch and Tavares like I mentioned.

I think we do. But Sammy took the wind right out of the sails tonight. We know him being shaky would be the difference. So If we do the boys do too.

Instead of shrinking... they should be stepping up though. Protect your shaky goalie. They just sulked.

It's probably not a good sign when Ryan Reaves is getting more points than your "star" players in playoff games.

All around I'm just disgusted by how this team has been playing for 2-3 weeks. The goaltending and defence is putrid. Once again some of the highest paid players in the league are no-shows in the playoffs, why am I not surprised? Not to mention Nylander with his mystery injury..... what an absolute disaster.

Start thinking of the next wave.

This group doesnt have it. Going back to that habs series theyve been a joke the whole time.

Treliving and WES has to draft really well next few years.
with what picks ?

Dubas traded most of the high ones and the core will be well into their 30's by the time ant late picks that pan out can help

the scary thing was... Boston isn't even that good. They didn't look like some kind of a dominating powerhouse team either... they're just up against a low p***ycat roster like the Leafs so a 5-1 win against such a loser team is just routine.

Lol the whole thing's a big joke. Keefe is done, our goalies are done, half the team is done.

Shanahan might also be done too. Actually more than just "might". This is now a FULL DECADE of comedy for this guy here in Toronto. He's toast too.

Wow. The reality here is that this team is about to be Mr. Cleaned right out of here and next season is going to look entirely different.

Big fire sale this Summer? Clearance event?

This team is finally finished

Forget points...looked more effective in general lol.

Expected goals work the same way that smoking increases your chances at lung cancer.

Over a large sample size, the actual results trend towards normalizing with the expected rate of incidence.

In smaller sample sizes, the results vary wildly, but given a large enough sample, expected and actual results are always similar.

I get how it could be difficult to understand though.

My 9 year old probably wouldn't understand either.

The other explanation is it’s a fairly simplistic model, a team with a massive lead is going to concede more shots, yada yada.

I thought we had enough to win in the playoffs, but not looking like it.

Holmberg, Robertson, Dewar, Knies, Liljegren, Beniot, (soon: McMann), Woll, etc....

how much "playoff experience" do you think they have? Treliving knew exactly what he was doing at the TDL. Go watch his post GM's meeting interview. Its pretty telling that he was already looking forward to the summer. I'd ahve done the same thing. I would have actually gone a step further to force Keefe to scratch Tavares, Brodie, Gio, etc.... pretty much anyone who are not in Leafs' future plans.

Time to be patient a bit. Kids gotta learn some playoff hockey. Nobody is a "champ" right out of the gate. There was time to be patient with matthews, marner and nylander with a proper rebuild. But that trash dubas ruined it by signing tavares among other dumbass moves including throwing away draft picks for 1st round exits.

Really too many things to point out and I think it starts with Keefe
Bert needs to be on PP1 instead of JT.
Why was Calle on PP1?
MM and JT needs to start clicking or maybe put Knies and Robbie with JT bc last time he plays with young guns, he was actually effective.
MM needs to be a lot better, don’t understand why he just could skate with the puck for more than 3 strides.

I am not sure the amount of snot is the problem, it is knowing when to use it.

Leafs looked like clowns in the first period trying to prove they had snot, not stopping to think if it made sense in that moment.

Controlled snot is where it's at.

I've said this before, and I still believe it... it is good that we now initiate physicality, but our ability to play through it has not improved one iota imo.
