He’s slashed a .915 / 2.75 over the past 5 years.
I really don’t get what people expect from goaltenders in the NHL, it’s just really hard to win Stanley Cups and it’s about a lot more than goaltending.
You can say all the goalies who haven’t won cups in the past 5 years haven’t performed when the pressure is on.
Also, the pressure isn’t on right now, Leafs could chunk another few games before it gets super serious.
He literally stops 2 extra shots tonight and the narrative is wildly different, that’s how fickle it is. I’m not a Freddie fan per say, and I hope Campbell does prove himself and take over long term, but Andersen is not our main problem unless this keeps up. He was fine last playoffs, he gave us a chance to win, as he likely will again.
He was .936 / sub 2 GAA last playoffs with a defensive unit everyone agrees was shaky. I don’t know how you can possibly ask for more than that.
Just my 2 cents of course, but my perspective is that all you can ask for from your goalie is a shot to win, and outside of a few admittedly bad games in the past week or so, he’s consistently given the Leafs a shot at winning, even if he does have his quirks like soft first goals for whatever reason.
