I actually felt very comfortable the Leafs would find a way to tie it even when the Isles booted it out with 25 seconds left and Nylander had to go retrieve.

Felt pretty good about it but got then notification the Leafs lost the game 4-3 in OT.

Leafs always leaving a bit of a sour taste.

I'll just add another Sammy was horrible comment to the massive pile. Team needs to be near perfect defensively, allowing NO high danger chances in the game, in order to have a chance to win.
Don't know what the problem is with Sammy - does Western psychological therapy work on Russians? Because I think Sammy has some issues

Name that star

Hm, I thought Samsonov was pretty good. Made the big saves when needed. Team was a disaster in front of him for most of the first and early in the second.
Idk, the first and third goals were pretty unscreened shots from the top of the circles. He got saved by a couple of posts, as did Sorokin, but he didn’t make nearly any saves as Sorokin. Samsonov’s most difficult saves were some screened point shots or the julien gauthier cut.
We definitely were not good in the 20 minutes spanning from the last 10 of the first to first 10 of the second, but you could easily say the same about the islanders. We were the better team through the first 10 minutes and last ten minutes, rest of the game was split. We generated a ton more and actually put the puck on the net, the islanders got zone time and had barzal skating around the ice in circles trying to find someone open. Sorokin stopped point blank shots from Matthews, Gregor and Jarnkrok

Matthews has become such a loser, having him give up the GWG in overtime has become normal. Highest paid player in the league got banned from starting OT in favor of Kamp last season because he couldn't stop blowing it on the first shift.

No, we weren't... we were outplayed for portions of the game and outplayed them for portions, like most games.

It was a fine game, but no team dominated.
Agree, each team had segments of momentum. Good hard fought game I thought. Sorokin was the difference in the end, but cannot complain about the effort or battle.

OT, which I dismiss as nonsense, looked the same as always. Someone in a Leafs jersey f***ing the dog on a backcheck.

Need help on the blueline and for Sammy to see a sports psychologist. Guy's mentally broken. Sigh.

The unpredictability and unreliability of Sammy is probably why we were able to get him for free. Washington must have been pretty fed up with him after a couple of years of up and down, hot stretches, breakdowns, etc.

Soon Martin Jones will be giving a run for his money with normal, predictable goaltending.
Martin Jones is a better goalie at this point, I’d feel more comfortable with him in.

I’m convinced Samsonov can’t perform in this market. He’s too busy in there, and busy goalies lack confidence and focus.

The effort from the team was pretty good overall but didn't sound like they were able to build off the momentum of the Nashville game. Which is the Leafs in a nutshell.

I don't know how much of a believer I am of momentum between games, and especially on the first game of a road trip. Obviously was pulling for the win, but it was an honest effort.

Rielly does his usual clutch moment heroics, gets us a point himself, and there's half a dozen posts about how he defended in OT? He's our goat and has actually been much better at defending this season. He is what he is, and that's a god damn great hockey player and game changer who always always shows up when it matters most.
