There was a guy at the start of the season who was actively saying that leafs had a top 3-5 defense…where is that guy?!?! His name was like @vico or something…

The Bruins are 8 and 1. They traded for Taylor Hall, gave up a 2nd and a no name. Then signed with the Bruins for 4 years at 6million a year.

Dubas trades our first and a 4th for Foligno in a 3 team trade. Foligno plays 11 games for us, then signs as FA with Boston. LOL

And people wonder what the problem is?????

It should be obvious to everyone that this team as constructed has no chance of competing for a cup.
Missing the playoffs would almost guarantee a change in management and get them a lottery pick.
I hope that happens.

If we are judging based on the start of this season, then we need a complete rebuild with Matthews and Marner both out the door because they have been the biggest and most consistent disappointments by far.

Marner had the one assist and another good short-handed chance, but that was the entire contribution from anyone on that top line today.

It is not surprising that a team which is getting very little out of their core players is not able to win many games right now... Short of not having a lot of good core players to begin with, which is clearly not the case for us.

Babcocks time was up, it looks like Keefes is as well. Both are/were trying to get something out of these stars that hasnt clicked here.

We'll likely lose a Marner/Matthews/Nylander in the process now too

Matthews, Marner and Nylander are looking very badly in the harsh light of 2022-23. Not sure I'd rush to any rash decisions but man, they've created more doubts than ever before.

Oof.

Does it feel for anyone else that on some days the biggest achievement this regime will manage to accomplish is simply staying cap compliant? Or just me?

Not a great moment.

Well I can retire from starting GDTs for a bit.

Wtf are the Leafs doing?

Some changes need to happen. Most of these guys don't give a shit.

I'll just leave it there.

Not saying that it is the only problem, but this team doesn't make the playoffs if this is what we get from him this year.

Fortunately, that almost certainly will not be the case.

The Leafs are the 4th oldest team in the NHL and they look and play like it.

They look slow and teams are constantly winning all the puck battles and Leafs just hanging on.

We're not really really that old. The team just skews that way because we have a 39 year old and some past prime guys jacking up the average. Plus their extreme immaturity proves they're young at heart.

Sometimes I watch other games and if ever the opposing team takes a run at one of the other teams young guys or star players, there is often an immediate response. Someone on the team steps up. With the leafs, that never happens. It’s open season on anyone. There is Zzero toughness on this team!!
It happened in Winnipeg. Who took a run at anyone today? I get frustration, but this is an odd take after the game today.

Dubas' mistakes started a few years ago when he went away from his core principles and traded Kadri, started bringing in grit instead of skill and focused more on playoff success instead of stats/skill for goalies.

Not to mention the complete lack of a "swing for the fences" type move.

A real shame.
This team is the opposite of gritty.
