Those 2 .5 PPG seasons you mentioned are irrelevant, Pastrnak made the league in his draft year because he was too good for the AHL at 18, Nylander wasn't even in the NHL for those 2 seasons except for 20 games in the 2nd year.

Nylander was beating sundin in the SEL

Babcock won't last the season. They can't waste this season. Babcock is part of the problem. He can't get this team to play with any good structure.
the "structure" is absolutely fine

the roster is "VERY FLAWED" and our so called big guns are playing like crap

I don't think it's the effort level with Marner, it just seems like his hockey iq dropped about 50 points this season. He makes multiple blind passes a game now, and most are easily intercepted. I don't remember him ever doing that before. He also seems to be taking weak wristers now in situations where he would have found the pass before.

love me some fired up skeletor!

am seriously getting sick and tired of the same BS.

we had the worst team; jerseys were thrown on ice; salute gate. we clean that up - rebuild; draft high

try to build a culture; then this joke of a GM bendsover and gives up ridiculous AAVs and not even get 8 years.

no other GM in the entire league has been bentover like dubas

the f***ing schedule wasn't debated by the f***ing management we play back to back with the divisional rivals all the time; no f***ing cap to have decent back-up; now when the LTIR guys come back we run a 21 man roster

with the way this team is trending can you blame me for being pissed off.

been waiting for the Leafs to do well; forever; just getting so sick of this BS.

The Leafs are not a very good team. There is no sense of urgency, whatsoever and they play without passion up a goal or down a goal. O’Dog speculated on the radio that there may be a dressing room problem the way they are playing - if that’s the case - I’m guessing it has something to do with Barrie.

Something has to give real soon and I’m not so sure I want Beta making the changes.

Pittsburgh won two cups with Kessel one of their best players. He was the poster child for what people consider "not a player you win with."

Guess where Boston was when they were at this stage of their current build?
Boston's build was just a different model than ours, you can't compare them IMO

Remember all those teams under JFJ, Burke, Nonis and how we were a league wide laughing stock? Well THIS management group and its players take the cake.

If anyone has been around long enough you will have seen teams quit on their coaches.
Well, this is what it looks like.

I've been watching since '84.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I cannot remember a team that "quit on their coaches" like apparently this one has.

But I don't believe the team has quit on their coach.

That is irrelevant though.

What team in the past has quit on their coach to the degree our players (apparently) have? And what did that team do to get past it?

We could use it as a learning experience.

The problem is, these players have always been lazy in their own end. There's at least one goal a game it seems where the opposition just skates
away from his defender who's standing still trying to poke check. They've always played lazy. Maybe that is Babcock's fault.

The bad thing about these overpayments is they can't even get a back-up goalie that's capable of winning games while Andy is resting...wtf is that? Is the back-up goalie not important and not part of the team that he can't even afford an extra million to get one? The only reason Barrie is able to fit in the roster is because Sakic swallowed half of his current salary...Dubas is doing some major juggling because of his overpayments...he better be praying day and night that Sandin and Lily with their ELCs will be ready to play in the NHL next season...the defense will have a major overhaul after this season...and one of Johnsson and Kapanen might have to go if Mikheyev is getting resigned. Does this sound like a winning recipe to you? Do Matthews and Marner play goal and defense too?
The best goalie tandem is prob Gisbon/Miller. The Ducks are lucky he wants to be in Cali. I guess money and situation are both important to securing a solid back-up. Juggling will be difficult on next years overhaul, but at least you have assets to trade.

One season at 70pts vs 2 at 60pts is still not a terrible comparison to make. I'm not even saying that Nylander was as good as Pastrnak before he signed his contract, but they were definitely in the same player groupings.

I am also not saying that they are the same level of player today. They are obviously not.

how is it fine? Leafs are 20th in point percentage, 18th in xgf% at 5v5 (24th in all situations), and 22nd in high danger% at 5v5 (25th in all situations). in terms of corsi sure it's fine, but I don't care if the leafs are good at missing the net and getting shots blocked as they get absolutely murdered in dangerous areas of the ice and keep losing games

So many people to blame but Dubass takes the cake. Nice trade to pick up Barrie. Can't stand him and his smug smile with his stupid ass glasses

When you ask to be paid like the best players in the league, you better play like it when you go head to head against the best.

Marner and Matthews were downright dominated and embarrassed. Boys vs men out there without a guy like Tavares to help them out.

Hope they learn from this. Otherwise we're in trouble.

twice embarrassed by the same team in the playoffs; in the league for 3 years now; you wanted to get paid and you got paid and then some (signing bonuses) by the gm

learning is over; its time to show effort on ice

Kessel was good for the Leafs during their playoff series.
