Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 4-1

I am not watching that shit if it goes to Game 7. My heart just can't take it anymore. I would want to live a little longer and enjoy life with what little I can.

Losing 4-1 is one thing but it's how we lost that annoys me. Matthews, Marner and Nylander playing the game from the perimeter. Pasta, Marchand and DeBrusk skate around all night mostly untouched. Besides McMann, Reaves and maybe Benoit/McCabe we played soft as butter. Can't beat teams like the Bruins if you play with no heart.

When does our defense look good?

When something bad has happened (like Rielly being suspended) and our forwards decide they have to put in some work to help them out, holding up forecheckers, getting back quickly and picking up trailers into our zone

When does our defense look bad?

When the forwards don't give an effort and let forecheckers attack our defense unmolested, they don't get back and just let guys skate around doing whatever the hell they want

The defense wasn't great but if that's the help there going to get nobody is going to succeed back there

Yep when the big forwards mail it in the whole system suffers. Just inexplicable how they play Boston, a possible first round matchup and they just sleepwalk like that. Reminds me of a couple of those Lightning games late in season where you think they'll try to make a statement and then get blown out.

1. Take time and space away
2. Play physical
3. Clog neutral zone
4. Try to make entries hard and keep them to the outside they will never dump and chase
5. Wait for them to turn over the puck because they will force passes as there are no clean looks b/c Leafs don't work the puck up to the points for point shots
6. intercept the puck on transition and score on the Leafs because forwards ain't gonna backcheck hard enough

Rinse and Repeat!

I would have thought all the learning is done now and its time to "execute plays"

Statement game and the big boys decided not to start on time. Some things don’t change. If Matthews and Marner don’t feel like playing in big games then we’re f***ed. We were moribund on the power play again. The entire team was off and looked intimidated. Where were the big hits to ignite the team. Disappointing how we started and competed.

They aren't allowed to play that way. Keefe is suppressing that aspect of the game because he is afraid of getting called òn penalties. There was zero aggression out of this group from everyone top to bottom. They don't know how to play the game the way it is meant to be played to win. Too many looky Lous. Guys like Liily, McMann, Holmberg kamf etc etc (all the marlies) are not difference makers. Fillers.
Don't waste assets at TDL , this team is not it.

Thought team played decent, thought Boston was opportunistic today in comparison to us. But like what most are saying, Boston played us harder tonight and didn't give us a lot of ice and that was the difference.

In saying that, our 2nd line is getting caved in, I can't see Keefe going with that line in the playoffs if that's what its going to look like.

The Leafs big boys do not have the same hatred of losing. To the Bruins, the Leafs are a hated opponent who they love to get up and play against. To the Leafs, the Bruins are the same as any other opponent on a sleepy Monday night game. They simply do not care on the level that other teams do. It's always been that way and after 7+ years, I'm no longer expecting it to change. They are what they are.

A disappointing game. Yes, they’ve been on a hot streak and played some hard fought hockey, look to their last against the Rangers, but this was a ‘statement’ game and they came out flat. I don’t hold this one against Woll. Sure, a save or two more would have been nice, but JW was not the reason we lost. Our best players were not the best tonight, and it wasn’t close. Until, and I am tired of saying it, our best provide their best efforts against the better teams in the league, we cannot be considered legitimate contenders. Our game in Boston, for me, determines whether Brad attempts to bolster the team. Either Matthews, Marner and Nylander show a spark that was absent tonight, or I stand pat.

Rangers didn't protect the middle of the ice well enough IMO as leafs got easy entries and Leafs also allowed easy entries to the Rangers. It was a goalie showdown where goalies made some huge saves.

I don't think you can compare that game to tonight where the score4 were mostly kept to the outside there weren't many clean looks either

This is where I have some real nostalgia for knuckle dragging old time hockey. If someone wants to take away your time and space, you take away their health. Winners simply cannot be boxed out of a game and shunted into the L column easily.

I get where you are coming from, but that game is gone. What isn't gone is effort. The Leafs best lacked that tonight.

You won’t have to watch lol, just check the score and you’ll be able to tell the story of the game

Woll/Samsonov let in the worst goal a leafs goalie let’s in to date to some scrub 4th liner

Coyle/Debrusk will score a nice shot

They’ll get a pp goal

Someone will get one back for us before Marchand and Pastrnak pile on the empty net goals

Liljegren is a kind of D you'd gladly staple a first round pick and other sweeteners to another team for a comparable defenseman in age who was brought up in a different program, has a more competitive personality. He has his good traits, his skills look like they haven't been fully tapped but talk about another nice quiet guy personality who was developed in our skills only developmental system, who is going to have his lunch money stolen in a big game.

liljegren is kind of player who can raise his game for 5-10 games where he looking great, giving hope hebwill finally become the top 4 dman everyone hoping for... and next 10-20 playing like acrap and cost game like it was the game tonight. He was completly useless on goal #2 3 and 4...

thats why im always compared liljegren to dermott, it was the same thing with him.

I'm hearing what you're saying and by no means defending the triplets but reverse the situation. Can you imagine our top guys going against our defense? They would score 6 every game. Other teams forwards help in the defensive zone ours look to counter punch with a quick breakaway. I'm convinced this is a coaching decision and strategy.

Now that the game is over and the emotion gone, I remember that the Leafs have beaten a lot of good teams over the past 20. They can toss this one out with a way better effort against Bos Thu, after hopefully winning Wed.

Dal, Win x2, Col, Veg, NYR were all legit wins and good efforts. Hopefully this is a one off and they come back strong.

Still hoping for a 3-1 week
