For sure. This was just one game of an 82 game warmup for the real season, best not to get too up or down after any one game. Win game 1 of the playoffs and every bad regular season loss will be wiped from memory. Same goes if we lose game 1 - if that happens, will anyone care how many regular season goals Matthews scored? My optimistic self knows that regular season head to head results are meaningless when looking ahead to playoff success, so time to move on
That said, it's well established what this team is - for seven years in a row, they've played well above average during the regular season followed by sub .500 hockey in the playoffs. That being the case, there are limits to how optimistic I can be about what this spring will bring. How does that saying go? Fool me once, twice, three times, four times, five times, six times ... I think that's when I finally decided that I won't be fooled again but I would love to be pleasantly surprised. We'll see what happens.
