I've liked Sandin for years. Then this year I saw him regress instead of progress. Whiffing passes in his own zone numerous times. Still gets knocked off the puck probably more than he should. I admit I was wavering. After tonight, I'm back on board. LOVE how he stood for #34. More of this from everyone please. For everyone.

Yeah good on him for stepping up. He might want to spend a little time with Simmonds or he’s going to get hurt.

It's usually easier to blame the goalie or the last man back on defense than to question why our star power is so bad in OT. Or even more generally, why is it that when they have these rough patches at specific things it always snowballs into some kind of mental block. You know they'll be running through the season with this massive OT psychology now.
Feels like we should blame the forwards for their issues and the goalie for theirs, no?

Matthews and Nylander were pretty bad creating. Kallgren allows a pretty mediocre strong side shot with no real pass option to beat him.

The big difference is a goalie blunder costs you a goal, a forward blunder costs you opportunities

Kallgren deserves the biggest kick in the ass for the Marty Brodeur impression that turned into the 2-2 goal, but for a third stringer who shouldn't really be in the NHL, who made that save on the Nylander turnover, who made 30 plus saves, I try to show a bit of restraint.

Problem with the big guns lately isn't really that they aren't creating. It's when they open up they seem to be clueless as to a) where the net is and b) extremely unfocused taking the puck there c) making plays with limited upside while not recognizing risk. It's like they're playing with creativity and stupidity, but sometimes passes for high IQ.

What happened as I left the house when the score was 2-1?

Watching Vegas and Nucks live and Stone is really good

when its all on the line this team just cant seem to get it together, whether its the playoffs or OT, whether next goal or next game wins, they make too many mental mistakes. ye kallgren screwed up, but that display by our "stars" in OT is much more concerning. im so tired of the careless turnovers, whether it leads to a loss or not, its not winning hockey.

Can we try a different AHL’er? Please? For the love of God, please!!!

😂 you’re right. The Zamboni driver only allowed one goal.

Kallgren gives us a unique blend of shaky but decent goaltending. Probably worth a look to see what Petruzzelli can do at some point though, hope it's not because of injuries though (knock on wood).

Their psychology in "big" moments makes me think of when you're a kid playing the boss level and you grip thee controller too tight, sweaty palms and you fall in the lava pit, unforced error. It's fear of screwing up overriding all your good judgement, all your normal instincts and skill level.

Thought the same, they played well but you have to score more.

The Islanders are also built to win these kind of ugly 1 goal, good break kind of games though. The amount of garbage, nothing time they generate is astounding. That elite board scrumming even though they were in the offensive zone in the last minute of play... Noah Dobson flubbing the puck at the blueline in the first, only to completely bail on the puck just to gallop back into defensive position. The risk aversion is breathtaking.

 Yeah they aren’t a very impressive looking team, Leafs threw a point away tonight that game should really have been close.

Nearly perfectly executed road game, on home ice.

The better team lost this one. Poor play by Kallgren to put his defence in an un-defendable position. Yet another OT with no shots or even attempts for.

Snipe shot by Beauvillier for the winner. Could have been stopped, but let's be honest, if one of our guys scored that we'd be commending the shot.

We probably do win that one with our #1 or #2 in goal.

All things considered, with our 3rd stringer in net and down our 3 best dmen, we did alright.

Still lots of passengers on that bottom 6 - I wish any one of them would be scratched for Simmonds in games against teams like the Islanders.

He made 21 saves on 24 shots with 2 weak goals to end it.

I was only half paying attention in OT, but from what i saw they didnt open up enough. Matthews didn't try to make a play off the opening sequence, Nylander made two throwaway passes and we lose with our shutdown pair on the ice off a pretty meh chance

Well said. Kallgren kept us in it. I hate saying it but he did.

OT is always a 50/50 but wow, it’s the same lack of attention these guys always have.

Nylander and Matthews usually a lot better and Marner has to stop being a fancy boy on his plays. For every 1 that works, 6 or 7 lead to goals and dangerous chances.

As I mentioned. Maybe this is what happens, when you actually learn to play D as a team. You momentarily forget the creative hustle.

Hope they figure it out by playoffs. Long season still.

1 point. Cool.

Go leafs!!!
