I am not saying that Matthews should be traded, but doesn’t he have an NMC in the last year of his contract that kicks in on 1 July or something?

Meaning, unless you sign him to an extension BEFORE that, or whenever the NMC goes into effect, you really gotta believe he will stay at a kabillion dollars per year, and then be RIGHT Or he MUST be traded.

Yaaa, I don't think the Leafs are going to get lucky with a Tkachuk quality player being available because he doesn't want to sign with his team.
He wanted to go to Florida and demanded the trade. If they dont turn it around, the Leafs need to consider moving Matthews and Nylander.

Tampa went to the Cup finals in 2015 which was Stamkos' 7th season and Kucherov's 2nd. Ovechkin posted 11 goals and 21 points in 14 games in his 2nd playoff run. I get that it 'could' happen but man they haven't won a single game in the 2nd round yet. That's just unfathomably and uniquely disappointing.
Oh I agree. Just meant a lot of people expected immediate Penguins Blackhawks type success and that’s rare

We were talking about enjoying a series. Guessing you enjoyed losing to Columbus, Montreal and soon Florida more.
nope I didn't enjoy any of the series we lost they all f***ing sucked. Under Babcock we got our shit pushed in by Boston too I f***ing hated that when we could've won that series

To be fair, I thought he was horseshit too, it’s just relatively less pungent but still burns the eyes.
He was actually out there hitting, not retaliating and also set up matthews in the slot. He played with way more maturity than Matthews, Marner and probably nylander tonight.

You cannot have 3 x 11mil forwards.

Can't do it.
If they actually played anywhere near 11mil maybe. Buuttt they haven't been anywhere near that.

Obviously hindsight, but I wish we jumped on him instead

Marner + sandin might’ve gotten it done as a base
Not sure he would have signed in Toronto though. I think he always wanted to go down south.

Nah he was garbage dude. Less garbage but hardly impactful. I’m not going to praise a guy for not doing anything stupid either. Big whoop.

I think it says a lot that this was their worst game of the series by far. They had a chance to get back into the series after a fairly close first two games that could have easily gone the other way, and rather than come in and leave it all on the line chose to just phone it in. It's actually incredible to me that professional athletes on the verge of their season ending put in such a timid performance that gave them virtually no shot at winning tonight, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it from any other team

Well he demanded a trade out of Calgary. Was it confirmed he wanted to go to just Florida? Maybe he did. I live in Calgary and love the city, but if he wanted to go to Florida and earn 9.5mil a year, I cannot really blame him haha.

You literally cannot sign him to an extension until July 1st, which is also when his NMC goes into effect.

He's not a UFA this season, he still has over a year left. You can only sign an extension when a player has a year left, which is July 1st.

Bottom line, the mistakes they're making, they've done all year. The lack of drive & determination from top paid players is disheartening. The new gm & coach are going to have a lot of work to do to remake this team.

I want the sweep, cause if they win a couple and lose in 6 it's better for optics. If you're gonna lose, lose big and have it be the catalyst for change.
Naw man, I could never accept conceding. You push it to the limit every game left now and if it goes to 7 we have a chance to make history. No hockey player worth their stones wants to get swept and especially not by the 8th seed. I'd bet the room goes balls to the wall for game 4.

No way Marner and Matthews want to be sniffling at the media podium again after a 4 game sweep to a team with half the talent. FK that

For sure, but it's not crazy at this point to think we're more of the Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau types. We need to shake things up somehow, I don't feel right going on with this core any longer.

That's a rough one to lose. Needed that.
Hope Samsonov is okay. Sucks, because he looked to be off to a good start in the game, and I feel like he would have had that OT goal.
Gigantic hill to climb now.
Honestly respect you’re even posting tonight.

Tavares is untradeable. Contract is horrid, even retaining 25% probably doesn't get it done.

Marner does need to go, should get us a decent return.

Need players that play hard, not cute.
He's untradable first because some idiot of a GM (I won't mention Dubas' name) gave him an NMC.

He's untradable second because even at 50% retained he isn't worth it now.

Because very few players are worth that amount so not many play up to that level.

Dubas thinking he has 3 players who actually play up to that level is a joke.
