Hindsight is 50/50.

No way we know that for sure.

Not for sure, just very likely. Tavares has an impact of MM and AM. He changes the matchups. Toronto had two OT games losses. Looks pretty likely to me that having Tavares in the lineup would have gotten them over the hump.

Not to try to sound too positive, but losing one of your top three players in game one was devastating. If Tavares is healthy, you have to figure he would have had some crucial plays to win this. I think it is difficult to say the team was a total failure when the full team wasn't playing.

Pretty likely, yes. But that's obvious isn't it? If Hyman didn't get kneed by Edler and continued his excellent form he could have made a difference. If Foligno didn't suffer an LBI he could have contributed something - anything - other than his ridiculous fight against Perry in G1. Yet here we are.

Not even mad, expected it to be like this. The grit fans said thats why you need those players for moments like this game, so where was it? A first for a gritty plug in Foligno? Great move. While can't win with skilled player Hall is doing great for Boston who funny enough focused on skill. Hopefully Dubas gets another chancd to build this team his way, and not the way some folks wanted.

Umm yeah maybe don't build a team with plugs who can't play.

With that being said, a core player needs to go and thats magic money Mitch. Disaster series for passer expert. Knowing this franchise, they will trade Nylander because he actually showed up.

Yup, they tend to trade the only players who who up for the playoffs like Kadri and Kapanen.

Kadri didn't really okay in playoffs and Kap was traded after an awful showing
Except both players have actually shown they can match playoff intensity. That's what's lacking on this team. They play each game like it's still preseason.

I can understand players who don't score, but can't understand players who don't show up and wilt.

You would have won if Tavares was playing. You can't ignore that fact.

You can’t ignore that they should have stomped Montreal without Tavares. He’s a no show in the playoffs anyway, so not sure how much of a difference it would have made. When your top 2 players combine for 1 goal in 7 games, you won’t win.

Shanahan’s a complete mystery, how a player of his ilk has let the team be built that resembles nothing like what I’d imagine a Shanahan team to be is beyond me? Wonder if he still has the stones to have a beer at the Blue Goose?

Do your homework on him ... his character on the ice does not reflect off the ice .

They already have Kessel, who had back to back Cups and was so fantastic they named a line after him in Pittsburgh, the only thing that could top that is the NY Islanders with Lou Lam.

This was the easiest first round you are going to get.
Next year we will Likely meet Tampa/Boston/Florida/Islanders first round and, well, you know.

I will not cheer for this team until changes are made - I dislike the group from top to bottom ... Just the way it is .
Fans deserve change!

Hall (and Reilly for that matter) has been successful in Boston because he was put into a great situation on a team that has winners. Hall would have been a no-show here playing with a bunch of gutless players who failed to show up for 3 close out games this year 1 last year, 2 in 2019 and 1 in 2018.

He signed Barzal for 7 while Marner is getting 11. He didn't trade a 1st and two 4th for 4 regular season assists. He's didn't hire Keefe.

his contract is only 3 years though and will mostly like get a raise? And no one could have predicted a flat cap due to a global god damn pandemic.

Does Marners contract suck, yes...however there are some circumstances that make it worse that no one could have predicated....

I was just thinking Kerfoot was pretty damn good. If Tavares takes away his ice-time, I'm not sure that would have been a positive.

I never wanted Hall. At least he wasn't injured though.

Please tell me this is sarcasm. Fabulous adjustments he made this year, Simmonds was a physical force, Jumbo provided veteran leadership and was clutch on the pp, no key f***ups and keep him rollin. Foligno and Nash, Hutton... all exceptional additions to get us over the hump. Not to be negative, but cmon, man.
The funny thing is, the people belly aching today about these deals are the same people who would have called for his head if there was no activity at the deadline. These were strategic risks, based on facts and analytics that suggested this team was going be be in for a long Stanley Cup run. The players acquired were depth moves, and were not acquired to get out of the first round. The players on the roster prior to the deadline was more than enough to get by any team in the north. Unfortunately we were let down by those very players. Spending money at the top is only problematic if you cannot round out the remaining roster. Given the fact that we saw Muzzin, JT, Foligno out at points in the series and we still were able to ice a far superior NHL roster than our opponent would suggest cap management was not the issue. Not to mention we had very good production down the lineup and the fact that we couldn't get Galchenyuk or Dermott into the series until an injury occurred. I can understand how people are hurt by this, but this series falls on the players. Mitch and Auston especially. Fairly or not, these 2 don't get paid 11 million dollars to be checkmated by Phillip Danault. It's an unfortunate outcome to lose a 7 game series when you are the better team in 5 of the 7 games, but that's life. This just goes to show how thin the margin of error in the playoffs. Something that this core should not have had to learn AGAIN from.

Changes will be had. I am not sure who will be gone, and there is a realistic possibility that Mitch and Auston are both back next year. All I know is that I'd be listening to offers on any and all of our players. But fair market value if not a premium will need to be tabled to acquire either one of them. Both players are NHL superstars, lets not forget this. Excited to see how Kyle works this team in the offseason. I've got confidence in him

Looked great the first couple of years and then BAM,history repeats itself when the plan is dumped along with Lou and a new inexpeienced Dubas takes over where a solid vet GM was needed to keep the ship in the right direction.
Dubas blows all the cash away, has only 1 plan to draft, rushes the rebuild adding too quick and too expensive leaving big holes that cannot be filled and to make things worse an inexperienced team that does not know how to play and win in playoffs gets a coach with zero NHL experience,a huge blunder.

Well said.

2 of the people laughing don't have NHL jobs.... and 1 has a HOF coach who has made a diamond out of a pile of shit. not sure I'd say anyone is laughing, but I'm confident we can add you to the list of who's crying

I am not crying but angry this team is run by amateurs.
