Still sucks the morning after....

It's a weird one, feels like we should still be playing but clearly the team didn't get the memo.

Before Game 5 I posted a list of Leafs players from 2004 (the last time we got past the 1st round) with the 'assumption' that this team was about ready to punch their ticket into the 2nd round. I've since come to realize that this team couldn't even hold a candle to the 2004 team - that one was loaded with passion and I recall them being a lot more likeable.

I will be watching very carefully to see how great Price is against the Jets. The good thing for me is I'm a hockey fan before I'm a Leafs fan. I will continue to enjoy these playoffs.

The Habs won't have a chance given how tight the schedule is going to be.

And the Avs are going to destroy the Jets the next round.

Fun.

Absolutely should be gearing up for a game tomorrow. I said to a friend after Game 4 last week...they just need to win ONE of the next three. That is manageable, right? You like those odds, right? Especially after thoroughly beating them in Game 4. And then this happens. Really unfathomable. Really pathetic.

I want to know how we can blame Frederik Andersen for this loss too. You know, our goalie that carried us for several regular seasons and was the sole reason we could not win a playoff series according to this board. Please help explain how its his fault guys.

and exactly where has That got us God you Kyle lovers will write anything his antics might’ve worked in Junior hockey obviously they don’t work here he’s a Push over And is in love with his players Half assed jobs just don’t work
Well, hopefully itll get us somewhere in a few years. Fact is, Dubas assembled a team that SHOULD have won a few rounds. We were confident going into the playoffs and knew this was our best chance yet to win the cup. Players CHOKED. Do not let them (especially Marner and Matthews) off the hook!!!

Pretty much. Up 3-1 with the other team scoring FOUR goals in FOUR games and they can't win. It's on the players.

We would’ve lost with Andersen in net too. At least we didn’t have any of his usual 5-6 goal games. This core is the problem, I blame them over the management/coaching. They are the one constant through the past 4 years. We need a shakeup.

Absolutely inexcusable what happened this series, ZERO excuses. When we were up 3-1, I thought the most Leafs thing would be for them to blow this, and once again they find another way to disappoint us all. I am not a big Dubas guy, but I honestly thought he did a great job addressing our needs last offseason. Now the big contracts he handed out is a different story. He better not come out and defend the players again this year.

Our star players are just mentally weak, they just don't have the "it" factor, or elevated play that is needed to make it far in the playoffs. Sometimes I forget Marner and Matthews are only in their early 20s and still haven't hit their prime years yet, but when you're getting paid like one of the top players in the league, you have to show up and they didn't. Guys like Point and Rantanen who are better than Marner, are making less yet still producing at a high level in these playoffs. Then we have Matthews, leading goal scorer getting shut down by Philip friken Danault. Changed the coach, changed the defense, changed the goalie, added more vets with experience...same result. Just an embarrassing effort from these guys.

And until Dubas is moved we are stuck in this time loop.

Dubas can’t trade the core. It would be admitting failure and flawed build.

You can move Barrie or Kadri but he absolutely cannot move what he bet his job on and went to the wall for.

Half the cap spent on 4 forwards who as a sum of the parts aren’t playoff friendly.

Lou Lamoriello took 3 seasons to turn this franchise from a laughing stock to one of respectability with a seemingly bright future. Kyle Dubas has taken 3 seasons turn them right back into the league's biggest laughing stock.

And to throw a cherry on top, I see that sad sack Islanders organization won their 2nd round game in Boston last night. What is that, 4 series wins since Lou took over? Oh but Auston wasn't allowed to grow his high school mustache.

Clean house........start with Shanahan

this is the real scary part, Montreal probably does not make the playoffs in a normal season. Imagine how bad they would have looked against a good team.

The paced at 86 points over a full season (playing Van 9 times and Ott 10 instead of 5)
You're damn right they would not have made the playoffs

I so badly want to see Kadri get a ring this season.

I was watching that Boston and Islanders game last night and was thinking this is what playoff hockey is supposed to be.

Intense, back and forth, full of heart ... this and the Columbus series was opposite of that. We now have a big sample size of this team in the playoffs and its not good. Serious, serious problems with the players / how they play.

Dubas/Shanny are in a black hole right now and not sure if there is a plan to get out other than trading major pieces. You cant go into next season with the same core, heck, I dont think Shanny/Dubas want to. I'd be super pissed.

Yet people will come up with excuses like the fan 590 said you can’t just sweep this one under the carpet inexcusable there has to be some pride when you put on the jersey Time to be accountable boys

You could have just ended it right there, why did the Leafs ever pushed Lou out for this guy.
Some people think the grass is greener on the other side not this time what do you do with this team Sitting idle and doing nothing and trying to blame it all on the fringe players just doesn’t work no more

If you are a glass-half-empty person then you see this failure as inevitable. If you're optimistic it will be because we had a very strong regular season and didn't have the depth, combined with our top players going cold, to win a series.

I do believe it really, really hurt us
1) Losing JT to injury 10 minutes into game 1
2) Losing Hyman to knee injury 2-weeks before playoffs (he was not the same when returning
3) Foligno's lower body injury - he looked terrible throughout the last few games of the season and all of the postseason
4) Losing Muzzin (again) for game 6 & 7

If Marner and Mathews aren't stepping up, given the above, we aren't winning.

Looks like I made the correct choice of not watching a minute of the game or the highlights. Sure I was disappointed but it was expected from these losers.

I see many still upset and ranting and I sure hope it helps and you get it all out of your systems.

I have been watching since the 60's and long ago stopped bleeding blue and white and accepted reality.
Once I put the rose coloured glasses away it was never that bad,a head in the hands, yell out you bums, and well onto to the draft.

The signs of failure over the years were always there if you were paying attention so the letdowns got less and less bothersome.
Fellow Leaf fans just need to take a step back and not jump with both feet in because of a winning streak or star player and instead actually wait for them to prove themselves instead of just saying they will be good.

For years I have said you guys talk the talk but always fail to walk the walk and that is still happening and the signs were there to not get too excited.

Remember the Shanaplan,be patient, build slowly and surely, over ripen players rather than rush them and be smart with the cap.

Looked great the first couple of years and then BAM,history repeats itself when the plan is dumped along with Lou and a new inexpeienced Dubas takes over where a solid vet GM was needed to keep the ship in the right direction.
Dubas blows all the cash away, has only 1 plan to draft, rushes the rebuild adding too quick and too expensive leaving big holes that cannot be filled and to make things worse an inexperienced team that does not know how to play and win in playoffs gets a coach with zero NHL experience,a huge blunder.

So just like the past our beloved Leafs make a good plan and then blow it up and go for the faster rise up and instead make it worse and we fans get no results just hype and headaches.

Been there, done that too many times to let it get to me anymore and fellow Leaf fans I hope you that are all upset and super pissed will learn to sit back and learn to say, yeah yeah yeah, talk is cheap and when you show me something real maybe then I will get excited and real does not begin until you have won at least 2 rounds in the playoffs.

So for now still some ex Leafs playing so time to move on cheer for them.
