You have to keep in mind whenever we play them they're bringing their A++ game. They do a lot worse on a normal Senators night.

Yes, it would be nice if they would start putting their foot on the throat of these inferior teams, that game tonite was there for the taking after McManns goal, they would have folded with some determined pressure instead they scramble along the boards and trying to hit pinpoint cross ice passes board to board. Jesus they had Hamonic Kleven and some guy named Mantinpalo out their half the night and let them be comfortable as hell

Matthews and intensity don't belong in the same sentence. He should stick to golf. I suspect he's getting pretty good at it by now anyway.

Just an aside, but Kleven's worked out decently well for Ottawa. We need Niemela and Hirvonen to do something one of these days.

Overall a lacklustre effort and Sens did their job clutching, grabbing and clogging up the front of the net. Leafs have to be stronger and fight through that garbage because refs sure won't do anything.

That's what I'm starting to believe, it's gone 5 steps beyond ridiculous at this point. Even on a night when the team captain is the guy playing with the lowest intensity, they're still together every shift.

This game was easy to predict, usually the same result against the Sens.
I will reiterate, do not waste assets to get more scrubs that won't make a difference.
Imagine the insanity that some are spewing "we need to get our big guns help" . Isn't that an oxymoron? If our top players are so good (salary dictates they are) they should be able to carry the team on their abilities alone. Berube is not a great coach and totally wrong for this type of team. A more cerebral coach with strategy and systems was what this team needed. We've had Babs, Keefe and Berube.....one worse than the other and similar in style. We are getting slower and older. We can afford to open it up and let the horses run, especially with the better defense and goaltending that we have added. This team is just so boring most nights.

We need to open up one of the Top 6 spots on the blueline for a major skating and talent upgrade. Think someone like Bowen Byram could breathe life into the transition game. We have a good meat and potatoes foundation, good structure, but need to ignite it with some untapped, high end potential.

I don't really want to add a rental at the deadline either. If we make a deal costing futures it's got to look like the McCabe deal where we benefit for a few years, and it's a major addition to the outer core at least.
