Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 2-1

Really think Willie is most effective if he plays with North South players instead of someone like JT.

Don’t mind the loss today bc it is a tight tight game. Any time you make a team like Avs played the way they did tonight is a win in my book.

Mathews is not dominating he is playing better.
If that is what we get in the playoffs we are going now where sorry.

I get Keefe wanting to experiment with different forward combo's and 11F + 7D makes that easier in game. It also serves 2 fold as it gets our long list of NHL defensemen ice time. Like I said last game, I am so apathetic at the moment. Wins and losses really don't matter much at this point. We are securely in the playoffs and looking good for that second seed, which I'll be honest I don't think home ice is going to give us any advantage or disadvantage against the bolts. Our biggest hurdle will always be ourselves.

It's hard to give a f*** about the outcome of the game when we lose the game with the announcement of the lineup card. I basically count 7D+11F games as losses before puckdrop, if they somehow manage to pull out. a dub I am just pleasantly surprised.

Defensive depth is never a bad thing - but wouldn’t you want guys rested for the postseason? Wouldn’t you want some guys fresh?

12-6 gives a few more minutes to the forwards and some time off on the D.
 
Didnt watch it.. but reading some of this is frustrating

Marner at 29?.. yeah now add about 10 more hits taken and whatever little sneaky plays get in there.. he will get hurt.. this is sooooo dumb.. its just dumb

Can anyone tell me if Gus plays in the playoffs without injuries? No he doesn't so why in the f*** is he not playing every third or fourth game

Yeah he had some great looks too like the backhand on the 2 on 1 earlier in the game but he was just out of sync and kind of careless like he needed a software update or something. Totally bizarre.

I don’t think they play Gustafsson enough to get the consistent transition game out of him.

This coaching staff is just always overthinking things.
 
We keep hearing how good our prospect pool is

How about we play one or two of them at FW instead of running our best players into the ground

The lineups have to be coming from the GM down there's no way Keefe is this stupid

I really think and hope Keefe and Dubas is just giving a taste of how many mins can the top guys play in a tight game.
Or else, I just don't see any reasons to justify playing the top guys past 24mins.

Sammy was the only Leaf who deserved a win.

Willy was second in shots, and set up JT a couple of times, but yes, a couple of dumb plays - who flips the pucks in deep and expects Tavares to get there first? In his defence, he's the only one who actually managed a shot in the shootout.

But we have to do something about Tavares. When was the last time he won a faceoff on the PP (0-3 tonight)? Keefe should tell him to just stand in front of the net on the PP, and don't try to handle the puck - every time he does, he seems to lose it.

I don't think anyone should be surprised that we don't seem to be organized, when every other shift we have different linemates and partners.

Exactly. No point in playing chess when the game is checkers. Keep it simple sometimes is best.

Put Tavares with Marner Or make a 2nd line based on Nylander, put Tavares on a 3rd line. Spread out the 30min for Matthews and Marner on those lines. Most icetime for the best line for the day.

I think Keefe is more of a risk then our D or goalies to sabotaging our postseason.

Too much playing around and unwilling to just roll consistent lines and pairings.

Not sure if I should be happy that the Leafs played a shutdown playoff style game or if I should be upset that their shutdown playoff style game shut them down too?

Super boring structured game. I've been begging for more structure but dang can we get structure and a little more scoring?
