Its just frustrations than overreaction
Most of us waited a long time again to watch hockey
A lot of our players were total no shows. Nylander, Domi, Tavares, Robertson
That’s the sad part. What we watched last night was no different then we have seen in the past and all the same excuses trotted out, got goalied, better team lost etc etc

This team keeps getting worse every season now.

Berube is a garbage coach, his systems will not work with this team.

It's the same old song

A tiny bit of pressure from the opponent and our highly paid offense looks clueless.

They are not superstars. They really are not. They are only elite in their bank accounts.

We really should have started a rebuild. A new core, means new hope. This core is just despair, no matter who you have skating around them or in the bench.

This team/org/franchise has such an identity crisis. They bring in Babcock and Lou who are both super old school. Then they say we dont like that, and went to the extreme the other way with Dubas and Keefe. Now after 5 years of that, they are swinging right back to where they were before with Tre and Berube. Like pick a lane. Year 9 with this core and they still don't know whats best for them or what their identity is.

We are losers. For now. Montreal wins their home opener, they look pretty good doing it credit where credit is due.

Stolarz was our star. Everyone else was average. Marner wiffed, fanned, choked all night. If Patches can’t elevate his game amongst the boos of his former fans, it doesn’t bode well for his effort against other teams.

How many games will we win or lose 1-0 or 2-1 this season.

Can’t let Keefe and the Devils to beat us (fully expecting them to)

People saying they liked what they saw must be high on crack.

That was f***ing garbage top to bottom aside from Stolarz who was outstanding. Just the PP alone was pukeworthy.
Stolarz and Lorentz looked good. Sadly, Lorentz might be the fastest guy on the team.

To be fair, most usually stop scoring after hitting 69. It takes a while to recover, lol.

That’s pretty much the diff between Panthers Vs Bruins and us tonight. Panthers players just kept crashing the net even when up 4-1
Same with the Bruins. They didn’t quit.

That emotional ovation for laine was something straight out of Rudy. The guy isn't dying. He isn't even getting surgery. But the purple grimace looking MF is getting consoled. So much emotion or of the gate

Habs fan here, I thought your forecheck was the best it's looked since I don't know when.
The fourth line forechecked really well, but the team is too slow and could struggle against the top teams.
Fortunately, The East is weak enough that they should still make the playoffs

It was your typical leaf game. Outplay the opponent but cant score.

Im not a big fan of how the lines were set. I hope Knies takes the next step as we need him.
Domi on Taveres and Willy line wont work. It just wont. Domi isnt a top 6 unless he is playing with Mathews. Our 3rd line was ok.
We are old and slow it seems.

First game , Lets see how we respond tonight. The first 20 games or so will tell us alot about our coaching staff. So far I dont like our PK and our PP still sucks. Special teams wins you games....thats how the NHL likes it.

The notion that I agree most with is that this looked exactly like one of our playoff games. We looked okay, had lots of the puck and pressured well, and our D+G were all quite solid, but at the same time we generated very few scoring chances. 47 shots? We had hardly any real scoring chances, much less high danger ones. We got unlucky with hitting the post a bunch, but those were more moments of quality from our shooters, rather than any sort of actual teamplay to work the puck into a high danger area. With a few bounces we win that game, but I think it's fair to be quite unimpressed at our complete inability to get the puck to the scoring areas against what is expected to be a bottom-feeder team. Did we complete one cross-seam pass in the offensive zone all game? Did we even have guys finding open space in the slot?

Then of course throw in the fact that it was the first game of Matthews and Berube's tenures, and it's certainly the same ol' Leafs schtick. We'll make the playoffs just fine, but these are still the Leafs.

There will some positives and negatives last night but this is an odd take: "Typical"? They were the 2nd highest scoring team in the league last year.

Scoring goals - at least in the regular season - has never been this group's problem.

The leafs had plenty of games the past years where they outplayed the opponent and couldnt score and lost the game. It has nothing to do with scoring goals all year. We seemed to get goalied alot and you can tell from just the first period that it will be one of those nights

you ever heard of the matty effect your playing with the best center on your team and the best left winger on your team against an ahl team are you being serious?

expected goal
Marner +1,5
Matthews +1,35
Knies +1,24
Domi + 0,64
Nylander + 0,36
Tavares + 0,26

no the fact Marner played with matthews didn't explain the fact why Marner had 4X Nylander expected goal number, why he had been 2nd team high behind McCabe and why Domi ( Nylander teammate) got basically 2X Nylander number. Both Jt and nylander been terrible and using Nylander with matthews and knies the way he played would just broke this line.
