Yup. And the PK was pretty good tbh. At least as a starting point.

Shooting from the top of the circle summed it up. Sure we had 47 shots so everyone is happy but there really wasn’t anyone in the crease hacking and banging or 2nd/3rd intense effort. A lot was shoot, come around, shoot again. All giving the goalie time to set.OEL's breakaway was one of the funniest things he's done
Honestly, this is a winning brand of hockey. Haven't felt this good after a loss in a while. Sometimes as fans we get fixated on the end result, and understandably so, but if you play that way 82 games straight you will win more than you will lose. Plain and simple.
No need to go back to the drawing board. More of the same
Ya as much as I love advanced analytics, there are some obvious flaws to the collection of the data points. One key failure to this system is that all HDCF are weighted the same. Ie. a breakaway with the puck on Auston Mathews tape is weighted the same as a slot chance for David Kampf. I don't need to explain which of the 2 are more threatening to our opponents. But nonetheless, those chances are calculated in our overall xGF equally, which in reality is not the case.It would be interesting to have someone go back and breakdown the gametape and see what happened because if you go by what the advanced stats sites say, it shows that we actually had alot of high danger chances in this game.
23 high danger chances for according to naturalstattrick and this is where last night's game would rank in HDCF compared to every game last season. Only three times last year in total we put up more high danger scoring chances than last night.
I am always skeptical around some of these stats and not every high danger chance created is equal, so I hear what you're saying when you raise doubt.

They won't run into goaltending every night like they did last night.
I've seen good teams lose to bad teams, it's happens but to be as predictable as this team is against bad teams, I can't figure out why. Maybe its our-bug-aboo. Maybe bad teams think that the Leafs, while considered one of the elites, are really not that elite and maybe that motivates them to play us harder? I dunno TBH.
Dont know how atlets do things , but most Dads nowday help with the kid during some nights (if they are of any use, wich they might not be). Sleep might be affected.
Read in a study that as little as 30min less sleep or in the wrong time of the day makes a difference in reaction etc. Up to 13% less if it is a our or more.
So a NHL player wiith any sleeping problem got a lot agains them.
If he gave birth he would not be back this season...![]()
The explanation I heard a lot is that most opponents have plenty of players who grew up in Ontario, so they see playing the Leafs as special. Most of their friends and family watch the games with more interest too. And in other parts of Canada people tend to get annoyed at the amount of attention the Leafs get in the Media.
The 4th line did some of thatShooting from the top of the circle summed it up. Sure we had 47 shots so everyone is happy but there really wasn’t anyone in the crease hacking and banging or 2nd/3rd intense effort. A lot was shoot, come around, shoot again. All giving the goalie time to set.
Brad Treliving press conference: We have to stop making the goalies the number 1 star.
Start the season, make the goalie the number 1 star.
The takes here don’t shock me, but this is what people should be saying today.
You can already see the signs of how we’re going to change. Give this team some time to adapt and I think we are going to really like how we play.

Yup,
It was never going to be a smooth transition. Especially for our skill guys.
I see a lot of commentary about the Defense taking too many weak shots from distance on twitter. But to me that was one of the more encouraging things I saw all night TBH. Pucks towards net, crash the net, knuckle dragging, lunch pale hockey. This is how goals are scored in April-June. We failed to take away Monty's eyes on those shots which did limit our high danger second chances on rebounds. But that sort of stuff will come with time when more of our top end players start buying in and go towards the dirty areas of the ice.
Of course you still need to allow our big dogs to be creative, but in order for us to find that balance we first need to overcorrect our most obvious flaws from the past. Being too cute
I don't care if we lose 5 straight to start the season if we continue to play like that, The wins will start stacking up.
It's a far more consistent brand of hockey
like you said, give this style of play some time and we are going to fall in love with the product.
"Not direct enough. A little outside for me, you know? We didn't look to attack right away, get shots, and get pucks to the net to look for some rebounds. We were just moving it around on the outside too much. I don't want to call it 'too cute,' but we have to be more direct. That, too," said Berube on the PP.
expected goal =expected goal
Marner +1,5
Matthews +1,35
Knies +1,24
Domi + 0,64
Nylander + 0,36
Tavares + 0,26
no the fact Marner played with matthews didn't explain the fact why Marner had 4X Nylander expected goal number, why he had been 2nd team high behind McCabe and why Domi ( Nylander teammate) got basically 2X Nylander number. Both Jt and nylander been terrible and using Nylander with matthews and knies the way he played would just broke this line.
Interesting that the stats say that. I can't say that I'm particularly surprised, I think we end up with pretty good high danger chances in our playoff games too, and I really do think that most of them are "junk". Stats say we have an xGF of 4.7 at 5on5 and nearly 6 in all situations, and this is one of those cases where the stats really just do not match the play on the ice.It would be interesting to have someone go back and breakdown the gametape and see what happened because if you go by what the advanced stats sites say, it shows that we actually had alot of high danger chances in this game.

So we dominated but Stolarz was great? I will agree that Stolarz kept the leafs in the game as they could have been down 2-3 without him. Habs were the better team the first half of the game even with the 2 min offensive zone possession the leafs had....2nd half was better for the leafs. Dominated? I don't think so.Thanks, but we’re trying to be as negative as possible here.
You’re also right, we dominated everywhere.
By every measure they did. A goalie can’t be good and the team? Strange. So we dominated but Stolarz was great? If Kampf doesn’t PK, what’s the point?Yup. And the PK was pretty good tbh. At least as a starting point.
That's not how xGF works. HDCFs are not all weighted the same.Ya as much as I love advanced analytics, there are some obvious flaws to the collection of the data points. He doesn't do much with the additional size, is slower and makes some pretty amateur mistakes in his own zone from a lack of experience. One Meh! for another Meh! Timmins drives play and is a bigger dman ,on a Tree and Berube team, that is the tie breaker.
