GDT: Leafs @ Islanders 1/11/24 7PM

Disagree with mcmann but I agree with gregor he should be a 13th forward for a bit so we actually know what we have in Robertson but for sure no way should we just be sitting Robertson send him to ahl if that’s the case

To be honest, I normally skip posts on Robertson here because Leaf fans annoy me with their constant criticism of the kid which I don't believe is deserved. Kid makes min money. Virtually hasn't played in 3 years. Has the heart of a lion. Doesn't get a lot of time on the ice even when he dresses. Hardly any PP time.

Yet, he is on pace for 20 goals and 40 points.

The exact secondary scoring this team needs when the big guys go dry. Yet so many posters continue to rip him every time he has a quiet game, yet so many Leafs get free passes for nights off. I don't get it. The kid can play in this league.

This exactly

Man plays under 11 minutes and is essentially a .5 ppg player. He plays basically 0 pp time, unless we are spanking a team.

From an offensive standpoint, Robertson and knies aren’t very far apart, both in raw production and when you factor in linemates and opportunities, I’ve been just as impressed with Robertson as I have with knies, both have quiet slumps of not much happening, but also have stretches of good contributing hockey, and that is what should be expected from rookies, Robertson has barely played so I’ll still classify him as one. He’s meeting all expectations given his opportunity imo.

If we grab Boone Jenner I’ll drop Robertson’s bags off at the airport with him lol. But I doubt they shop their captain, and if they do Robertson would be one of a few pieces

Dman wise, boqvist peeke bean are the only ones I’d even touch and tbh none move the needle too much, we need a bonafide top 4rhd and maybe a second pairing LHD too, I’d like to run:
Rielly - Brodie
X - Liljegren
McCabe-Benoit
Gio

I’d love to replace Brodie now, but I doubt that happens but if not now then next year we need to replace him as he’s fallen off the last 2 years.

Robertson sits, then returns and scores. Does Keefe need him to score 3 goals to not sit?
Let this boy play, let him help us win. If by 70 games he is not the ģuy we need, pass on him, but not now?
Samsanov can cost us 10 games and comes back.

These days I call it IBS Arena thanks to Lane Lambert.

I have a quarter season plan there, I'll be in attendance tonight. Haven't seen the Leafs in a year or so in person but I always appreciate watching elite talents of hockey. Excited to see Matthews and this guy William Nylander who I hear is pretty decent at hockey these days.

Jenner serves them no purpose at this point. They are better off getting some quality assets.
They can easily use Werenski as their next captain
 
I’m expecting a total victory tonight. It’s seems they have mastered beat the bottom feeders so onward and upward

Agreed. I'm not sure the Leafs can get 7, but I think they will score a lot of goals against a pretty banged-up Islanders' team. Given up 5 in each of their last two games.
