Muzzin needs to wake up

He needs to be at least a top 4 d for two more years. By then Liljegren/Sandin will surpass him, but we still need him for a shutdown pairing and mentoring Liljegren

What the hell happened to keefes strategy? When he first took over the leafs made it a point to never dump the puck in, electing to pass it back out of the zone instead for changes. Where did this dump and chase mentality come from. It definitely doesn't come from advanced stats as the advanced stats show more offense is created on rush chances, and carrying the puck.

Glad to see the "results are the only thing that matters" crowd is starting to embrace some of the chances and possession metrics.

I thought Marner was okay. He made the right hockey plays.

That shift at the end of the period, he started it by dumping it in and going after it. Him and Tavares actually won the puck battle and it was like 2 minutes inside the offensive zone.

He was too tired to get off a good shot, beside Freddy already knows all his tricks.

He is still on a line with one of Tavares or Matthews, and they are often open.

The main time he is alone is when his linemates are changing, and usually his solution for that is trying to deke through 3 guys.
 
Pretty good road period to start.

Lines dont look very in sync yet but it was fairly even 5v5 which is nice (against the Canes who are always trouble 5v5 against the Leafs)

Kerfoot the only player I was really facepalming the whole time.
 
In a 7 game series, Canes will kill us
They'll just out work us and out skate us

Other than Matthews goal, I hardly noticed him in that period. Yes there was final 30 second shift more because Canes were gassed

Tavares, is he even playing?

I think we're seeing early warning signs that the core may have given up on another coach.
