He is still on a line with one of Tavares or Matthews, and they are often open.

The main time he is alone is when his linemates are changing, and usually his solution for that is trying to deke through 3 guys.

Matthews and Marner does not mesh well.

Matthews is much better with Nylander.

Babcock was right not playing Matthews and Marner together, other than the power play.

Matthews always heads to the center of the slot or thereabouts. Marner will be along the sides or near the boards most of the time. Cover one guy here, cover the other guy there, and that is it. That is why they do not create much together, and they won't, not together that is.

Their tendencies in the offensive zone is kind of obvious.

Go Leafs Go!
Watched some Squid Games, now on to the real deal.
Leafs will come out stronger 2nd period as the jitters subside.

Lucky to be up but Leafs do look way better than the last 2 games, definitely a step in the right direction.

Canes are a really tough opponent that they're managing okay. I think they'll bring it to them this period & go toe to toe with them.

Really impossible to score without chances. Possession and its value are just a bit more complicated.

I am all for looking at the bigger picture, hockey is such a random game, just looking at the score doesn't normally tell you how the game went.

But all we hear is how results are the only thing that matter from a certain group, and they all seem to be talking about chances right now, it is really funny how that works.

I like this playing substandard and having the lead a whole lot better then skating the other team into the ice and being behind. I guess this is kinda how being an American team must feel

If ya know what I mean

Scoring chances is not an advanced stat. Even my video games as a kid tracks it in the game summary.

Yes they show these numbers during games but outside of that I don't know that they are available to the public.

Problem is, you can do the same thing with Tavares. He is always in the middle of the ice. Marner always looks pass, and teams have figured that out. Tavares can make space for himself and has great hands. If you get it to him, he can get a great chance.

Which is why Marner needs to improve his shot. He is a better playmaker than Nylander, but because Nylander can shoot, teams can't just expect pass every time. With Marner, you can bet on pass and you will rarely, if ever, get burned by his shot. Nor his speed, because Marner is not fast either. You will get burned by his passes, but if you can at least prevent clean passes, then your chances are much better.

Had two guys ready to crash the net too...not even a low shot for a rebound.

Exactly. It's a muffin into the goalies glove. Just looks to be half assing it still. It's all mental with that guy. I think he'll figure it out sooner than later but man it's frustrating to watch.

Giving you props man, you are a real optimist.

Hope you will be proven right.

We are being beaten to pucks and when we do get there first there's too much hesitation and/or stickhandling when a one touch pass or a one touch tip to get the puck out of our zone is what's called for...Puck possession is fine but you have to know when to do it and when to move the puck quicker out of your own zone.

There count is way off

And yours is spot on?

Natural Stat Trick says 4 giveaways too. 3 takeaways instead of 4. Are they way off too?

Carolina has 2 giveaways and 4 takeaways on NST. Same as NHL.

It's a subjective measure for sure, but it seems like two sources are saying the same thing, and it is much different than yours.

And I will add in my eye test is a lot closer to NHL/NST than whatever you are saying...

So I am going to say that you are far more likely to be wrong.
